In Joan Didion’s, The White Album, Didion allows us to see a snapshot of the late 60’s as she sees it. A reporter trying to exploit American culture, she interviews and observes many famous people who may have been the faces of that time period. Media was becoming more prevalent, and so was the importance of celebrity status. The American people began striving to live “glorious” lives to mimic celebraties, and idolizing stars whom in public may seem to be great people, but behind closed doors have lives filled with controversy and corruption.
