...Construct and Support an Argument Paper Jonathan Ray Santos University of Phoenix MGT/521 October 5, 2010 The purpose of this paper is to construct and support an argument on the decision I made to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degree to further my career as the head of IT. With today’s society, it is easy to find a subject controversial. The paper will elaborate at the benefits of undertaking MBA program with an emphasis in business management and IT analysis. An argument is an oral disagreement, a verbal opposition or even an altercation. Some may say that it is a discussion involving differing points of view. In the corporate world, debates run rampant on our culture and can be viewed as a constructional tool to improve, advance a roadblock, or the source of a company’s failure. So as a start, referencing the Jungian 16-type personality assessment was the first step. I scored ENFP and agree with the decision. According to the Jungian Assessment, those with the ENFP score are better in business analyst roles and tend to be conscientiousness and critical in the decision making process (Pearson Prentice Hall, 2007). Having a very independent and stubborn nature in both my work and personal life I believe the Jungian 16-type personality assessment supports my decision to further my education and enter the critical field of information technology. The personality assessment specifies that I am extroverted, intuitive, thinker, and judging...

...Construct and Support Argument MGT/521: Management August 08 2010 Pursuing a masters in business administration was one of my many dreams and the best decisions I could every make. I knew that choosing to pursue a masters in business administration would begin many new career opportunities. In July 2006, I had the opportunity to obtain my undergraduate degree from the International Academy of Design and Technology Tampa in Recording Arts (Audio Engineering) at the age of 31. At times, the decision felt a little tough because I work time and run my own recording studio. At my old collage, several of my instructors actually made an impact in my life; they advised me to pursue the MBA after six months to a year of rest, in order to get some of my affairs in order. By pursuing an MBA degree, I can also go back and teach at the Academy, it also helps me to achieve goals in my personal life, such as becoming a better businessperson. Some of my former instructors perceive me to be a complex person with a big vision and a low tolerance for stupidity. I thought long about my decision and the time it would take to finish the MBA program and the time I had to give up to accomplish my goals. I did not want to waste any more time and have my dreams ruined, I determined that it made more sense not to wait six months to a year, I only took three months off to give my brain a rest than I decided to pursue my MBA right away after earning my undergraduate degree at the Academy. My decision...

...[pic] Centre for Instructional and Technology Support Academic writing What is academic writing? Well, it is writing done by scholars for scholars. Thanks goodness I am just a student not a scholar hence academic writing does not concern me, right? Wrong! As a university college student you are part of a community of scholars. You are expected to be able to engage in the following activities: Read about certain ideas Think about certain ideas Argue about certain ideas Write about certain ideas Before you start to write you have to read widely in your area of interest. Carry out a literature search in the library or an online search in the Internet. Look for relevant articles in the journals or newspapers or even in books. In an academic writing you have to acknowledge references made in the bibliography. While reading extensively you have to think and decide whether you agree with the authors’ views or otherwise. Do you have evidence to support your stand? On what ground do you choose a particular position. You have to argue it out convincingly in your writing. Do not use hearsay or your gut feeling to support your argument. Look for concrete evidences in other scholars’ work. It is very wrong to submit an academic writing where you merely joint together paragraphs from various articles read without contributing your views, your arguments and your thinking of the subject you are writing. Remember it is not an exercise for you to summarise other authors’...

...played a role; I faced obstacles no matter the topic or form of paper I had to write. Certain factors were able to better assist me when writing, however nothing was ever enough to perfect my writing, or at least, diminish the hardships I experienced. Throughout this first semester of literature I have, of course, experienced problems with my writing, however I have learned to identify my own mistakes and am beginning to better comprehend how to fix these mistakes. During the beginning of this past Fall’s semester, I had lost my confidence in my writing abilities. With my loss of confidence as a writer, came a strong desire to never write again. Still, the consequences of my loss of confidence further extended into my life and effected my overall perception of all things literary. I had no desire to read, and if I somehow felt forced to read, I would pay hardly any attention to the content. This influenced my writing in negative ways. However, I was still unable to recognize or identify the exact mistakes or flaws within my writing. Initially I had sought out the mistakes, but eventually lost hope and felt that there was no way to correct my writing. My horrendous writing skills were set in stone…or at least I believed so at the time. It was not up until I received the shameful grade of a “D+” on my paper, “Following Faith”, that I could fully identify my problems as a writer. I had not been expecting an “A” on my paper- in which I argued that although many turn to God for comfort...

...In your paper, you will analyze the visual relationship between modernism, class and gender, considering both the formal characteristics and subject matter of the paintings you will examine. While attending to the formal characteristics of each work, analyze the ways in which gender and class may play a role in relation to subject matter, composition, and the intended audience. How are the spaces of modernity depicted in these scenes? If the flânuer is the quintessential modern artist, but cannot be embodied by a woman, what is the role of gender in these works? How does the representation of gender factor into the aims of these artists? Construct your argument based on a visual analysis of these two paintings, paying particular attention to how the artist constructs the spaces of modernity, who is depicted and in what way, and how the viewer is, or is not, accounted for. In your a conclusion, consider the impact of the museum space in framing your experience, discussing and analyzing the placement of these works in the museum – what dialogue might be facilitated by these works’ proximity to each other? What relationship might the curators have been considering when they hung these works? Note that this is not a research paper. You will be graded on your analysis of the visual material, and the conclusions you can draw from your analysis. Some background information will be necessary to relay, but the majority of the paper should be based on your own observation and analysis...

...Start a New Career student MGT/521 January 17, 2011 teacher Abstract The following paper will address arguments supporting a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and the considerations for the start of a new job. With over twenty years in the US Armed Forces, I will soon be faced with closing the current chapter on my proud military career and optimistically open a new chapter within a Department of Defense (DoD) Civil Service Agency or US Government Contract Agency. In preparation of this juncture, I feel to achieve an MBA will complement my global experience and bring all my technical, leadership, and management expertise together in a more lucrative upper management role. Start a New Career For most starting a new career can be a bit scary. Fortunately for those of us with a great deal of longevity in the military the ability to step ahead in the interview line is greater than those who have not served in the US Armed Forces. Many employers realize veterans bring a lot of value to their table, such as; accelerated learning curve, leadership, teamwork, diversity and inclusion in action, efficient performance under pressure, respect for procedures, international and technical trends, integrity, conscious of health and safety standards, and triumph over adversity (Veterans Today, 2010). Veterans also bring life experiences which only the military can bestow, soft-skills that unite individuals of all incomes, race, and nationalities, changing their fellow...

...Constructing an Argument Section 1: Big Ideas Many people believe that everything is an argument—every piece of writing, every image you see. That's because every time we write something down—with the possible exception of a private journal entry—we are anticipating that someone else will read or see it, and we hope to achieve some kind of response in that reader or viewer. So even if you are writing a description of your favorite vacation spot, you are probably trying—maybe without even realizing it—to convince your reader that your vacation spot is the most beautiful place in the world. Think about it. When did you read any nonfiction writing that wasn't, finally, trying to persuade you of something in some way? Most rhetoricians—that's people who think about argument and language—agree that there are three basic ways to appeal to an audience. You can appeal to logic. That is, you can lay out your argument in clear, coherent steps, so your reader or listener can see how you get from one conclusion to the next. Or you can appeal to authority. Here you may want to find experts or facts to support your argument—think about Tiger Woods endorsing golf clubs. (Of course, do we also trust Tiger to advise us on buying watches? Not so clear.) Or you can appeal to emotion. Emotional appeals can be extremely powerful, especially when you are able to relate your argument to your readers' values or needs. Most good arguments make use of all three appeals in some way. But...
