Nail Technician Research Paper

...Research Paper Rough Draft: How to become a Neat Nail Technician Looking around the room, I see an array of beautiful shades to choose from. Pastels with deep dark colors of nail polishes are sitting on organized shelves to be chosen. Sometimes a salon will have a strong stench of chemicals, mixed with the sound of nail buffing drills, and chatter too. However, getting a manicure and pedicure is still a relaxing retreat that many women, even men, look forward to. When I was a just a little girl, I became exposed to the art of nail design and a vast selection of polishes throughout the years of my mother’s influence. Painting nails, playing with false nails, and the experience in taking trips to the nail salon with my mother have become hobbies of mine ever since then. Thereafter, I realize that in order to become a professional nail technician, it will take hours of practice and training to obtain your license, and testing your skills in your new workplace. This topic is something interesting that I liked learning about, and I thought it would be great to be able to save money by doing own nails. “As a nail technician or manicurist, you will trim and polish clients' nails, repair broken nails, and apply nail extensions. Additionally, you will assess the...

Analyzing a Job in Preparation for a Job Posting

...2013 Analyzing a Job in Preparation for a Job Posting According to Cascio [ (Cascio, 2010) ], the most common methods of analyzing a job are observation, interviews, job performance, critical incidents, and structured questionnaires. In most cases, it is necessary to use a mixture of methods because they may not be as effective un-aided. The use of an analysis helps to identify the competencies and pertinent skills required to meet the needs of a job position, and the ultimate goals of the organization or department within the organization. Job analysis aids in skill set determination, selection practices, provides appropriate classification or reclassification of positions, and sets standards for performance appraisals. In this paper I will describe the interview process using a job analysis. My job analysis is very close to the job descriptions posted on various websites that host open jobs for the hair industry. The duties that I perform as a salon owner are similar to those for jobs in my field. For example, a duty that is listed to perform the job that I do is the ability to provide exceptional customer service. If I were interviewing a candidate for the job as a stylist I would ask for examples of what the applicant thinks exceptional customer service is. I researched three hair salons; Super Cuts, Hair Cuttery, and Great Clips. Duty Details The ability to provide exceptional customer service is paramount in this particular industry. After researching similar...

Skin Is Not Skin

...Eboni Goodrich Research Paper 1 Project 3; (400 hours) February 17th, 2014 Tennessee Academy of Cosmetology Michele Byers didn't have any skin problems. She just wanted to do something nice for herself as she approached her 50th birthday. Byers went to an at-home esthetician for microdermabrasion, a nonsurgical procedure that polishes away dead skin. After a session, bumps started to appear on Byers' face. Her cheeks were covered in indentations. "It looked like a railroad track on my forehead and nose," says Byers of Castro Valley, Calif. "Here I was trying to do something nice for myself and I ended up looking worse than I ever had in my life." Contrary to popular belief, darker skin is not tougher; in fact, while extra melanin does have its benefits - sun protection and slowed signs of aging - it makes the skin more sensitive and vulnerable to injury. The side effects are common for people with darker skin. Most skin care is only marketed to white people (lacking tone), not even Asians, Hispanics and darker-skinned Europeans. Education of the skin is geared to white skin, and it's still not considered to be a prestigious career here in the United States as with beauty advisers in Europe. If the skin is darker it is prone to scarring and hyper-pigmentation, so we have to be more careful with skin of color. Latin, Asian, Indian, Mediterranean or African-American descents skin requires special skin care. Even acne or laser hair removal should be handled differently on...

Importance of Vocational Education

...NAME TEACHER COURSE DATE Importance of Vocational Training Introduction: Service Project/Research Topic Though this paper is about Vocational Education and Training, I'll begin with a discussion of reason behind the topic. For the last couple months, our English class has had the assignment to complete twenty hours of service to solve a community issue. For the first while I had no clue what I was going to do for my service project much less find a research topic related to my service. I raked through my memory and I remembered one experience I had with my former wood shop teacher at Orem High School. He had already retired and came in to visit the shop and we were talking about why he had retired. Though he seemed nostalgic and remorseful about leaving the school, he stated very bluntly that vocational education was fading and would soon be unimportant. I did not ever have a chance to ask him what he meant, but I think I figured it out. He meant that in the United States, as well as in countries such as China (Willis 39) and India (Agrawal 453), Vocational Education and Training (VET) has begun to fade and but its significance is still prominent. We already see this in Nigeria. (Kennedy 274) So that is what I picked for my research topic, and I decided to volunteer at Orem High's wood shop and see for myself the advantages and disadvantages of a lower level VET program. I have concluded that VET programs are highly valuable, need support, and should be recognized...

Executive Summary Ann’s Beauty Salon is an old-fashioned, traditional salon located in the heart of Williamsburg Brooklyn, an area that has transformed from being low-key to a trendy neighborhood of artists and musicians. Most of Ann’s clientele are women aged 65 to 85, but the median age in Williamsburg is now 30.8. Almost all of the new businesses now serve the newer tenants, whereas many of the businesses that served the population before the drastic change in demographics, such as Ann’s, have left the neighborhood. Ann’s sales have progressively declined in recent years and three years ago, it started to operate at a loss. Rita Quillo, who purchased the business 13 years ago, is at a point where she has to make tough decisions about the business. II.
