Physical and virtual features are a key factor in helping attract the attention of their respective fan base; however, each company applies different features to their respective consoles. In similarities, all three consoles have access to at least 2 USB ports and the ability to connect to the web Wi-Fi. Each platform also has a similar hardware content right out of the box: a main system, a handheld controller, and an HDMI port and cable to connect to the TV. All three devices also support 720p and 1080p resolution for an amazing graphical experience (IGN). There are some features that only two consoles may share or is exclusively on just one. Both Nintendo’s Wii U and Sony’s PS4 integrate Bluetooth connectivity between the main system and the handheld controller while Microsoft’s Xbox One uses infrared or IR. Wii U and Xbox One owners can insert an external storage device into the hardware as long as it meets certain specifications stated by the company. Both Xbox One and PS4 are able to use cloud storage, a service that allows gamers to store additional game data that would be too big to save in the hard drive. ...1. How attractive is the video game console industry in 2008? In 2008 the video game industry is dominated by three major players and their respective gaming consoles. First of all there's Sony with its PlayStation 3 launched by the end of 2006. Then there's Microsoft with its Xbox 360, launched in the end of 2005; and finally Nintendo with the "Wii" in late 2006. These three players are struggling to gain market leadership in the game console industry. The video game industry, off from an uncertain start in 1972 has been marked by quick and frequent changes of fortune amongst the various players in the market. The market was characterized by rapid growth as well as unexpected down turns such as the one in 1983 where the industry lost 97% of annual sales volume in 3yrs. The industry appears to exhibit five to six year cycles of competition which concur with advancement of underlying technology. Nearly all-technological leaps from one generation to the next were marked by a change in leadership. Currently, the market is lead by Nintendo with 60% operating margin, compared to Sony's -9.7% and Microsoft's even worse -33.7%. In recent years, Nintendo has managed to overthrow both Sony and Microsoft despite having a console which is significantly less technologically advanced. There is a low risk of potential entrants due to high sunk costs (as demonstrated by Atari's "ET" flop), large capital requirements and very high economies of scale needed especially since product is sold...

...In 1972, the first gaming console named “Odyssey” was released by Magnavox. For the next 20 years, the battle between Pc and console gaming would be dominated by the console. Since then, the gaming universe has evolved in ways leaving the modern consumer confused on which platform is right for them. With the options available for gaming today, there are many factors to take under consideration. The cost of today’s console is $500; whereas, a decent gaming Pc can cost anywhere from $1,000 - $1,500. The cost of games are similar on both platforms, which is approximately $60. Pc games tend to go on sale more frequently than console games. Ease of use should also be considered. Consoles are for whom the gaming community calls “Lazy-Boy Gamer’s”; meaning, turn on the console, relax in a lazy-boy recliner and play games. This is made possible due to the use of a controller. Pc gaming uses a mouse and keyboard to play games, so the user will be sitting at a desk in an upright position which can be uncomfortable over long periods of time. When it comes to graphics, Pc’s have no competition. With more processing power with a Pc, most games run at 60-120FPS (frames per second) while consoles today only run at approximately 30FPS. Frames per second refers to how many frames is rendered onto a screen per second, the higher amount the better. With the graphics capabilities comes a price. The maintenance that is involved with sustaining performance can be challenging for some. Software updates...

...the question arises, is this true? Are consoles more popular than computer games nowadays? The battle has long waged between different gamer types which is better, console or PC?but we can all keep trying. Console gaming appears to be on the rise according to a new report from market research firm Nielsen. The data came from Nielsen’s sample of 12,000 television using households in the US, which found that although the number of “television households” has only risen by 1.6%,the number of game consoles in those households has risen by 18.5% in the same period of time. Moreover by the end of 2006 there were 45 million homes with the console and 148 million people had access to at least one system. The use of connected consoles-consoles that connect to the internet has grown steadily over the years to 4 million even before the introduction of PlayStation 3 and Wii in late 2006.Systems such as PlayStation 2, XBOX and XBOX 360 appear to have made connected consoles commonplace in the home and online gaming services are becoming more popular than ever, as evidenced by the success of Microsoft’s Xbox live service. In addition to this, consoles come with great benefits which include their easy setup, there are little or no sound adjustment. The patching of games is limited and rarely causes much delay for games you play more often. Furthermore, required updating for consoles is limited. Along with the fact that the popularity of consoles is rising day by day, the rise of the popularity...

