...audience to stay by his side. In contrast, the main persona in Sir Walter Raleigh’s poem, “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” appears to respond to that of Marlowe’s poem in a negative tone. Because of the nature of both poems, Marlowe’s poem has a masculine voice, whereas Raleigh’s poem has a feminine voice. The history of the poem and the way it was written can help decipher whether if the poem was a masculine tone or a feminine tone, or even the each way gender reacts to the idea of courting presently in comparison to how the poets interpreted courting. Both poems were published during the late 17th century and the early 18th century. A critical essay written by Sheri E. Metzger states that “the great Elizabethan lyric sequences typically begin by identifying the poet's mistress as the primary lyric audience” and this quote shows that during the Elizabethan time period many of the lyrics of poems written would refer their mistresses as the audience. Poems were a very popular way of courting members of the opposite sex. Both poems were a way for the poet to show their emotions to their lovers. Marlowe attempted to do this by expressing the many things he had to offer to his love in order for her to come by his side. They were not just things that an ordinary person would be able to offer, but it was something far beyond normal. Another reason that a poet would have for writing a poem would be to compete amongst his fellow poets. Raleigh decided to respond to Marlowe’s poem...

...or esteem". Also friendship may be defined as "the favored companionship of people". Again this definition relates the ideas that friendship is a type of relationship in which people choose to relate because of favor or some sort of preferred attachment. Interesting is the fact that Websters definition links friendship with affection and self-esteem, leading the way into our inference that dating is a higher level of having a friendship with more affection. Dating is explained as to accompany, escort; court, woo another. Long-term relationships are usually considered to be a balance of dating and courting depending on the couple. The dictionary definition of courting is "to engage in social activities leading to engagement and marriage". Obviously, courting (albeit a somewhat old-fashioned and less used term) is yet a further advanced level of dating and hence a relationship. Courting appears to be reserved for those couples with more serious interest in finding a permanent partner or mate. Finally the definition of the apparent goal of romantic relationships: "Marriage 1) an intimate or close union. 2) the institution whereby men and women are joined in a special kind of social and legal dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family". Noteworthy in the two Websters...

...Dawn Bunting Increasing Burger King's Sales Through the Use of More Effective Marketing Strategies Marketing 201W Feedback To: Burger King's Marketing Department From: Dawn Bunting As marketers we know that wherever there is a Burger King restaurant, down the block we see a Mcdonald's restaurant—Burger King's biggest competitor. With the economy in a slump and “eating healthy” as the new trend, Mcdonald's isn't the only competitor. Subways, the “brown paper bag” lunch, 7-Elevens, and even vending machines have taken a large portion of Burger King's potential customers. Therefore, the challenge that Burger King faces is retaining its target market group and luring in other types of consumers, in order to hold its ground, while its competition tries to do the same (DataMonitor, 2010). The most notable problem, among the many that are to be mentioned here, is the current trends with its target market—18 to 34 year-old males. According to Mintel Reports, as of 2007, men, ages 18 to 24, spend 7.3% of their income on “food away from home” and men, ages 25 to 34, spend 6.0%—percentages that seem relatively high when compared to older males (Mintel Reports, 2007). Although the numbers seem pretty favorable, Burger King fails to cater to, and focus, on women. Studies have shown that fast food is one of the four most frequently purchased items by women, ages 18 to 34 (Mintel Reports, 2008). Furthermore, studies have shown that 70% of all women made...

