...Early Childhood Environment The Nebraska Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Education (1994) describe an appropriate learning environment for the young child: "The primary learning environment provides time and opportunities for children to experience and respond creatively to their world. The learning environment is social in nature, providing a secure and stimulating climate for all children. It provides time and opportunities for children to take appropriate risks and to explore and investigate their world. Children have experiences which encourage them to interact with others, to develop interpersonal skills, and to work and learn cooperatively." (p. 3) Lombardi (1992) notes that the early childhood environment should be based on developmentally appropriate practice: "Programs for young children should not be seen as either play-oriented or academic. Rather, developmentally appropriate practice, whether in a preschool or a primary classroom, should respond to the natural curiosity of young children, reaffirm a sense of self, promote positive disppositions towards learning, and help build increasingly complex skills in the use of language, problem solving, and cooperation." Effective Grouping Practices An important organizational issue in early childhood education is the grouping of children. ...Lecture Instruction in Teaching Science: Its Effect on Pupils’ Performance. II. Rationale Over the years, schools have always been concerned with how to come up with effective teaching-learning experiences for the pupils. In an attempt to attain this goal, the teacher is expected to possess a thorough knowledge of the criteria of good teaching and the mastery of the subject matter to be taught and a broad knowledge of various teaching approaches/ strategies in teaching. In teaching subject like science, a teacher should choose a strategy where pupils develop their ability to think, act and organize knowledge. With this method, pupils become more independent learners capable of learning on their own. III. I need a plan that will get me to my goals and make the most of what I have already learned. In the 8th grade a recruiter for the Navy came to our school to explain all the interesting and fun benefits that a person could get from the military. Right then and there I decided to join the Navy as a Navy Nurse and then finish my education to become a Pediatrician. My plan to become a nurse came to a halt when I became pregnant with twin sons and was not able to continue on that path. Reading into the Covey visualization example about picturing what people would say about me at my funeral really put things into perspective. The realization that I didn’t complete my goal as becoming a I want people to say that I was dedicated to making a better life for my children, continuing my education and I never wanted to stop learning to better educate my children. I would also like people to know me for the love and passion that I gave to my family and my friends. I agree with Covey when he says that all things needed to be created twice in order for them to be successful. He says that first you must have a mental creation followed by a physical creation. While I was pregnant I took the time to evaluate what I wanted to do with my future as well as the children’s future (mental creation)...