...In the time since the release Sony has made numerous attempts at turning around sales. One of the biggest moves was to drop the price drastically. This gave a lot of consumer’s confidence to spend their money on the system. Some consumers rationalize the purchase as a reasonably priced Blu-ray DVD player. Sony also introduced a new peripheral that emulates a lot of the functionality of the Nintendo Wii’s “Wii-mote”, which will most likely sway new buyers away from Wii. Sony has also built a library of very popular games that was a major weak point at the time around release. While many of these moves are a step in the right direction, they were almost expected. For Sony to truly bring back the following they once had with the Play Station 1 and 2, they need to go back to the fundamental mentality of game content. Many of the popular games are now released for all three systems (PS 3, Xbox, Wii), which makes the unique value of having PS3 limited. Sony needs to help developers create highly unique and innovative games that are exclusive to the Playstation 3. While there are a handful of name titles that are sole residents on the PS 3, they do not have the ability to build the brand loyalty in game products that PS 3 needs to convert consumers. Wii has also created opportunity in the market, as they have expanded the consumer market drastically. Sony needs to capitalize on this by creating an alternative brand image that caters to the family and casual gamers that the Wii...

At the end we are going to try to predict the future development of the battle. We are also going to compare them in the above mentioned spheres, with the help of a competitor analysis. Conclusions are going to be derived after every paragraph. In order to do that we are going to use different methods including- SWOT analyses, PEST analyses etc. There were two different variants how to structure the text- first to include the PEST and SWOT analysis in the text for every firm or second variant to add it after the analysis. The second way was chosen because we decided that using this method it will be easier to compare the firms. Additionally we are going to present the information in the most understandable way by a PowerPoint Presentation. Content: 1. Introduction...

...Bungie Developing ‘Sci-Fantasy’ Shooter Code-Named ‘Destiny’ For Xbox 360 And Next-Gen Consoles Topic: New product planning to develop a new Sci-Fantasy Shooter for Xbox 360 and next generation consoles. Introduction: Activision and Bungie, the developer behind Xbox exclusive Halo franchise, has teamed up together to create a new IP code-named “Destiny”. The new product was leaked during a lawsuit over Activision’s Call of Duty franchise. The new product contains a four-part franchise which has games released every other year beginning in the fall of 2013. The games will first be exclusively for the Xbox 360, and then later for the Xbox 720, PlayStation, and the PC. If Bungie meets specific quality and budget milestones, along with a $2.5 million-per-year bonus if “Destiny” scores 90 or better out of 100 on GameRankings.com, the developer would be entitled to 20% to 35% royalties after expenses and development costs for each title. However, if “Destiny” fails to sell at least five million units in the first six months of release Activision has the right to terminate the contract without penalty. For this new product to have a fighting chance of survival the developers would have to create a Strategic Business Plan which would map out the supporting program formulations and implementation of the new product. Also, the management team would need to evaluate the market segments in order to meet the high expectations of the game scores on GameRankings.com. Analysis:...

...Sam Strickland #12577467 Intro to Programming PT1420T Lab 1.1 GUI vs. Console When we look at GUI vs Console, we can see similarities as well as differences. These are usually found in the functionality of both types. Both of them run and execute programs that are installed on their OS. If you enter the command thru either GUI or console, you get the same result. The only difference between these two is the way we, as the user, see it. When using GUI (Graphic User Interface) you actually see some kind of icon or other visual. Usually there is a window or some other way of showing the user that they are in whatever program they execute. If you use the console, it feels like you are back in the 80’s. But if you know the right commands and the right syntax then the user is capable of executing the same programs as if they were using GUI. On the outside they look as different as they are. One has a window or some icon that lets you click a few times and you can execute your file. The “old school” command line is still a good input tool and is still used today in programming and other networking uses. They say it’s easier and faster to execute a command thru the command line but I believe that it’s easier thru GUI. Some people are more adept to learning thru GUI for executing certain commands. But I also think that some commands are better given at the command line. Only because that is how I was taught to view certain information when using a...
