All Core Board Representatives will:

* Represent our Program and University communities to the best of their abilities at all times. * Serve as mentors, resources and liaisons for our constituencies: students, administration, and faculty. * Effectively communicate with and on behalf of their Core. * Encourage and support the development of their Core and Class communities. * Foster the development and implementation of student-led initiatives. * Work as a strong team within each Core, across Cores and throughout the community. * Encourage and facilitate collaboration across our three Cores. * Actively participate in Program Office, Career Services, C4C, and other community initiatives. * Periodically represent Marshall as a Senator during USC Graduate Student Government (GSG) monthly meetings. * Periodically represent your core during Marshall Graduate Student Association (MGSA) meetings. * The average time commitment is 3-5 hours per week, but can be more or less depending on special events.

Primary Responsibilities of Individual Core Representative Positions

Academic Core Rep

* Act as primary point of contact for Core Faculty, Administration (Dean Fraser and Janella Chiang), and MGSA VP Academics (currently Aaron Chaum). * Collaborate regularly with Core Faculty, Administration, and MGSA VP Academics. * Facilitate constructive communication among students, Core Faculty, and Administration. * Collect and communicate constructive student feedback for Core Faculty and Administration. * Discuss and elevate academic questions and/or concerns to Core Faculty and Administration. * Organize and maintain calendar of assignments. * Organize creation and distribution of faculty approved study materials. * Facilitate creation of student study groups and student-led review sessions.

Career Core Rep

* Act as primary point of contact for Career Services staff, Dean Fraser, and MGSA VP Career Development (currently Timothy Cheung). * Collaborate regularly with staff and MGSA VP Career Development. * Assist Career Services with data collection. * Facilitate constructive communication amongst students and Career Services. * Discuss and elevate career questions and/or concerns to Career Services. * Facilitate career and club Core announcements. * Organize Core career goal/resource data. * Create and maintain list of Core club/organization career reps.

Community Core Rep

* Act as primary point of contact for Administration (Dean Fraser and Janella Chiang) and MGSA VP Community (currently Lauren Klein). * Collaborate regularly with MGSA VP Community and Administration. * Help facilitate, support, and participate in community events to build Marshall, Class and core camaraderie. * Plan Core events. Collaborate with peers and other Core Reps on cross-Core events. * Support 2nd year students and Administration efforts for school-wide events. * Facilitate and manage Core community announcements. * Create and maintain list of Core club/organization reps.

...Hot on the heels of "Far from Heaven," which looked exactly like a 1957 melodrama, here is "The Core," which wants to be a 1957 science fiction movie. Its special effects are a little too good for that (not a lot), but the plot is out of something by Roger Corman, and you can't improve on dialogue like this: "The Earth's core has stopped spinning!" "How could that happen?" Yes, the Earth's core has stopped spinning, and in less than a year the Earth will lose its electromagnetic shield and we'll all be toast--fried by solar microwaves. To make that concept clear to a panel of U.S. military men, Professor Josh Keyes (Aaron Eckhart) of the University of Chicago borrows a can of room freshener, sets the propellant alight with his Bic, and incinerates a peach. To watch Keyes and the generals contemplate that burnt peach is to witness a scene that cries out from its very vitals to be cut from the movie and made into ukulele picks. Such goofiness amuses me. I have such an unreasonable affection for this movie, indeed, that it is only by slapping myself alongside the head and drinking black coffee that I can restrain myself from recommending it.
