Strategic Plan, Part 1: Conceptualizing a Business My selected business would be a temporary staffing agency; with many companies today reluctant to hire full-time employees a staffing agency for the right industry could be very successful. My staffing agency would focus primarily on the IT (information technology) sector and providing highly skilled temporary labor to companies that do not have the need for a full-time IT employee. For this business I will create a mission statement, create a vision statement that clearly defines what I want the company to become in the future. I will also define the guiding principles of the business taking into consideration the culture, social responsibility and ethical issues that may arise. I will also analyze how the vision, mission, and values that guide the organizations strategic direction and evaluate how the company addresses customer needs.
Creating a Vision Statement
Providing superior quality employees and services which will satisfy and earn the loyalty from our customers. To sell your product or service, you need vision. A vision is a picture of the future we seek to create, described in the present tense, as if it were happening now. It shows where we want to go, and what we will be like when we get there. When you work on your vision, consider your strategic focus, your market place competitive advantage or what makes you unique and marketable, how you add value to others, what are your current competencies, and what are your deeply felt values. (Manning, 2011).
The vision statement for my staffing agency is to provide support to our customers that are in need for a professional experience in the information technology field.
We are committed to: * Respond to customer needs quickly and exceed the expectations of our customers in every facet in the information technology field. * Provide competitive pricing and superior employees and services. * Provide the highest level of continued training to our staff, to always be in the forefront of the technology field. * Developing close relationships with our customers to build a solid future for both organizations.
Guiding Principles
The guiding principles are the heart and soul of a successful staffing agency. These are the words and actions that will guide us to success on a daily basis. Teaching my staff that we want to the leader in our industry and have other staffing agencies wondering how we do it. I want other recruiters to want to come and work for my organization because we have the reputation and market share to make them successful in their line of work. According to Brad Sugars, “Defining your beliefs and guiding principles is important to running a successful business. If you don't define your beliefs, others--be it friends, associates or the marketplace--will do it for you. By taking ownership of your own values and defining what's important to you, you are setting up a system that will guide you through the rough waters of entrepreneurship”. (Sugars, 2010). With that being said here are my guiding principles for my staffing agency.
Daring – Audacious and bold, not afraid to challenge, be it career expectations or a client brief. Actively taking a path less travelled if it helps you get where you want to be and not being afraid of change if it is needed to help you get there.

Passionate – Need to feel a passion about the whole process, candidates’ careers and clients businesses and be committed to finding the right cultural fit and the right career development. Always be prepared to go the extra mile and have the drive and determination to succeed.

Integrity – A genuine interest in people as human beings, and appreciation of the need for honesty, openness and respect. Brave enough to challenge but in a sensitive, caring way. Building lasting, sustainable relationships. Basically, it’s about genuinely caring.
Collaborative – Our Company isn’t a place that is interested in ranking boards, competitiveness or egos but is an inclusive, all-embracing culture which helps us communicate. Whether dealing with a client, candidate or colleague, there should be a commitment to an unfaltering, consultative approach.

Agile – Adapting, evolving, flexible and not tied to any tired processes. Be ready to respond to any issue, good or bad. This constant evolution is needed to meet the demands of clients, candidates and colleagues in a fluctuating, demanding market.
Organizational Strategic Direction
Having mission, vision and values statements can provide a clear plan for the direction the company wants to work towards. It is very important that these statements clearly convey to employees and customers what your organization is all about and how conducting business with your company will be like. People like to stick with people who share similar values and while every strategic plan cannot please everyone the typical majority probably shares in the same values you do. A strong strategic plan let’s everyone know what you are all about, leaves no in the dark on the direction you want to take your organization in. Tying all of your statements together with one reoccurring theme is important for continuity throughout your organization.
Competitive Advantage Addressing our customer’s needs will be the most challenging goal our staffing agency will face. Because the information technology field is always changing and new concepts and software are geared to make an organization more efficient keeping our employees well trained and experienced will set us apart from others in our industry. Staying current on the latest technology will not only help us land new jobs and clients but will also allow us to make suggestions to our customers that they may have never thought of. We want to be the full service staffing agency for our clients from the planning stage to the implementation stage and have the staff on hand to help with every step along the way.
Conclusion
In order for a company to start off on the right foot, the proper foundation for success must be planned out very carefully. Creating a mission, vision and values statements helps an organization stay on track when other things seem to get in the way. Instilling values and morals that your company should operate by will give your employees a clear path to travel in order to be successful. While these things do not guarantee success, they will eliminate many things that could lead to failure.
