The jazz ensembles collectively performed thirteen pieces during the concert. “Fly Me to the Moon”, “Waltz for Debby” and “Ancient Memories” were three stylistically different pieces that allowed the audience to experience the various sounds of jazz music. Jazz music, like all music, tells a story and here are the stories of “Fly Me to the Moon”, “Waltz for Debby” and “Ancient Memories”. “Fly Me to the Moon”, written by Bart Howard and arranged by Sammy Nestico, is an upbeat standard sung most famously by Frank Sinatra. In the instrumental version of this song, a Latin-inspired sounding consonance set the romantic mood at the beginning of this song. A piano and saxophone then alternated the melody of the song as though they were dancing like two lovers flying to the moon. As the passion of the song heated up, the texture changed within...

...widespread use of the internet. The entertainment industry has received seemingly endless media coverage pertaining to the industry’s adaptation, or lack of adaptation, to the new age of the internet. The entertainment industry (also informally known as show business or show biz) is a broad term for the industry of providing entertainment, which includes the sub-industries of radio, television, film, music, and theatre. This industry has gone through an enormous transformation since the internet’s inception in 1995. The internet continues to pose many challenges and opportunities to the industry. This paper will examine the impact, both positive and negative, that the internet has on the entertainment industry. Media coverage indicates that, among the entertainment industry, the film and music industries have been most affected by the World Wide Web. However, the other forms of the entertainment world have, albeit to a lesser extent, been affected as well. The least affected area of show business is theatre. The very nature of theatre is to view a performance live and in-person. There are websites, such as Arte Live Web, that do broadcast live theatre on the web, but such services have not at this point of time become a significant source of revenue or exposure for theatre. There is likely a specialized niche market for this type of internet broadcast so this is a potential area of growth in the future for theatre. The channels of distribution and promotion of theatre...

...Term Paper Shawn Stuart Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” Album Review The album that I have selected for this term paper is Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party.” This is his newest album and it was released on November 2nd, 2010. This album is a my favorite country singer and the four songs that I have chosen to write about are “Dirt Road Anthem”, “Tattoos On This Town”, “Church Pew Or Bar Stool” and “My Kinda Party.” I will elaborate on four elements of popular music in each song that meets the terms in our textbook. For the conclusion portion of this album review I will also explain how this “My Kinda Party” represents an example of popular music according to our text “Popular Music in America” written by Michael Campbell. My favorite song from Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” is titled “Dirt Road Anthem”. This song is somewhat unusual for Jason Aldean’s normal performance style. The chorus is sang with his normal sounding “twangy” voice. However the verses are heavily influence by rap and expressed in a fast paced rhythm and a low-pitched voice during his rhymes. The Instrumentation of this song includes the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, percussion and piano. The chorus contains elements of rock music and uses the electric guitar. The chorus also has an 8-beat rhythm. During each rap verse the beat changes to a 16 beat rhythm. Another song I really enjoyed...

...Caffeine, Cars, and Music. Why these three? Well, caffeine helps me cope with something called the morning, cars are fun and very fast sometimes, and music is just awesome. I’m writing this paper to describe why I like these things and how they are marketed to me. Oh, and thanks for taking interest because my life is actually pretty awesome. The first component I am going to cover is Caffeine. I work for a company; you may have heard of it, it is kind of popular. They are all over the world in fact. And in New York City, there is one on every street corner, literally. You probably drink their products every day. Ringing any bells? Yup, it is Starbucks. I have been a “partner” with them for nearly seven years. I drink their coffee every day too. I guess you can say I am and addict. Oh well. And the best part is that I rarely have to pay for their products. But, what exactly are their products? Their biggest product is obviously their coffee. Starbucks also produces mugs, tumblers, brewers, grinders, French presses, and so on. But it all comes back to the coffee itself. Almost all the other products Starbucks produces are things in which to make or brew coffee and then drink it in. The latte or frappuccino you drink every day has that same coffee in it too, only in a concentrated form called espresso. Starbucks is known for its coffee and the high quality of it is why it is so popular. If you walk into a free standing Starbucks there are like 20+ different types of whole bean...

At the corner of Grand and First, the enclosing forms curve open to the main entrance, across from the Philharmonic’s old home at the Music Center. PROJECT DIARY The story of how Frank Gehry’s design and Lillian Disney’s dream were ultimately rescued to create the masterful WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL By James S. Russell, AIA P H OTO G R A P H Y : © L A R A S W I M M E R / E S TO Fleischmann and a committee assembled to manage the construction visited many of the world’s great halls. Two that particularly impressed the group were not on the usual greatest-hits lists. One was the Berlin Philharmonie, a dramatically expressionistic composition of terraced and overlapping tiers completed in 1963 to a design by Hans Scharoun with acoustician Lothar Cremer. The other acoustical standout was Suntory Hall, 1986, in Tokyo (Yasui Architects), where the acoustical consultant had been Nagata Acoustics, a firm well known only in Japan. In the meantime, an architectural subcommittee winnowed a list of 80 architects down to four who would compete for the commission: Gottfried Böhm, of Cologne, Germany; Hans Hollein, Vienna; Project: Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles Client: Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, the Music Center of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Architect: Gehry Partners—Frank Gehry, FAIA, partner; James M. ...Positioning and Differentiation with Health Care Organizations Two health care organizations located in the same area are Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and City of Hope Research Hospital, both in Los Angeles. Both facilities cater to and are championed by Hollywood celebrities, so in many respects they are similar. Their positioning and differentiation is distinctive in other respects, however. This paper will examine the positioning and differentiation of both organizations, noting their similarities and differences. Cedars-Sinai can boast that “Many a star has been born, literally” there (“Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,” 2008). Its location, “where Los Angeles meets Beverly Hills and West Hollywood,” ensures that it serves movie stars and other Hollywood celebrities, and this visibility prompts exceptional care (“Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,” 2008). In addition to its star-studded patient list, the hospital is also known for being a teaching and research hospital that has approximately 600 different research programs (“Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,” 2008). Even its Board of Directors boasts such notables as Steven Spielberg and Sherry Lansing, and it enjoys celebrity supporters such as Barbra Streisand, Denzel Washington, Mel Gibson, and others (“Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,” 2008; “Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,” n.d.). Cedars-Sinai’s positioning and differentiation are both related to its celebrity image. It has positioned itself as the hospital to the stars by extending...
