In the novel Free Baseball by Sue Corbett, the theme of the book goes along with a quote. The quote is: “Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.” There are two examples of when this is shown in the book, when Felix, the main character, sneaks into the dugout of a professional team to find out more about himself, and when he sits and listens to a horrifying story about himself from his mother. The first way that the theme of this qu0te is expressed is when Felix sneaks into the dugout of a professional team. Felix is at a baseball game that he won free tickets to and he sees that there is a Cuban player on the other team, just like his Cuban father that he has hazy memories about.
