Course Reflection Upon reflection, I attach honesty and thoughtfulness to this part as I seek to gain my Degree in Hospital Medical Reimbursement and Coding. As I reread my words, I recalled the much anticipation and interest I had for studying this course. During my first days as a student, I always tensed when exams approached and more so when an exam had a project that required presentation in front of a panel and a vast audience.Public speaking was because my greatest weakness was public speaking and also because my command of English language was wanting. This course, ENGL 101 has enhanced my communication skills, and public speaking is no more weakness to me, Hargie (2006). This course also has improved my thought process, I now know how to handle the mismatch between thought speed and speaking. This mismatch is potentially detrimental when I express myself. I have also become perfect in the command of English language, and use of words in the misappropriate context in my medical career is no more an issue to me. This experience I have gained is of the essence in my career, as I practice medical coding and reimbursement. Due to the command of English, I will avoid unnecessary grammatical errors that might lead to bad coding habits and eventually cripple the medical coding system. Also, I have been made to understand meanings of certain words in different contexts, and this is a plus in my career. Again I will act professionally and ethically as I know sensitivity to certain words in line with my career. Honestly speaking, although I have gained vast knowledge from studying ENGL 101. There is room for me to improve on written English on general writing skills such as spelling, punctuation and also vocabulary enhancement, Hargie (2006).

...Course Reflection Melissa D. McElhaney EH 245 Brenau University July 7, 2013 Carolyn Giddens Course Reflection The reading of the many texts has improved my reading skills. It has to an extent improved my writing skills too. As the authors took me to their worlds, I became so engrossed in their writing that I tried to imagine myself a writer. The books are spread across different timelines, so it was easy for me to reach into the social, political and economic conditions that existed during the writing of the books. Mary Wollstonecraft struck me as a very perceptive writer. Writing in an era that was male centered, she brings out some of the cultural politics that existed at the time. Her writing style, only rivaled by the stream of consciousness technique adopted by Virginia Woolf, is very clear and precise. From this, I gather that a writer should be clear in both prose and verse to communicate the message clearly to the audience. Other writers in the reading list also affected my writing and reading skills. For one, the numerous texts forced me to be keen and fast while reading the books. I think my skimming techniques have improved. I was quick to discern the central focus of the texts and go through the books as fast as I could. Reading all these literature enhanced my ability to understand different documents about women issues in society. They provided a multicultural approach to the study of critical feminine theory. The course content has proven very challenging...

...Course Reflection December 13, 2015 Dear Professor This course has been very informative. English has never been one of my strong suits. Your course this semester has helped me with strengthening this skill to help prepare me for the business management field. The assignments I felt were most beneficial included the bad news and memo assignments. Being in a management position, there will times that I need to deliver bad news to staff members. This assignment gave me insight on how to handle these types of situations in a professional manner. Memos are an integral part of any office. The memo assignment showed me the proper way to prepare a memo so that it did not look like a personal email. My least favorite assignment was the Persuasive Message. I do not feel that I am very persuasive and this is a skill that I am lacking. It was very helpful by making me practice this skill, but it was not my favorite assignment. I do feel that my writing skills have improved. With writing, there is always room for improvement and the more that you practice your writing skills, the better they will become. Since I want to work in the healthcare management field, my writing skills are going to be used on a daily basis. This course has greatly increased my chances for successful business writing that is professional looking. I would like to thank you for teaching English in a way that could be easily understood. Your feedback was insightful as well as useful. I truly...

Course Reflection

...Course Reflection Over the semester my writing has dramatically improved since my first day here at St. Edwards University. Throughout the semester I gained better writing habits and tactics, but I also obtained further knowledge on how to create well organized and formal academic papers. The main thing I've learned from this course is how to improve my writing process as a whole using correct grammar and punctuation, and creating better sentence transitions. My weakness as an incoming freshman was the ability to find my voice as a writer and develop a point of view so that I could expand on the things I wanted to say in my writing. I could create all these ideas for my paper, but as soon as I began to write, I would get stuck leading my paper into this big mess with no general direction. As a result, my paper would lose communication between the reader and myself. My paper would make sense to me, but as a reader, he/she might have misinterpreted the main point of my paper. On the other hand, my strengths in writing before August consisted of good organization skills to set up good ideas and thesis statements. I could create a good argumentative thesis statement to ensure some type of structure for my paper. During the first week of the semester, my goal was to see improvement with my skills as a writer and critical thinker. As the year progressed, getting my colleagues and professor’s advice about the mistakes I was making in my papers influenced me on how to improve...

...I remember vividly the overwhelming feeling of anxiousness that I had, after my school counselor told me that I needed to take a Speech Communication class. Knowing that it was a pre requisite to graduate, I know that I had no other choice but to tough it out. The next several weeks, I thought would be some “agonizing” weeks, turned out to be some of the most fruitful times I had at National University. Public speaking has always been one of my weaknesses, but taking this class has provided me with many tools to add to my tool bag to be successful in public speaking. One of the lessons I have learned is knowing the basics of communication is important in building the foundation of a good speech. So, when we are preparing for a speech, we have to know our audience. Another part of the basics of communication that is just as important is knowing how ethics ties into communications. When speaking to an audience you must build trust based on factual information. If you give factual information and not false information your audience will be more likely to receive your message. Another important lesson I have learned is, how important Speech preparation is. It can either make or break your speech. So, come unprepared, you are almost guaranteed to fail in delivering an effective speech. If you prepare properly, your speech will come out almost naturally. The first part of speech preparation is to know what type of speech you are going to give. Is it...

