Purpose I am shopping around for a laptop, printer, and software for the primary purpose of using it for school work and, secondary, entertainment. My goal is to find a laptop that is properly suited for online research, typing (writing software), playing games, and streaming/downloading movies, videos, and music. Therefore, I will need a laptop that has lots of space/memory, can multi-task without lagging, a good video/audio card and speakers, and a fast processor with good amount of RAM. I will therefore be comparing the 3 laptops mainly in those areas. I will also need a printer to print the research papers I type up and other school work such as articles for researching. I found 3 laptops that I will compare in order to determine which of the 3 best suits my needs. All 3 are sold by BestBuy. The first laptop is a Dell Inspiron, which costs $549.99. It has an Intel Dual Core processor with a speed of 3 GHz. It has a 6 GB RAM memory and 4 MB of cache memory. Therefore, these specs show that this laptop is good enough to run multiple (but not too many) programs simultaneously without lagging and perform fast. Furthermore, it has a hard drive disk space of 1 TB, which is sufficient to run the Windows 10 operating system, the software I am interested in (which will be discussed later in the “Software” section), and any word, spreadsheet, or presentation documents I will need to save to the hard drive. Additionally, it will suffice for any videos, movies, or music I will download. It also has an HD graphics card with a MaxxAudio sound card and speakers which “delivers unparalleled audio performance, with sound that is louder, clearer, fuller and more intelligible.” It also has a DVDRW optical drive, which will allow me to use it for several functions: copy data onto CDs/DVDs, backup and restore data, and play DVD/CD video or audio. It comes with a 6-month free trial of Kaspersky Antivirus. For warranty, it includes a 1-year warranty on parts but not on labor. The second laptop is a Toshiba Satellite, which costs $579.99. It has an Intel Dual Core processor with a speed of 2.2 GHz. It has an 8 GB RAM; however, it does not specify the amount of cache memory it contains. These specs show that this laptop can run multiple (but not too many) programs simultaneously without lagging and perform fast under such conditions. Furthermore, it has a hard drive disk space of 1 TB, which is sufficient run the Windows 10 operating system, hold several applications and programs (software), and store plenty of documents, and downloaded movies, videos, and music. However, although I’d guess that its cache memory would be at least 3 MB if not 4 MB, nonetheless, due to the lack of information regarding the cache memory doubt arises in mind regarding the processing speed of this unit. It has an HD graphics card; however, its specs do not specify the type of sound card. The speakers are built-in stereo and it contains a DVD-SuperMulti drive as its optical drive. These specs seem to suffice for me to play videos or listen to music. It comes with only a 30-day free trial of McAfee Antivirus. It comes with a1-year warranty on parts and labor. The third laptop I’m comparing is a HP Pavilion, which costs $499.99. It has an Intel Dual Core processor with a speed of 2.2 GHz. It has a 6 GB RAM memory and 3 MB of cache memory. Furthermore, it has a hard drive disk space of 1 TB. These specs show that this laptop can run multiple (but not too many) programs simultaneously without lagging and perform fast under such conditions. Additionally, it has sufficient storage to run the Windows 10 operating system, hold several applications and programs (software), and store plenty of documents, and downloaded movies, videos, and music. It has an HD graphics card and a DVD/CD optical drive. It also has integrated dual speakers and a B&O Play sound card. It comes with a 6-month free trial of Kaspersky Antivirus and a 1-year limited warranty on parts and labor.

