...Sheng Lu Assignment: Concert review from Faculty Artist Series Presents (on date 9/8/15) Instructor: Professor Mark Gibson September 22, 2015 That night, I went to Robert J. Werner Recital Hall listened the concert performed by Musician Steve Allee and professor of percussion Rusty Burge. The music they played is relate to Jazz, although I don’t know much about the music, I can feel the player they love music and devote their lives in it. For what I can do I think just enjoy and appreciate them bring their music to us. Also, I was impressed by these two instruments piano and vibraphone they are wonderfully connected to each other, and there is one moment I think piano and vibraphone they are designed for each other. It reminds me my teenage year in middle school, I play trumpet in school orchestra so I can understood them how much they like what they performed it becomes their friend already. But one thing I am curious about is that I was first time saw the vibraphone and I don’t know it can make the sound so special, it feels like I am in another world with that sound only. Such powerful and pure. At the same time, I realized that if I want to learn well on these two instrument how difficult it is, I have to memorize every beat and practice as many times as I can in order to prevent making mistakes. Especially, vibraphone every sing mistake will ruin the whole song due to its specialty. I like the part they played “Waltz for Tomorrow”, the tune of the song is my...

...If I were going to attend a concert, I would typically buy a ticket for a big-name artist at a stadium-like venue such as Madison Square Garden. In this regard, the Rasputina concert was against my status quo. The first thing that I noticed was that I was by far the youngest person there. The main area of the Haunt had a quaint yet unfamiliar vibe. I think that the building itself, which displayed records and music-related relics on the walls, produced the quaint feeling while the attendees produced the unfamiliar feeling. Specifically, many of the attendees embodied a gothic aesthetic. Eliza Rickman, the opening artist, went onto the stage with no grand entrance or special introduction. She spoke to the audience in a more personal matter...

...attended the Season Finale of the Faculty Artist Concert Series, held in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center here at the University of Indianapolis. Lasting a little less than two hours, this particular concert took the audience on a tour through the eighteenth to twenty-first centuries of music, featuring artists all the way from the classical era to the modern jazz era. Because of the variety that was showcased in the music, this performance was definitely my favorite of the events I have watched thus far. A very unique part of this concert in particular was its performers. Unlike the other shows I have gone to on campus, this performance consisted of faculty players rather than students, most of which I recognized from simply walking through the halls of Christel DeHaan during my school weeks. Most of the thirteen staff players were older, which added a sense of finesse to their performances; the years of experience that they had under their belts was very evident since the performers were highly skilled and exhibited such emotion in playing their ornate pieces....

...On September 12, I visited the Club Down Under from 9:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. to view the band Desgraciadas at a multi-band concert. The audience was primarily college-aged hipster Caucasians. The venue was dark, with misty lighting centered on the stage. The audience of hipsters seemed appropriate for the venue- an underground local Tallahassee band. The band consisted of four members. Gladys Nobriga, the guitarist and Amanda Kirchen, the drummer both sported black and white outfits complete with suspenders and thick-rimmed glasses. Desgraciadas’s bass player was Jeppie Gutierrez, who sported a long black dress. Hope Limansah, dressed in jean shorts and a cheetah-print crop top, was the band’s lead singer. Halfway through the venue, Gladys and Amanda switched instruments and successfully demonstrated the band’s flexibility and musical proficiency. Desgraciadas is a group with a unique style of music. To describe their style with one genre would not do justice. The songs they featured in the concert felt like a boiling soup mix of punk and indie rock, with a dash of metal sprinkled on top. Songs were a direct line to the members’ raw emotions. Gladys, while on guitar, swung his head around violently, gripping the guitar tight as he waved it up and down. Hope bounced back and forth with her hips. She would often mimic the dominant guitar’s...

...Feelings about the concert We have just finished attending our third concert in Fenway Center last Thursday. It’s an amazing concert, and all of us should give a performance in this concert. Since I came to America, I have attended three concerts, and I feel that this is the best concert I have attended. Comparing with those two concerts I have attended before, I have more feelings about this concert; and I want to share my feelings with you. In this concert, each of us gave our performances as a unit of class, and our class was the first performer in this concert. We gave four shows: two chorus and two team-sings. The names of our songs were: “We Are the World”, “We are Young”, “Mama Tried”, and “21 Guns”. “We are the World” and “21 Guns” were song by our whole class, “We are Young” and “Mama Tried” were song by Nigerians. In this concert, we used many things that we learned in the class, such as for the song, “We are the World”, we used “call and response” at the end of the song. Actually, when we were practicing these songs, the effect wasn’t very good; we even couldn’t decide what songs to perform. However, when we sang in the concert, the effect was excellent, everyone sang well, and the react of the audiences was good, too. Before I sang, I felt nervous and I was afraid of forgetting the lyrics, however, when I saw the react of the audience, I felt very happy and relaxed. The first performance went on well; other performances were also very amazing. There were many great...