...When Odysseus slaughtered the suitors, he spared the lives of Medon the herald and the minstrel Phemios (xxii, 320). However, he didn’t spare the life of the priest Leiodes. Why didn’t Odysseus spare Leiodes’ life? According to The Odyssey, “he [Leiodes] was the only man to whom their [the suitors] evil deeds were hateful and indignant with the others” (xxi, 146). He also tried to stop the suitors from courting Odysseus’ wife, although unsuccessful (xxii, 315). Leiodes was the “sacrificial priest’’, why didn’t Odysseus take pity on him (xxi, 146)? Leiodes saw the error in the ways of the suitors, but he was killed all the same. Yes, he did partake in the courting and eating at Odysseus’ house, but was it really justified to murder him? Sparing Medon the herald I can understand, he was a loyal servant, like Eurykleia. The situation with the bard would be understandable, too. Phemios said to Odysseus that “your own son will tell you that I did not want to frequent your house and sing to the suitors after their meals, but they were too many and too strong for me, so they made me”, and Telemakhos did confirm the bard’s statement (xxii, 350). Maybe the priest also didn’t want to partake in the activities of the suitors; maybe he was forced to participate, just like Phemios. What really puzzles me is when Odysseus said to the herald “…that you may know in the future, and tell other people, how greatly better good deeds prosper than evil ones” (xxii, 371). If because...

...FILIPINO VALUES (REACTION PAPER) Submitted by: Paula Nicole M. Escandor Submitted to: Prof. Lilibeth Cortez We Filipinos, almost all of us know about the hit noontime TV show Eat bulaga’s Kalyeserye, Especially the new love team, “AlDub” they’re known not just for their undeniably strong chemistry and the sweetness overload, but also because of the good values that their showing, the Filipino values we used to have, that’s actually fading slowly from now. The reality is, most of us nowadays forgot the traditional values, the proper ways. One of those is the way of courtship. Man courting a girl usually nowadays they don’t take it seriously, some just for fun, most doesn’t even know what courtship is and how it’s being done, when is the right time and age, for someone to know about this. But no, nowadays even kids who’s just an elementary students are hurrying their way to this stage, courting a girl from his age when he doesn’t even have any idea what’s really the meaning behind courtship. Some, just want to get a girlfriend, waiting is not on their list. Girls, gets easily fooled by a guy’s sweet words eventhough there’s really no meaning behind it. They easily get attached, not minding what the guy could do for them or if the guy is capable of protecting us. Girls nowadays aren’t conservative at all. In the Kalyeserye, they just don’t show us those love thingy, but the respect is there. We Filipinos are also known for being respectful, especially on someone older than us...

...man she fancies”, he is revealing the stubbornness and greediness of the suitors. This portrays the suitors as greedy and power-hungry, as they only seem to care about “worldly goods” and “wealth”. In addition, they are revealed to be quite stubborn, since they refuse to leave, despite Penelope’s loyalty to Odysseus. Another example would be Telemachus’s view of the suitors: And mother… she neither rejects a marriage she despises nor can she bear to bring the courting to an end– while they continue to bleed my household white. Soon–you wait–they’ll grind me down as well” (Homer 85). This quotation reveals Telemachus’s stand on the situation with the suitors. According the the quote, he clearly despises them, but is too passive to take action. When he says that his mother “neither rejects a marriage she despises / nor can she bear to bring the courting to an end”, he is implying that the suitors are so persistent that his mother does not have the heart to reject them and cannot bring the courting to an end. Thus, it reveals the selfishness of the suitors, because despite knowing that Penelope does not wish to marry and does not have the heart to drive them out, they still continue to plague and disrespect the palace. This selfish behaviors of the the suitors and how they regard Penelope, in fact, represents female inferiority. The way the suitors only care about winning Penelope’s hand in marriage for power, and how they could not care less about her feelings, shows...