...Student Course Reflection Lyndsey Sorteberg US-101 September 21, 2013 Bethany Chappel Student Course Reflection When I first decided to enroll in school I did it to fill a void. My husband had just walked out on my son and I and nights were really hard for me and I thought it would be a good thing to fill those hours between the time my son when to bed and the time I went to bed. Do not get me wrong I always had wanted to go to college but my ex-husband had always told me I did not need to because he was there to provide for our family. Since I have been in school for 9 weeks I see it is so much more than just filling a void, it is so much more that taking up a few hours in the evening. It is a real commitment and well worth it. Completing a degree in higher education opens so many doors for a person. It will allow me to gain the knowledge and skills I need to advance in a career that I will enjoy and be able to grow in over the years. Notice I said career and not job because that is what I will have is a career. Right now without a degree, all I have is a job. There is no stability in a job but there is stability in a career. I think the value of a degree is priceless. I know grade school and high school were mandatory, but college was a choice. It was a choice I made, and when I am finish I get to say “Look at what I have accomplished!” I climbed this...

Student Course Reflection

...Student Course Reflection By: Henry Horns Jr. 1. What do you believe to be the long-term results and the value of completing a degree in higher education? I feel that the most valuable thing about getting a degree in higher education has to be starting my career. Working is a blessing in itself, especially in this economy that we live in today. I just feel that working for a salary has more promise than working for wages. For me professionally having my degree will get me to where I want and need to be in my life. Education plays an important role in where our nation goes in the future. Certain parts of this world focus more on education than we do and it shows in the numbers. If we were to concentrate on education more I believe that we would see a better result in our communities. There would be better jobs, better environment, and you would see crime go down as well. I never really understood why my Dad couldn’t get certain positions at jobs that he had in the past. He would come home from work upset about not getting ahead. He would always tell me to make sure that I went to school so I didn’t have to go through the same situations that he endured. I didn’t do it as soon as he would have liked, but I’m trying to take his advice to heart. Better late than never, right? 2. What is your personal plan for your academic and career future? How does completing a degree in higher education help you? I will...

End-of-Course Reflection

...End-of-Course Reflection This class really prepares me for future classes and for my professional career. This course has helped me to know myself better. It has taught me skills I will take with me to my future courses. The result of this course has been unsurprisingly positive, as I enjoy being able to learn in a variety of different ways. I feel that this helps me to understand the material better. In this course, I’ve learned my intelligence type, my leadership style and my communication style; just to name a few. Adding this to my self-knowledge will be useful for me in the future. Once I get in the work environment I will already know my strengths and weakness, so I will know how I can be an asset to a company. I’ve learned how to analyze a job description, to help me craft my resume and cover letter to the specifications of the position that I’m applying. I know the differences between the must-haves and nice-to-have for a job by reading the job description. I now know my hard and soft skills thanks to this class. Another thing I’ve learned is how to keep a schedule. Keeping a schedule really helps me stay on track with my tasks, by eliminating time wasting tasks (time zappers) and procrastination. Using a schedule will be useful for my future classes and for my professional career. The long-term group commitment in this class is something that is new to most students but is absolutely essential to future work environments where you may be working for the same group...

Reflection Essay

...first month of my Foundation Degree Assistant Practitioner course. It will explore the importance of communication amongst the health care professionals and how a good nursing documentation is an integral part of nursing. It will also demonstrate how reflection enabled me to make sense of and learn from this experience, as well as identify any further learning developments needed to improve my practice and achieve the level of competency needed for when I qualify as an assistant practitioner. While discussing the knowledge underpinning practice, evidence based literature will be reviewed to support my discussion and for the purpose of reflection the essay will be written in the first person. Spouse, J, et al (2008). Jonhs, C (2009) defined reflection as learning through our every day experiences, towards realising one’s vision of desirable practice as a lived reality. He also added that it is a critical and a flexible process of self inquiry and transformation of being and becoming the practitioner you desire to be. However, Ghaye, T et al. (2000) stated that for the health care professionals to develop a more reflective posture, they must fully embrace both the principles and the practices of reflection. It is about becoming more aware of how we learn and how this affects what we think, feel and do. There are different models for reflection; some are more complex and detailed than others. To help me with my reflection, I have chosen Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle as a guide: ...

Reflection on Mentorship Practice

...Examples of Reflective Writing Example 1 I arrived on the ward at 7:30 ready to begin a 12-hour shift. After receiving handover, my mentor assigned me the job of bathing Mr B with the help of a healthcare assistant. Mr B has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a progressive disease of the nervous system with rapid deterioration due to spongiform encephalopathy. He is not expected to live to Christmas, even though he is only 19 years old. He is mentally aware of what is going on but is physically unable to demonstrate activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, has limited communication skills and is doubly incontinent. He is unsafe on his feet so mobilises with a wheelchair. I approached Mr B’s bed and asked his consent to take him for a bath. While the bath was running we began helping him to undress. He looked rather nervous. At the thought of myself being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care. We assisted Mr B into the bath and started his wash. I knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to be able to wash himself, but was unable to do so. I was finding it difficult to look him in the eye, especially when it came to washing his genitalia. I tried to ease this by making conversation, but in a way this made matters worse. After the bath we dried Mr B, dressed him and returned him...