...Choral Concert Report This concert was performed on December 6 at the Performance Hall Mountain View College. Before the concert I was not interested in this event. When I read the title, I thought that a choral was bored. I have to say that this concert was wonderful. Although I enjoyed the guitar and piano concert, this concert is the best. Their voices, their movements, and also their attitudes make this concert my favorite concert. In event was called Winter Choral Festival which the participation of the Molina High School, Carter High School and Mountain View College. Molina High School Chorus opened the event accompanied with a piano and the director. Jimmy Emory was the pianist and Jackie Turner-Creel was the director. The performed three pieces In Dulci Jubilo, Silent Night and Mary Did You Know? The last piece is what I remember more and the one I liked. We could hear the piano and the voices more loud. Despite their style was softer, the Mary Did You Know was beautiful....

...On Wednesday, April 4, I drove to Austin to go see University of Austin’s Butler School of Music Symphonic Band. This is my first time hearing a University symphony band live, and I enjoyed my experience listening to the students' performance. The performances comprised the Overture to ‘Candide’ by Leonard Bernstein, Shadows Ablaze by Kathryn Salfelder, Sound Asleep by Andrew Boss, Wanderlust by Brandon Scott Rumsey, and Aurora Awakes by John Mackey. I had heard none of these songs before attending the concert so my reaction is solely based on my first-time experience of the pieces. The Surroundings The room this concert was held in was Bates Recital Hall. My instant reaction towards this room was over how beautiful it looks. From my...

...The concert I decided to go to was an EDM concert by Kshmr w/ Blasterjaxx. The concert took place in NY inside a big open warehouse. With EDM or Electronic Dance Music the whole genera goes around fast tempo using different instruments to build up and then have a loud base drop. There are no real instruments played in a EDM concert. It is just the artist on stage with his laptop. The artist in this case Kshmr uses a synthesizer, sampler, and an electric guitar. To put all this sound together he uses a program like FL studio to actually make the music. There is no real singing in EDM its mostly all instruments. Kshmr is a popular artist and I was very happy to go and see his especially since he was preforming so close. The whole concert was about 5...

...On Thursday November 30, I attended a jazz concert at Ball and Chain located in the famous 8 street in Miami. This was the first time I ever attended a Jazz concert in my life. I arrived at 6:30 p.m. and the band had already started playing, I was informed that whenever they play they start at 6:00 p.m. The atmosphere here was really pleasant, the place had a touch of dim lights which made you feel comfortable. The room wasn’t too crowded, this was another really good detail, because it gave me the opportunity to better appreciate the concert. There was not too much echo in the place because the front door was open. Although, the door remained opened during the concert the sound of the music could really be appreciated it. There were parts that were pretty loud and other soft, soothing parts....

...Classical Concert Report I attended a Pre-Festival Concert on March 8th,2016. It was located at Hanford High school inside the Presentation center. The center consisted of the main stage and two sections of seats. The bottom section was for the audience and the top section was reserved for the musicians. There were three different groups that played on stage, JFK Concert band, JFK Symphonic Band and Hanford High Concert band. The concert played classical pieces that were played very well by the age group that played it. The concert started out with The JFK concert band. The composer was Ms. Jennifer Broussard and her band played 3 pieces. The pieces were Midnight Mission by Brian Balmages, Clouds by Anne McGinty and Argonauts by Mike Hannickel....

...The Christmas concert I went to was amazing. My parents went with me and we sat on the track going around the gym so that we could get a good view of everything. The concert started out with the choir singing Veni, Veni, Emmanuel. Darrell explained that it was actually a chant. It was interesting to hear and I loved that the soloists were able to be heard even with everyone else singing. It seemed to add more depth to the music. There were more songs that they played, some in different languages. One was in Latin and I thought that it was something that was a once in a lifetime opportunity to listen to because I had never been to a concert that anyone sang anything in Latin. It was amazing. Later on there were two soloists that came out and sang two songs together. I thought that they were very brave and they sang very well. The band played next. They were spectacular. They played with such passion. The moment I heard them play Sleigh Ride, I thought about all the times that I rode a sled down my hil at mu home when I was little. There was one point where the little girls sitting in front of us got up and started dancing. They were Darrell's daughters. One of them started twirling and laughing, then grabbed her sisters hand and pulled her off to the side to dance with her. My parents started to chuckle...

...The Band I chose to do my concert report on is none other than John Mayer. Ironically a few hours before attending this concert I had no idea who this performer was, I blindly trusted a good friend of mine, and bought tickets for both us. Having no idea what i was getting into, not to mention this would be the first concert i would ever attend, it ended up being one of the best decisions i have ever made. The concert was divided into 5 portions mainly focused on John Mayer's legendary guitar skills. It started with the full band, went soft as he played an acoustic portion, than livened up the audience with the John Mayer Trio, took it up some more with the Full Band, and closed the concert with a spectacular encore. The first portion of the...

...On Wednesday, December 2nd I attended to a very impressive concert presents by my great music professor Sergio Gonzalez and Hialeah Performing Arts Club. Dr. Sergio Gonzalez invited magnificent singers from his MUL 1010 class to make this concert unforgettable with his accompaniment in the piano. The first thing that I liked about this concert was the atmosphere because I saw how the audience enjoyed the music played by my talent professor and the amazing voices of the vocalists. Every artist was welcomed with a warm applause from every single person. Professor Sergio Gonzalez, and also a phenomenal pianist introduced every singer who accompanied him on the stage with words of admiration. This concert was about “Holiday Selections”...
