The first two examples demonstrate content questioning. Example 3 shows how multi-coding can be done, while Example 4 covers the use of software in automatic content analysis. Example 1: TV violence An "interview" with a violent episode in a TV program might "ask" it questions such as: How long did you last, in minutes and seconds? What program were you shown on? On what channel, what date, and what time? Was that program local or imported? Series or one-off? What was the nature of the violent action? How graphic or realistic was the violence? What were the effects of the violence on the victim/s? Who did the violent act: heroes or villains? Men or women? Young or old? People of high or low social status? 9. Who was the victim/s: heroes or villains? Men or women? (etc.) 10. To what extent did the violent action seem provoked or justified? ...and so on. All the answers to the questions are available from watching the program. Notice that some of the criteria are subjective (e.g. the last one). Instead of relying on a single person's opinion on such criteria, it's usual to have several "judges" and record the average rating, often on a scale out of 10. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Examples Of Quantitative Content Analysis

...Methodology In my thesis I utilized the quantitative content analysis method. There are many definitions of this research method from different authors. Most of the definitions include similar principles. The research should be systematical, objective, quantitative and replicable. Daniel Riff introduced in his book the major definition and compiled their aspects into his own. He says: “Quantitative content analysis is the systematic and replicable examination of symbols of communication, which have been assigned numeric values according to valid measurement rules, and the analysis of relationships involving those values using statistical methods, to describe the communication, draw inferences about its meaning, or infer from the communication...

Content Analysis

...Content Analysis: The data is analyzed to investigate the impact of selected hospitals and their characteristics on completeness and comprehensiveness of hospital SOPs (standard operating procedure) for the management of MCIs (mass-casualty incident) in Israel. No significant differences were found between the ratings of SOPs in relation to the different characteristics of hospitals analyzed. The SOPs do not affect management of MCIs. The population in which the data is drawn from is a parameter of hospitals in Israel. The method for collection data of SOP must be distributed among the different departments involved in management in these hospitals. The boundaries of the analysis are within a parameter of a team of emergency managers that manage MCIs in an effective manner. Health care professionals measured the quality of the SOPs for MCIs. The target of inferences is to better understand the relationship and insight of SOPs to facilitate procedures of MCIs. The results for SOPs of 24 hospitals had no relevance in emergency preparedness. The content of this article uses quantitative research in experimental design. The occurrence of selected characteristics and consistent word usage frequency is reliable and accurate. The results of the evaluation of the relationship of MCIs and the variables in relation to size, trauma, ownership, location, proximity, and population showed no significant relation. According to the charts and diagrams that represent any relationship...

Content Analysis Theory

...The three phases, which constitute content analysis, include preparing, organizing, and reporting. I will be using inductive content analysis because there are few previous studies, which deal with the same or similar questioning and research. An inductive approach will be useful in developing novel theoretical explanations of the phenomena encountered. Content analysis is a method of analyzing written, verbal, or visual communication messages, first used as a method for analyzing hymns, newspaper, magazine articles, advertisements, and political speeches in the 19th century (Harwood & Garry, 2003). During the last few decades, its use has shown steady growth (Neuendorf, 2002), and content analysis now enjoys a long history of use in communication, journalism, sociology, psychology, and business. Content analysis as a research method provides a systematic and objective means of describing and quantifying phenomena (Krippendorff, 2012). Content analysis will allow me to develop theoretical suggestions to enhance understanding of the humor in the Jackass films....

...Yvonne Lara Professor Hall Sociology 101 20 April 2015 Content Analysis Essay: “Crash” The movie Crash is a sensational film that is as much thrilling as it is tragic. The film was released in 2004 as an ensemble drama, and ended up becoming a box-office hit in the spring of 2005. The producer, Paul Haggis, not only directed the film, but was a co-writer as well. It includes enough comedy, action, suspense, and emotion that it appeals to all types of film genre fans. Moreover, Crash had a very popular cast of various types of actors, actresses, rappers, and entertainers. Crash won Best Picture at the 78th annual Academy Awards. Crash is a narrative of many different life events that affect a group of individuals who are of different races, social classes, occupations, education levels, economic statuses, and gender. The film is attempting to portray the current social structure of race, social class, and gender in Los Angeles. Almost each character in “Crash” has a connection, whether direct or indirect, with every other character. Metaphorically speaking, the narrative of the film can be compared to the Domino Effect. One domino falls, and then a chain reaction starts, and one by one, the first domino brings all the rest of them down with it. The first scene opens with Detective Graham Walters speaking. He is a black man portrayed by Don Cheadle. He says, “It’s the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people; people bump into you....

