...SAMPLE CHAPTERS 1-5 1 ASSESSMENT ON THE FINANCIAL SERVICES OF CAVITE METRO CREDIT COOPERATIVE IN IMUS CITY, CAVITE Rosanne Esmeralda Bordador A Research Paper submitted to the faculty members of the Department of Management, Cavite State University-Imus City, Cavite in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Prepared under the supervision of Dr. Jennypher N. Fenomeno. INTRODUCTION Informal types of cooperatives are as old as human history. Whenever people come together voluntarily to help one another by providing a group service, they actually had a simple form of cooperative. But the cooperative movement as we know it today had its beginnings in Europe during the modern times as a result of the Industrial Revolution. In several European countries, the first cooperatives were organized by workingman who were seeking to change the wretched conditions brought about by the new age of machine and factory production that began in England two hundred years ago, and soon after in other countries. In England, the weavers and the other workers in the textile industry were the hardest hit, and they were among the first to organize cooperatives for the purpose of improving their desperate economic and social conditions (San Gabriel, 2010). The International Co-operative Alliance mentioned that Cooperative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural...

...Case Study of the NOVADECI Health Care Program By Rosa C. Mercado and Ramon A. Certeza Introduction This case study focuses on the role of the Novaliches Development Cooperative (NOVADECI) in providing health care and medical services to its members. NOVADECI is a cooperative initiated by market vendors in 1976 in a bustling urban community. It started its operations in the town of Novaliches and has since then widened its scope of operation to include the areas of Caloocan and Quezon City, two highly urbanized and populous cities in the Philippines. Quezon City is home to many government and private offices, shopping malls and public markets, schools and universities and sprawling residential areas for both the rich and the poor. NOVADECI had a very rocky beginning, borne out of desperation and necessity for a small group of market vendors who were struggling to keep their businesses afloat in the face of changing market conditions, lack of support from or access to government and banking institutions and perennial dependence on usurious money lenders. Over the years they have realized that their margins-of-profit were being eaten away by the high interest rates they have to pay on loans. In 1976, a tipping point came when the slaughterhouse on which they were getting their meat supplies was ordered closed by the city government due to poor sanitation. A small group of 15 market vendors decided to close ranks and put their heads together. They poured out...

...1 Challenges We Face in FM by John Vinken, IFMA Toronto President Vinken’s Views - President’s Message Spring has sprung in Southern Ontario and my mind races onward with ideas that I want to implement both at work and home. And what a better way to explore these ideas and develop some structure around them, than by hiring a person that is motivated, energetic, and able to acquire current knowledge easily. Yeah I know you are asking “Where do I get in line for someone like that?” Well what I have just described is a co-op student. I have my usual 2 co-op students already reserved and they will be starting in 3 weeks time. And let me tell you my whiteboard is filling with initiatives and ideas for these two to deal with. And with two facility management related college programs in the area (at Humber College and at Conestoga Collage) there are co-op students looking for jobs in the facility management field. If you want the contact information use the membership CD just sent to you and on the opening page are the hyperlinks for both of these institutions. This is the third year that IFMA Toronto has produced the membership CD rather than published a membership roster. There are, of course, issues with this year’s CD as there have been with every membership roster created in history I believe. Some of the problems are related to getting updated information about member. As an example when people renew their membership and if it is tardy the membership listing we acquire...

...Generally, the word “ethics” is originated from the ancient Greek word “ethos” that means a custom, success, nature, character, the manner of thought. ORIGIN OF ETHICS “Ethics are as important for the public servant as blood for the body” (Unknown in Van der Waldt & Helmbold, 1995:170). * PANELCO III, like individuals, is constantly changing through new leadership, environmental influences and socio-political development. PANELCO III cannot promote and enforce ethical behaviour solely through the utilisation of ethical codes of conduct or through the promulgation of a plethora of board of directors and the top management. Social mind sets are often still entangled in a micro-ethic paradigm. People tend to equate moral values and moral norms with values and norms, which apply only to personal relations structures within which they interact. PANELCO III needs an organisational culture that not only supports ethical behaviour, but sees that it also defines and underpins right and wrong conduct at an individual and institutional sphere. The origins of ethics have a meta-ethical basis. Several philosophers have argued that human beings are inherently ethical. Mencius (in Singer, 1994:28), asserts that human beings are naturally virtuous in that if people follow their nature, they will be able to do well. Rousseau contends that the origins of ethics are natural human sentiments. Pity is considered as a...

...agriculture to more high-end business firms. Most people are well educated and are pretty successful. The unemployment rate has even dropped since the Immigration Law was put in place. Comparing India to the United States is fairly simple. India has been around for nearly ten thousand years, when the United States has just begun developing within the past five hundred years. Even with ten thousand years of development, India falls far behind the United States. Creations such as the automobile and the telephone revolutionized the American economy, while India’s economy still struggles to this day. This is evidenced by Balram when he stated, “The greatest thing to come out of this country in the ten thousand years of its history is the Rooster Coop.” (page 147). India’s economy consists of more agriculture than any other business. The United States is decreasing in agriculture more and more every year and increasing in services. Services in India are starting to cause economic growth like the United States, but not as rapidly. The old driver states, “I haven’t had work in forty years, you nitwit. How the fuck can I help you? Now get lost.” (page 49). In India, people still suffer from lack of...

...Executive Summary The scope of this report is to study the insurance sector in Saudi Arabia and analyze current trends with the objective of ascertaining where the industry is placed amid intense competition, profitability and capitalization pressures. Remarkable growth for the insurance industry: Though relatively young, as indicated by the low penetration and density, the insurance market grew 18% per annum over 2008–12 and was the second largest market in GCC. It contributed 33.5% to the region’s total Gross Written Premiums (GWP) in 2012. Several growth drivers are in place for the insurance industry. Highly fragmented industry, intensifying competition: The sector comprises nine segments, with health and motor accounting for over three-quarters of total GWP. The industry is highly fragmented; of the 33 insurance companies, the top three contributed 52.7% to the total GWP and 87.5% to the industry’s profits in 2012. High concentration is fueling competition in the sector. Company analysis: We analyzed insurance companies’ financial performance by classifying 30 firms into three categories based on their equity capitalization (shareholders’ equity). The first set of 11 companies with capitalization over SAR200 mn accounted for a market share of 70% in 2012. The second set of 12 companies with capitalization between SAR 100 mn and SAR 200 mn reported an improvement in financial strength in 2012, and a few exhibited the potential to gain market share and scale. The third group...

EBIT margin is expected to remain 7% during five year forecasting horizon owing to the continuous improvement of EBIT margin in the convenience segment. Moreover, further efficiency gains in term of technology and productivity will support margin expansion. • Temporary drop in sales followed by gradual recovery: under both impact of recession and the loss of one client, we forecast a slight decrease in sales of -0.74% in 2011 based on half year result of 2011. Afterwards, there will be a gradual increase of 2% annually starting from 2012, which is in line with estimated economic recovery and sales contribution from two acquired companies named Keller SA and Bernatur in 2011. • Convenience is a key segment: the Group’s EBITDA target of 10% is completely achieved by soon capturing the increasing trend of convenience segment (“ready meal”, “food services” and “vegetarian food”), which is expected to grow by 4.4% until 2014 (Figure 7).
