CONNECTING THE INCREDIBLE INDIA
Poverty, lack of education, lack of sanitation, etc are most likely the first few things that come to our mind when we think about Indian villages. We are an agro based economy and our villages have a major role in our growth. These villages are not as bad as we think. In fact, some of them are way better than any metro. And these are some exemplary examples which prove that. * Mawlynnong, a small village in Meghalaya, located at about 90 kms from Shillong, is the cleanest village in Asia. You cannot even find a single cigarette butt/plastic bag lying around there. * Punsari – a village in Gujrat has WiFi, CCTVs and AC classrooms. Mostly funded by the Indian government and the village's own funding model.

* Hiware Bazar, a village located in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra is one of the richest village in India. There is a record of 60 millionaires in the village and barely any poor. From 168 Below Poverty Line families in 1995, Hiware Bazar now has just three. The sole reason for this fairy-tale change is one man called Popatrao Pawar. He banned all addictive substances to minimize expense and encouraged the villagers to invest in rain-water harvesting, milch cattle, etc.

* Dharnai, a village in Bihar, beat 30 years of darkness by developing its own solar-powered system for electricity. With the aid of Greenpeace, Dharnai declared itself an energy-independent village in July. * Chappar village in Haryana has a woman Sarpanch/Village head. Haryana despite being the state with the lowest girls ratio (an abysmal 877) in this village every newborn, regardless of his/her sex, is welcomed into the world with sweets and festivities. * Kokrebellur, a small village in Karnataka, believes in the conservation of nature. Kokrebellur boasts are rare species of birds that fly around and don't even mind humans much. Theese villagers treat their winged compatriots as family and have even created an area for wounded birds to rest and heal. * Pothanikkad – a village in Kerala, was the first in the country to achieve a 100% literacy rate.

* Shani Shingnapur - A village so safe that people don't need doors. It is located in Maharashtra. It is the safest village in India, this place is known for its lack of doors to houses. Not just that, there is no police station in the village. The village has the country's first lockless bank branch (UCO bank) now.

...load on our infrastructure. This provides customers a fast, seamless user experience.” — Chris Evans, Webmaster, VictoriasSecret.com The Challenge The Unpredictability of Marketing and the Online Channel In January 1999, Victoria’s Secret aired its first-ever Super Bowl commercial, announcing the live Webcast of its Spring Fashion Show. The site was flooded with millions of hits within the first few minutes after the spot ran. Just a few days later, the Live Webcast drew a recordbreaking worldwide 1.5 million visitors. This incredible drawing power posed technical challenges for VictoriasSecret.com and many customers were turned away due to the Web site’s inability to support the traffic bursts. Immediately after the 1999 Spring show, VictoriasSecret.com executives began preparing for an even bigger event – the 2000 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Webcast live from Cannes, France. The Victoria’s Secret team recognized they needed to deliver an incredible user experience with improved traffic management and faster content distribution. “After the tremendous response we received from the ’99 Super Bowl ad, we knew that we had to be better prepared to sustain intense traffic bursts in a short period of time,” recalls Chris Evans, Webmaster for VictoriasSecret.com. “If the customer cannot get on the site, they cannot see the Webcast. In addition, we wanted to avoid buying hundreds of servers that would only sit idle when we were not utilizing them to support the traffic...

Renewable Energy Resources Verses Oil Resources

...accustom to convenience, without thinking about the damage they could be causing to their own environment. It has become apparent that the human race has inadvertently and irreversibly caused damage to the very environment they depend on. Most of this damage is in our atmosphere due to the use of fossil fuels and the emission of carbon dioxide. Now is the time for the U.S Environmental policy to focus on developing renewable energy resources rather than further developing more oil resources. Global warming can be seen in numerous different forms, including severe weather patterns, changing seasons and melting glaciers. Since 1912, the Kilimanjaro snows have melted more than 80 percent and the glaciers of the Himalaya in India are retreating so quickly that researchers believe they could completely disappear by 2035. Even the migration pattern of animals and insects has changed with the rising temperatures (Glick, 2004). Though the cost of renewable energy sources may be slightly higher than oil (Rangarajan, & Guggenberger, 2011), it seems a minor concern when compared to the implications of global warming. Many people understand the damage and dangers of continuing to use fossil fuels, but they know little about renewable energy resources. They are told it comes at a higher cost and that it is unreliable, or they simply have not been educated about renewable energy. Yet, with the ability to use...

Fashion Photography

...EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The purpose of writing this report is to enhance my knowledge on the topic that most interests me. Fashion photography is an essential part in the fashion world. The scope of writing this report is to learn all I can about fashion photography and use my findings in the future. I began my research by referring to some books from the library. Then I referred to the web. I learnt many interesting facts. I learnt about the techniques used in fashion photography, the lighting used, famous photographers, various cameras and its features and the types of fashion photography. It was a lot of fun working on this report. INTRODUCTION Everyone wants to see exciting pictures of beautiful people and great products presented with incredible artistry. Nonetheless, the phrase fashion photography means different things to different people. Whether they are involved with the fashion industry or just a viewer of the final results makes a difference. To a photographer, fashion photography is a way to express himself, the models, and the products as one coherent piece of art. The fashion photographer tries to bring to all three a liveliness that transcends each one individually, and to simply make the viewer stop, stare, and think “wow! I want to go out and buy that Valentino evening dress or that pair of Jimmy Choo pumps or that new Louis Vuitton handbag!” although photographers may be limited by their budgets and by any reins that the creative director might place upon them,...