Beowulf: A Content Analysis

...This convergence of old and new media is, as Henry Jenkins says, “The flow of content across multiple media platforms, the cooperation between multiple media industries, and the migratory behavior of media audiences who will go almost anywhere in search of the kinds of entertainment experiences they want” (2). Just like with my mother, her experience with, as well as the books, new media is based on a consumer need to get the form of entertainment they want. With the Kindle, online resources, and other electronically based technology, the book has had to evolve to fit its new platforms. These new platforms, however, have not changed the book as a whole. This old media is still the same media just in a new form. This stems from a need to tell stories. After the invention of the printing press, storytelling was streamlined...

Nurse

...Stephen Mannar Instructor: NRS -433V Nursing Research December 11, 2011 Caring Science | Sources 1. Legitimizing basic research by evaluating quality.Abstract:The aim of this study was to use ethical arguments to strengthen the relationship between the concepts of legitimacy and evaluation. The analysis is based on the ethics of Levinas and Buber and is motivated by a sense of responsibility using dialogical ideology as a mediator. The main questions in this study consider the following: Does caring science as an independent academic discipline have the moral responsibility to develop a theory for evaluating the quality of basic research? and Will such a quality evaluation theory have a reasonable probability of introducing legitimization into caring science? On an ethical level, this study introduces a meaningful interaction inspired by social demands and is linked to the concept of research justification. Legitimization turns from an abstract idea to an achievable entity by an act. The act of evaluation has the likelihood of delegating legitimacy and empowers the foundation of caring science, which in turn will become a cornerstone of nursing. At this stage there is no intention to develop an evaluation theory, rather to create a meaningful discussion for the future development of an ethics-based theory.2. Watson's caring science as a framework...

North West Case Study

...Tiger’s pull system, North West management was considering giving store managers more control over their inventory ordering by moving to a “pull” replenishment strategy.   Barry McLeod, Director of Procurement and Marketing, has been assigned with determining if this “Pull” strategy would be a better fit. In order to reduce the risk and capitalize on the benefits, North West should localize in the hands of Regional Retail Managers. This strategic change will be beneficial for North West as they would gain the required regional/store level knowledge while avoiding giving all the responsibility to local store managers and investing a large amount of dollars to support the pull system.  Table of contents: Contents Issue(s) Identification 1 Environmental & Root Analysis: 2 Alternatives and/or Options: 3 Recommendation: 4 Implementation: 5 Monitor: 6 Issue(s) Identification The North West Company is experiencing inventory management problems with unsold inventory piling up as well as experiencing stock outs resulting in lost sales.   They have not been able to increase their yearly inventory turns from 2.2, well short of industry averages.    Popular items often sell out the day they arrive in stores, while excess stock items can be marked down up to 75%.   Items not sold at the 75% markdown are then shipped back to Winnipeg and sold through a clearance Centre.  These current push models is increasing both sales and inventory/warehousing costs.   The lack...

Measure Theory

...primarily the degree to which a test measures what it purports to measure. There are basically three types of validity including criteria, face and content. It is imperative to ensure that the selection measure used by an organization has all this three measures. This research paper provides an analysis of a situation whereby my organization uses a selection measure that has high criterion validity with low face validity and no content validity. Ethical Concerns Ethical concerns associated with selection measures include fabrication which is considered as one of the primary forms of scientific misconduct. One of the types of fabrication is the use of statistically invalid test measures. According to Heneman, Judge and Kammeyer-Mueller (2012), organizational leaders and managers have an ethical obligation to both potential and exciting employees. It is therefore critical to ensure that any test used in an organization measures what it claims to measure in order to ensure the outcome/findings are not statistically invalid. In this case, the selection measure used by my organization only has criterion validity, significantly low face validity and no content validity thus is statistically invalid. This implies that the test measure has been calibrated against a well known standard thus reflects a certain set of abilities. Content validity in this case shows that the selection measure used by my organization is highly job related. However, it is critical to ensure that a...