Software There are several types of software that I will require along with the laptop. I will need writing software; after some searching I found 3 programs to choose from. The first is Microsoft Office 2013. It includes Word for typing, Excel for spreadsheets and PowerPoint for presentations. It is already a very well known and professional writing software. Almost every computer running a Windows operating system uses it. It offers a 30-day free trial; however, it is still very expensive to buy/download, costing nearly $200. Apache’s OpenOffice is another writing software. “Apache OpenOffice is an open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and more.” It is very similar to Microsoft Office in many respects, including design, layout, and appearance. Additionally, it can read and write files from other common office software packages (such as Microsoft Office, for example). It is available for download and use completely free on its website. The third writing software I found is Google Docs. “Google Docs is a free web-based application in which documents and spreadsheets and presentations can be created, edited, and stored online.” Although it is free it still requires you to have a Google account, which is also free to create and use. The files are automatically saved online and can be accessed from any computer without any use of thumb-drives. Files can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection and a full-feature web browser. This feature makes Google Docs more versatile than Microsoft Office and OpenOffice because you don’t need to worry about losing the file, the thumb-drive, or your computer crashing. However, at the same time it is also limiting because it only opens the file, on another computer, with a Google account. However, the files can be downloaded onto your computer as a hard file. This can avoid the problem of using a computer that does not have a Google account. However, it would require a writing software to open the file, OpenOffice or Microsoft Office for example. Because of its accessibility, and that it’s free, I decided to go with Google Docs. I will also require Java software. A lot of online games, i.e. Yahoo Games, require the Java software in order to access/use them. Java is free to download on their website. I will also download Adobe Flash Player. This software is pretty much what allows almost any video online to be played. Without a flash player online videos cannot be watched. An example would be YouTube, Hulu, sports websites, etc… This software, too, is free to download from their site. I will also download a multimedia player called VLC Media Player. It is a free and open-source cross platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It plays most codecs with no codec packs needed. I’ve used this software before and am a big fan of it. It’s very versatile and will play media files that other media players will/can not. It also has a great sound and very good picture. This software can be downloaded for free on their site.

Hardware The hardware I will need for my purpose is a web-cam, a printer, and a surge protector. The webcam is built-in in all 3 laptops I am comparing; therefore, I will not need to look for any. I will need a printer for printing homework, term papers I write, and online notes and research. I will need only an ink-jet printer. Laser printers are too expensive for my needs to be considered for purchase. The printer I found that fits my needs and budget is a HP Envy wireless all-in-one printer, which costs $104.99. Its functions include printing, copying, faxing, and scanning. It prints in black and white and in multicolor. It prints 14 pages per minute in black and white and 9 pages per minute in color. It can also print wirelessly. Lastly, I will need a surge protector. The purpose for which I am shopping around for a laptop is a very important one. Therefore, I would like to protect my laptop and printer from electrical surges by using a surge protector. The one I would like to purchase is a Monster Core Power 800, which costs $39.99. It contains 8 outlets and 2 USB ports. It has fire-resistant technology to minimize the risk of fires from surges and has a 1440-joule rating. It also provides $250,000 equipment guarantee if it fails to protect the equipment.

The laptop I chose is the Dell Inspiron. My reasoning is because all three computers have very similar features. However, the Dell Inspiron has slightly faster processor capability along with a slightly larger cache memory. I need a laptop that will process information quickly and run multiple programs simultaneously with minimal amount of lag. I feel that the Dell Inspiron fits that bill.

Computer Forensics Analysis Project

...Computer Forensics I (FOR 240-81A) Project #3 Case Background The Suni Munshani v. Signal Lake Venture Fund II, LP, et al suit is about email tampering, perjury, and fraud. On December 18, 2000, Suni Munshani (Plaintiff) filed a suit against Signal Lake Venture Fund. Mr. Munshani claimed that he was entitled to warrants in excess of $25 million dollars from Signal Lake. In February 2001, Signal Lake Venture Fund II, LP, et al. (Defendant) became privy to the court filings in this case. Within the filings there was an email provided by Mr. Munshani from Hemant Trivedi, CEO of one of the portfolio companies, stating he was indeed entitled to the warrants. Mr. Trivedi denied any knowledge of the email, or any such communication with Mr. Munshani. In an effort to prove their innocence, Signal Lake hired a computer forensic group to conduct a private investigation. The investigation did not show any evidence of the supposed email provided to the court by Mr. Munshani. Mr. Trivedi filed an affidavit stating that the email was forged, while Mr. Munshani filed an affidavit stating the email was real. In March 2001, a computer forensics expert, Kenneth R. Shear, was appointed by the court to perform a forensic examination on the questioned message (the message provided by Mr. Munshani) and the comparative message (a second message from Mr. Trivedi found on Mr. Munshani’s computer). Mr. Shear worked for a company called Electronic Evidence Discovery, Inc. (EED). Mr. Shear’s forensic...

