Media Platforms:
“The media landscape today is a complicated network of connected platforms that content is released on to. When we talk about platforms we mean categories or types of media content that can be consumed by audiences. Example of these platforms may be: films, episodic shows (tv, web series), games, literature (comic, graphic novels, books), or even social media (facebook, twitter). Each platform has their own affordance and limitations …we need to take into consideration when creating content and stories to be released with each platform.”
Researching and investing time into finding resources to communicate and build our target market, social media has given us numerous of opportunities to do so.
In our term project, by creating a broader use of variety of media platforms, we can therefore create a wider audience within our target market that might find interest in our film. When this happens, word of mouth will occur that will make people talking and about the interest they find in the film, or even if their review is not so good, at least the concept is still out there. By using platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo and twitter, we would be able to spread our concept over them all to create a larger audience. These platforms are well known and have millions of subscribers. As a member of each of those platforms, I have easy access to upload it onto the websites and therefore it is to my advantage. This would be a fundamental idea behind multi platform storytelling, releasing the content on each platform will mean that it will interlink also adds it onto the overarching narrative of the story.
In these present days where technology has the hand ahead of what is happening, social media is the key point of advertising, exposing and communicating. With regards to pre-advertising, an interesting film related poster would be made in Photoshop with the title, “The Halfway House, coming soon”, and will be displayed in various places. If we are able to, we will be attaching them to larger, more socialized areas where people out of our community will be able to see it. I believe that by making this choice of social media it will engage our audience and hopefully appeal to our target audience to go look at our page on Facebook and then come and see it at the end of year festival, or simply just go view it on YouTube. Nowadays, abstract designs attract the viewers more and I believe our concept will be incorporated into such a design. Yet again, attracting our audience in to view and subscribe, making it easier for our future productions to get more views. Since the world of online media has grown, we will have to face a though a competitive scene, with everyone trying to reach to the highest point. Research to a reference picture listed below, shows that in terms of subscriptions across social media platforms, the amount of ‘millions of subscribers’ will reach a total of 40 million at the end of the year 2017.
