...change,” Brooke Seger, a cosmetologist from Indianapolis, Indiana, stated. Style and change is very much related to cosmetology because cosmetology is all about looks. Just to get an outlook on this occupation, a lot of important information includes salary potential, working hours, availability of positions, job duties, and required training and education. All of which are important aspects to carefully look over when deciding if cosmetology is the right career for you. The Occupational Outlook Handbook [OOH] reports, “Median hourly wages in May 2008 for hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists, including tips and commission, were $11.13. Median hourly wages in May 2008 for barbers, including tips, were $11.56. Among skin care specialists, median hourly wages, including tips, were $13.81. Manicurists and pedicurists earned $9.46, and shampooers earned $8.32 (Bureau of Labor Statistics 3-4).” This seems fairly the same, since this was reported in 2008, as this year, 2010. According to today’s cosmetologists, the salary depends on the workplace, although these wages seem very similar to any normal cosmetologist. From my outlook, I think the hours are very flexible and random. I walk in to get a pedicure and I get in within 15 minutes. When I get my haircut, I usually call my hairstylist and state and time within a few days, or even hours. Kirby Waninger, my personal hairstylist from Jasper, Indiana, mostly agrees, although she says, “We are closed on Mondays, but we usually...

...set of assumptions about the world and people based on your own personal influences. Your thoughts on everything stem from your world view. Take your parents for example, or the education you received, even where you grew up can influence the way you view the world and the people you come in contact with every day. An important influential aspect of my world view comes from my education. Looking back at the educational influence of my parents, a direct parallel to who I was as a student in my past and the student I have grown into is illustrated. Both my parents were high school graduates. My mother was a book worm who excelled at anything and everything she did. While my father was a social butterfly who got through school with his smile and charm. Much like a double edged sword, I received a little of both academic and social influences from my parents. In grade school, as a child, I went to school in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and received great educational instruction. Both, middle school and high school were no different in the level of education I received. Sadly, I was unaware of how my performance in high school would greatly affect my future, and as the contribution of my father’s genes, I was a social butterfly more than an academic book worm like my mother. Ultimately, I never applied for a real college experience and went to cosmetology school instead. Though a career in cosmetology is not one to be ashamed of, I believed, for myself there was more...

There was a case that Bronze Age weapons and offerings were found in hot springs in countries France and Czech Republic. Romans, Native Americans, Egyptians, Persians and Babylonians even believe that spa is one way to one’s physical and spiritual sanctification. Ritual ceremonies and bathing rituals are done in a spring or well. While in Greek and Roman times, spa has been well-known for relaxation and personal hygiene. ...Critical Review of Cizek, Gregory J. (2005). High-Stakes Testing: Contexts, Characteristics, Critiques, and Consequences In Richard Phelps (Ed.), Defending Standardized Testing (pp. 23-54). New York, New York: Psychological Press. By Cheryl LeBlanc-Weldon When I decided to delve into the issue of high-stakes testing, I purposefully set out to find its defenders. Critical thinking is important to me and part of the process of thinking critically is to view a variety of perspectives on an issue in order to obtain an informed understanding and from that, an opinion. As an experienced educator, I have participated in standardized testing in a variety of ways. I have administered and graded tests in both Mathematics and Language Arts. I believe that currently in Nova Scotia we don’t have the type of high-stakes testing they have in the USA and other parts of the world. Our students do not need to achieve a certain level of achievement on the standardized tests they take in order to grade and teachers are not fired or have their salaries docked when students fail to achieve the benchmarks. Still, the provincial tests our students write do have a degree of importance in that the results are published for media and public consumption (which directly affects the opinion people form of the health of our education system) and certain resources are channeled into schools with the weakest performance. In addition, the way students view themselves and their abilities are affected...

...Stem cells: What they are and what they do Researchers believe stem cells offer great promise for new medical treatments. Learn about stem cell types, current and possible uses, ethical issues and the state of research. By Mayo Clinic staff You've heard about stem cells in the news, and perhaps you've wondered if they might help you or a loved one with a serious disease. You may wonder what stem cells are, how they're being used to treat disease and injury, and why they're the subject of such vigorous debate. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about stem cells. Why is there such an interest in stem cells? Researchers hope stem cell studies can help to: * Increase understanding of how diseases occur. By watching stem cells mature into cells that eventually become bones, heart muscle, nerve cells, and other organs and tissue, researchers and doctors may better understand how a variety of diseases and conditions develop. * Generate healthy cells to replace diseased cells (regenerative medicine). Researchers hope they can train stem cells into becoming specific cells so that those specialized cells can be used to regenerate and repair diseased or damaged tissues in people. People who might benefit from stem cell therapies include those with spinal cord injuries, type 1 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and multiple sclerosis. Stem cells could also be grown to become new...

All three played varying roles in career outcomes. This study attempted to identify to what extent these factors played a role in career choice...

...Gloria Davies and Gil-Soo Han KoreAn coSmetic SurGery AnD DiGitAl publicity: beAuty by KoreAn DeSiGn Abstract This article examines the relationship between digital publicity and cosmetic surgery. While focused on South Korea, it also discusses China because of the conspicuous Chinese demand for Korean cosmetic surgery in recent years. In fact, China has become the largest export market for Korean cosmetic surgery. The analysis is based on the premise that there is a vital link between cosmetic surgery and digital technology in both these countries. We argue that the celebrity culture spawned by entertainment media has facilitated the normalisation of cosmetic surgery to the extent that it is commonly viewed, quite unproblematically, as a form of human physiological enhancement. The article examines the publicity surrounding cosmetic surgery (comprising media reports, advertisements and commentaries) to see how it is presented in the Korean media and on the internet. These findings are then considered in relation to the promotion of Korean cosmetic surgery in China. In the 2000s, Korean cosmetic surgery rose as a by-product of the massive cultural phenomenon known as Hallyu, or the ‘Korean wave’. Hallyu represents Korea’s media success: its entertainment products have generated enormous revenues since the first exports of Korean popular culture in the 1990s. In 2009, Hallyu revenues were estimated to have reached US$6 billion (cited in Oh, 2010). Cosmetic surgery was first...