...CHAPTER ONE 1.0 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Attitude as a concept is concerned with an individual way of thinking, acting and behaving. It has very serious implications for the learner, the teacher, the immediate social group with which the individual learner relates and the entire school system. Attitudes are formed as a result of some kind of learning experiences. They may also be learned simply by following the example of opinion of parent, teacher or friend., this is mimicry or imitation, which also has a part to play in the teaching and learning situation. In this respect, the learner draws from his teacher’s education to inform his own attitude which may likely affect his earning outcomes. In his observational theory, Bandura (1971) demonstrated that behavior are acquire by watching another (the model, teacher parent, monitor, friend) that performs the behavior. The model display it and the learner observes and tries to imitate it. Teachers are invariably, role models whose behaviours are easily copied by students. What teachers like or dislike, appreciate and how they feel about their learning or studies could have a significant effect on their students. Unfortunately, however, many teacher seldom realize that how they teach how they behave and how they interact with students can be more paramount than what they interact with students can be attitudes directly what they teach. In a nut shell, teachers’ attitudes directly affect students’ attitudes. Teachers attitude...

Tim and Funding

...Few memories as a failure on a major project from half a decade ago still vividly remains in memories. As a Research Assistant to Tim, it was my first paid job. Tim, an Engineer, worked in silos and had driver social style to his heart beat. He only communicated the expectations without delving in the details that he had in his mind. Even though the Office space was a closed knit space for 16 students, Tim seldom hung out with people to build personal relationships. He only interacted with others when there was a need. His lack of explanation on why the project was needed had left me wondering regarding purpose and design aspects of the new programming project. I struggled on how to effectively design the project and often sought help from other people, who recommended me that the project needed investment in new programming platform as old platform was incapable of achieving the project objectives. After making almost no progress on the project and wasting time in attempts to make old platform workable, I received a vehement email from Tim, stating that XYZ Inc. was deciding to scale back on funding, as no progress reports were submitted. I was shocked to learn that I was even expected to submit progress reports at the end of quarter on the undertaken project in which I had neither any clue nor communication. As an amiable person, I was too quick to reach an agreement with Tim on project deliverables. I had thought that I would be receiving friendly advice and guidance from...

Sharon Construction

...The following case represents a realistic situation facing construction firm that has just won a competitive contract. The realistic conditions complicating the project are described in detail, as are the alternatives offered by the staff for dealing with these complexities. Case The Sharon Construction Corporation The Sharon Construction Corporation has been awarded a contract for the construction of a 20,000-seat stadium. The construction must start by February 15 and be completed within one year. A penalty clause of $15,000 per week of delay beyond February 15 of next year is written into the contract. Jim Brown, the president of the company, called a planning meeting. In the meeting he expressed great satisfaction at obtaining the contract and revealed that the company could net as much as $300,000 on the project. He was confident that the project could be completed on time with an allowance made for the usual delays anticipated in such a large project. Bonnie Green, the director of personnel, agreed that in a normal year only slight delays might develop due to a shortage of labor. However, she reminded the president that for such a large project, the company would have to use unionized employees and that the construction industry labor agreements were to expire on November 30. Past experience indicated a fifty-fifty chance of a strike. Jim Brown agreed that a strike might cause a problem. Unfortunately, there was no way to change the contract. He inquired about...