...Centuries ago, when transportations were undeveloped, travelers would need to travel through long, harsh, and dangerous journey to get to where they need to be. Not knowing what the next day will bring, travelers takes on the risk to finish what their mission was no matter what unpredictable events lies ahead. John of Plano Carpini, William of Rubruck, Rabban Sauma, and Marco Polo were four of these explorers in 1200s. Each of these travelers had different agenda but what made them important and famous were the different stories they brought back home and the knowledge gain from these trips. Each mission was different and some of them didn’t even have missions or an agenda, it was just to travel. This paper illustrates the travel of the four explorers and whether or not they succeed on what they were told to do or if the mission was just a waste of years of traveling. John of Plano Carpini was chosen by Pope Innocent IV to head the mission of convincing the Mongols to not attack and conquering Europe as they had with many other countries due to their strong army. John already sixty-five at this time wasn’t the likely candidate to go on this mission but with his good Christian background, the Pope believes he was the one that can stop the Mongols. John’s political incentive was to stop the Mongol from invading any more of Europe. John wanted to form some type of treaty that would allow the two sides to not fight against one another but rather fight against the Holy Roman Emperor...

Film Analysis-Final Paper

...Biographical Films Jenna Nelson December 12, 2014 JASS 248 Professor Erik Marshall Analysis Essay-The Five Heartbeats; The Film Genre of Biopics The Five Heartbeats (1991), directed by Robert Townsend, is a movie that I know all too well. This film effectively portrays the highs and the lows of the music industry and how it affects the members of a group. In this essay, I will analyze the cinematography, mis-en-scéne and the importance of music in films such as this one. I will also expound upon the genre of biographical films and how they contribute to society. Biographical films, or “biopics” represents the life history of an actual person or group. Unlike documentary film, biopics employ actors to play the roles of these individuals: they are dramatized, fictional films. Biopics are often marketed as being “inspired by” or “based on” the lives of famous people including entertainers, royalty, scientists and even criminals. Dennis Bingham conducted a study on biographical films and discusses and history of the biography. He also looks at the various forms of the biopic, including theatrical releases, made-for-television movies and short films. Bingham argues that biopics of women are structured so differently from male biopics as to constitute their own genre. The conventions of the female biopic have proven much more intractable than the male biopic. This is due to society’s difficulty with the very issue of women in the public sphere. The difficulty kept...

...Summary of The World Is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman LENGTH: 4976 words HEADLINE: It's a Flat World, After All BYLINE: By Thomas L. Friedman. Thomas L. Friedman is the author of ''The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century,'' to be published this week by Farrar, Straus & Giroux and from which this article is adapted. His column appears on the Op-Ed page of The Times, and his television documentary ''Does Europe Hate Us?'' will be shown on the Discovery Channel on April 7 at 8 p.m. BODY: In 1492 Christopher Columbus set sail for India, going west. He had the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. He never did find India, but he called the people he met ''Indians'' and came home and reported to his king and queen: ''The world is round.'' I set off for India 512 years later. I knew just which direction I was going. I went east. I had Lufthansa business class, and I came home and reported only to my wife and only in a whisper: ''The world is flat.'' And therein lies a tale of technology and geoeconomics that is fundamentally reshaping our lives -- much, much more quickly than many people realize. It all happened while we were sleeping, or rather while we were focused on 9/11, the dot-com bust and Enron -- which even prompted some to wonder whether globalization was over. Actually, just the opposite was true, which is why it's time to wake up and prepare ourselves for this flat world, because others already are, and there is no time to waste. I wish I could say I saw...

...PEST Analysis: The Indian Airline Industry A PEST analysis is an analysis of the external macro-environment that affects all firms. P.E.S.T. is an acronym for the Political, Economic, Social, and Technological factors of the external macro-environment. Such external factors usually are beyond the firm's control and sometimes present themselves as threats. For this reason, some say that "pest" is an appropriate term for these factors. Let us look at the PEST analysis of the Indian aviation sector: Political Factors In India, one can never over-look the political factors which influence each and every industry existing in the country. Like it or not, the political interference has to be present everywhere. Given below are a few of the political factors with respect to the airline industry: o The airline industry is very susceptible to changes in the political environment as it has a great bearing on the travel habits of its customers. An unstable political environment causes uncertainty in the minds of the air travellers, regarding travelling to a particular country. o Overall India’s recent political environment has been largely unstable due to international events & continued tension with Pakistan. o The recent Gujarat riots & the government’s inability to control the situation have also led to an increase in the instability of the political arena. o The most significant political event however has been September 11. Priracy on Internate Era

...Journal of Intellectual Property Rights Vol 18, September 2013, pp 457-464 Piracy in the Internet Age Nikita Hemmige† ILS Law College, Law College Rd, Pune 411 004, India Received 17 December 2012, revised 12 August 2013 The Internet has created boundary-less territories and has helped in evolving a unique method to share and transfer information, growth of e-commerce and in creating a global platform for all nations and its citizens. Online piracy is a major flipside to this development. Rampant intellectual property (IP) infringements by way of unlawful reproduction and unmonitored downloads is a matter of concern. It is significant to take note of the laws that various countries have enacted and enforced in order to curb or at least regulate online piracy and related activities. Further, though the Copyright Act, 1957 and Information Technology Act, 2000 in India deal with certain facets of piracy, they do not conclusively deal with this menace. It is the need of the hour for India to draft and enforce laws which will address the current problem and also take into consideration the technological advancements that are likely to give rise to more of such complex issues. Formulating such a law in the near future will be a welcome change and will definitely give India the IP advantage. Keywords: Online piracy, copyright infringement, jurisdictional barriers, Internet laws, intellectual property The Internet has become the first port of call for anyone in search...
