Competency is defined as the ability to do a job efficiently. University of Alaska Southeast offers six competencies meant to help students master important skills which include Information Literacy, Quantitative Skills, Information Technology, Professional Behavior, Critical Thinking, and Communication. Effective learning only takes place when Communication is present, which include, speaking clearly, listening attentively, writing effectively, are the most important elements in succeed. Among those skills, Communication would be the most useful competences for professional, educational, and Social life.
Effective communication is greatly appreciated in every workplace. It is essential to be able to use a specific spoken word to get your point …show more content…
A student must be able to discussion information to their classmate , for example; during class discussion, I gave my opinion on a moral dilemma question. Students must also be able to present their ideas in class in a form of presentation. For example, I gave a presentation on things I did for my community services. Students should be able to communicate with their professor for the classroom related topic. I have had meetings with my professor to talk about specific areas I need to improve on my writing. Communication is also important in writing areas. A student must be able to write effectively and state their ideas clearly to get their point across. I have written three essays so far in my World History class, and Communication played a major role in expressing my opinion. Even the most basic position in a company requires employees to have good written communication skills. Effective communication is very important in writing, correct spelling, correct grammar usage and a professional way of providing information are important competencies in Communication.
