Everything has a beginning whether by accident or design. This is true for inventions, ideas, plans and also religious conversions. Just as the great apostle Paul was on the road to Damascus to persecute more Christians he was met with his 'beginning'. On this road God intervened in Paul's life and with a bright light, being knocked off his horse and blind for three days. This is Paul's testimony of his conversion to trusting in Jesus Christ. Every believer has one even the great Emperor of Rome Constantine. Constantine's conversion is an interesting one and it came about in an unexpected circumstance. But on the eve of the battle October 27 306 Constantine had a vision. This vision would reshape the future and effect generations to come. The description of this vision has differed from sources but it seems the most reliable comes from Eusebius. According to Eusebius he heard the story directly from the emperor himself. The vision is said to begin when Constantine was preparing and marching toward battle. It is not clear as to where he is at while marching. But the story goes on to say that he looked up towards the sun and it was there that Constantine saw a cross of light above it. In the light were the Greek words "Εν Τούτῳ Νίκα", En toutō níka" that translate to Latin as "in hoc signo vinces". In the Latin it would translate to "in this sign, you shall conquer" or in simple English to " Through this sign you shall conquer". Eusebius would go on to tell that Constantine did not understand what this vision meant or what he should do. But that night he would receive his answer through a dream. In his dream he explained that Christ told him that he should use this sign in battle toward his enemies. Constantine obeyed and would put the Greek letters "Chi" and "Rho" on the shield of all his soldiers. "Chi-Rho" are the first two Greek letters of the word "Christ" it would be represented by an "X" for Chi and an "P" for Rho.