...It is always been a great difficulty figuring out who to date. Going through life and figuring out do I follow the wants of my parents in a mate, or should I follow my heart. In my personal romantic life we will be discussing the decision model, of dating, and the social heuristic behind dating. Through this paper there will be details of the incentives of the dating scenario, identify the risks and potential decision biases. Then there will be an in-depth analysis of the scenario where the decisions will be looked and how they impacted the social factors. Finding a mate is never a easy process. Being part of an Italian family there were many indicators that the family pushes you towards. Being socially awkward, I leaned to the attention to my family because they knew what was good for my well being. Also why would they stray me the wrong way in my life. I had to make many decisions in order to find my mate the only thing on the line was, my heart. So when I mentioned to my family that I was open to the dating world, I was given a list of traits that I need to find in order to find the “ideal mate”. At the time, with my family being an important part of my life, I was open to the idea of finding a mate that would suit my family needs. Of course if these list of demands in my ideal mate were not met, then I would face family disapproval. Which in an Italian household takes a very long time to shake off. To fully know the incentives was purely find a mate. The idea would...

...Flight Doris Lessing Text 2 The grandfather has some issues with being abandoned. He feels that the youngest granddaughter is still too young to be married; therefore he is not willing to let go of her. His attitude is very overprotective and grumpy, but deep down inside it hurts him to see her growing up. He wants her to stay carefree, teasing and giggling as a child, not to grow up and become an adult. The fact we do not hear anything about his wife, tells us somehow she is gone. All he has left is his daughter and his granddaughter. His daughter got married to a man when she was seventeen years old. The other three granddaughters also got married and moved away. This only makes him madder – because he does not want to loose the last granddaughter, Alice. He knows after Alice gets married, nothing will ever be the same again. He thinks she is far too young to get married and just wants her to stay. Miserably and angrily he shouts at her, asking her old-fashioned phrases stating his objection to her future marriage, and eventually threatening to tell her mother when she disobeys him. Possessiveness and selfishness have blinded him. The grandfather’s anger towards Alice is because she is leaving him for another man, and the anger towards his daughter Lucy is because she gives Alice permission to leave. The old man who is also the main character, lives in a house by the railroad with his daughter and granddaughter. He keeps birds in his house. The birds are very symbolic...

...Chapter 2 – How to Raise Money Lucas Bennett 3 Feb 2015 Do or do not, there is no try. Always talk with confidence in the success of your product. Attitude determines outcome. Investors will be more likely to invest. Determining how much money you need to raise will determine who you will be courting for seed money. All financial planning models that determine financial need will be wrong. Therefore, it is wiser to plan how long you want to operate your startup until the next meaningful milestone and/or how long to get users or expected revenue growth and/or what is your burn rate. Generally there should be real progress around a year. (approximate at best). When determining a goal for seed money never ask for more than is absolutely necessary, a VC may hold back investment because they believe you will not meet your necessary goals. Additionally, do not give a range of goals. For example, between 5 Million and 7 Million. Be precise. Things you will need before courting a VC: (1) A short description of your business also known as your elevator pitch. This is a quick description of your business. Typically between one and three paragraphs and describes the product, the team, and the business. Concludes with a very direct paragraph about whatever next step you want. (2) An executive summary is a 1-3 page description of your idea, product, team and business. This is your first impression with the firm and expect it to be passed around. Therefore it...

Ostonal 1 BSA 2 Professor: Alan Llenaresas Race: Language: Hanunoo-Mangyan language. - Combinations with the vowel a are rather common too, such as in lines having the end-syllables: a, ak, ag, ang, as, aw, ay. Here the vowel a is combined with nearly all the consonants in the Philippine alphabet. In the same way, the vowels I (or e) and o (or u) can be found as the rhyming syllables, either alone or in combination, e.g.: I, id, ing, ip, it, and o, od, ok, on, ong, os, ot, oy. - One who has a knowledge of the language of the Hanunoo-Mangyans as it is used in their daily conversation, will be able to understand very little of the language that is used in the ambahan. The language used in the ambahan differs from the spoken language, though many a word used widely in the daily Hanunoo-Mangyan language is also used in the ambahan-vocabulary. It is quite possible to compile a long list of words (eventually a complete dictionary) that are used only in the ambahan verse, but, for the purpose of this book, only a few words need to be mentioned Religion: The teenager makes up his mind and leaves the house where he doesn't feel at home anymore.
