...Project Management Concepts and Applications Paper Business Management Research Associates (BMRA) teaches Defense Acquisition University (DAU) and Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI) certified courses and elective courses to various agencies worldwide. While BMRA is quite a small company, there is always a need for project management. I have not always been able to lead the projects; I have been a part of the project team to get the work completed, more like an assistant to the project manager. A project that falls under this scope is the one involving the DAU/FAI certification of course materials. The DAU/FAI certified courses offered by BMRA are set to expire this year on September 30, 2015. From October 1, 2015 forward, the expired courses are not valid for credit for students. DAU replaced the expired courses with new ones. The project’s primary goal is completing the certification process for all the required courses before the September 30, 2015 deadline both within time and budget for the company. The DAU/FAI certified courses are BMRA’s primary source of revenue, therefore making this project of the utmost importance. The courses affecting BMRA are listed in the chart below. Previous Course (Expired) Replacement Course (New) CON 215: Intermediate Contracting for Mission Support CON 280: Source Selection and Administration of Contracts CON 217: Cost Analysis and Negotiation Techniques CON 270: Intermediation Cost and Price Analysis CON 218: Advanced Contracting...

It will analyze the application of these management concepts to the workplace. Including specifics of how five functions are practiced in the workplace. Applying the five functions can only improve any business that is willing to accept changes. At the time it was not known that the Boutique was using the five functions. The course made it clear that the owner was utilizing the five functions and the contribution it will offer to the business when practiced during operation. MANAGEMENT PRACTICE Effective Management Practices in the Workplace A good, effective management practice to use in any workplace is the five functions: planning, leading, organizing, staffing, and controlling (Reilly, 2011). A successful workplace has to have a great staff working to help it move forward. A great leader (owner) will ensure that employees are organized, informed of the planning, leading, staffing, and controlling to reach the goals of the organization. Working in the clothing industry is tough so applying the five-functions in the workplace will work when it is applied properly. To be successful managers and owners need to know the five functions, and how to implement them into the workplace. Success will be reachable and achievable when all five functions are taken seriously and applied into the business as a team effort. ...

...Abstract—The tremendous growth in popularity of smartphones has been closely matched by increased efforts to harness their potential. This has lead to the development of powerful mobile operating systems that provide novel programming platforms for the creation of rich mobile applications. To support these new paradigms, developers are now asked to spend considerable effort in replicating functionality, usually already available in web applications, for the native applications. In this paper, we observe that web applications closely simulate the design of native applications and the web origin can act as a more reliable authentication identifier for third-party application content. We consequently argue in favor of using web applications as the default for mobile platforms and propose a practical approach to extend web applications with native applicationlike capabilities. Central to our approach is a browser-based permission model that effectively manages permissions both at install time and at runtime, and supports dynamic user policies. We discuss security and non-security challenges of realizing this approach. The rapid growth of mobile computing and increasing adoption of smartphones has resulted in the evolution of rich mobile platforms, such as Android and iOS. While these platforms derive much of the functionality from traditional desktop operating systems, they also introduce security mechanisms to satisfy the new requirements imposed by the mobile ...

...Pleinlaan 2, B-1050 Brussel, Belgium {olga.detroyer,frederic.kleinermann,bram.pellens, Wesley.Bille}@vub.ac.be Abstract This paper explores the opportunities and challenges for Conceptual Modeling in the domain of Virtual Reality (VR). VR applications are becoming more feasible due to better and faster hardware, and due to new technology and faster network connections they also start to appear on the Internet. However, the development of such applications is still a specialized, time-consuming and expensive process. By introducing a Conceptual Modeling phase into the development process of VR applications, a number of the obstacles preventing a quick spread of this type of applications can be removed. However, existing Conceptual Modeling techniques are too limited for modeling a VR application in an appropriate way. The paper will show how Conceptual Modeling can be done for VR and how this may make VR more accessible to non VR-specialists. Furthermore, the paper will explain how Conceptual Modeling embedded in a semantic framework can provide the basis for semantically rich VR application, which may be essential for its success in the future and its use in the context of the Semantic Web. The paper will also point to some open research problems.. Keywords: Semantics. Virtual Reality, Conceptual Modeling, that the development of VR applications directly starts at the implementation level. The virtual world that needs to be created must be expressed in terms of low level...

...The paper introduces the category of “architectural innovation” on the basis that seemingly minor changes to technology which may earlier be classified as an incremental innovation can have competitive consequences of a radical one. The key concept is the distinction between component knowledge and architectural knowledge. The paper argues that firms concentrate on refining components within a stable architecture established by a dominant design, and consequently, their “information-processing capabilities” are shaped by the existing architecture. While building upon component knowledge, their architectural knowledge is outmoded and made obsolete by architectural innovations. Their resulting inability to identify or understand new interactions between components has serious competitive consequences. The conceptual framework of the paper is clear and straightforward. The main argument is advanced in a logical manner, and supporting premises (such as the way organizations manage knowledge) are supported by prior literature. Within the boundaries of the paper’s assumptions, the argument is persuasive. Furthermore, the application to the photolithographic alignment (PA) equipment industry justifies the model. The trends in the industry suggest the conceptual framework is largely accurate. Nonetheless, the assumptions made limit the usefulness of the concept. Firstly, the analysis of firms’ information-processing is restricted to communication channels, information filtering...
