...was. I remembered back to last year, at this same time. I would sit in the high branches of this apple tree and call out to my little sister whenever I found a perfect apple. I would hide the two best ones up there in the sky and pass the rest down to her. Later, when Papa and the older boys were out in the field and Mama was doing the wash, she would climb up to meet me. We would sit against the rough bark of the tree, our legs straddling the branches, and steal our pieces of heaven. The apples were as sweet as ambrosia and crisp like the autumn air. We would whisper quietly about our dreams of leaving the farm behind and stepping out into the world. Her eyes would grow as round as the apples we ate as I told her of all the fantastic things that were waiting for us....

...sweater with a muscle shirt underneath, a random pair of blue jeans which he would change into a pair of shorts when he went to rehearse and a pair of converse. It wasn't very stylish but in the next hour he would be sweating and moving around too much to care. Walking out of his room, the boys all started to head out but he stopped in his tracks when he felt a tug on his sleeve. Turning on his heel, his eyes landed on the redhead named Kihyun. Eyes slightly widened on the honorific title he continued to say. Why was he suddenly calling him Oppa and/or Hyung? The redhead never did, even when they were almost -- or was he wasn't really sure what they were -- a thing. Yoongi wasnt complaining though, he liked the new honorific. Preferably liking Oppa...

...to argue against his opinion that after the age of 75, you’re basically useless. The theory that after you surpass the age of 75, you’re basically useless…is a flawed logic, there are so many aspects that pertain to how ‘useless’ you are, for example, arthritis, inflames the joins of the body, it can be any joint, but I will use the knee as my primary example, so if somebody has Osteoarthritis, it could enfeeble somebody to not be able to walk very easily, but just because they can’t walk, doesn’t mean they can’t write, sit and do work, for gods sake with today’s modern technology…that being prosthetic legs and some body parts plus medicine, people could still do things with something such as Osteoarthritis. A person’s ability to be creative, is personal choice, you can choose not to be the creative type, you can choose to have new ideas and thoughts every five seconds, it’s all about your mindset. A person can choose to be a negative, boring, and not outgoing person, depending on how it’s viewed, how people take advantage of the situation. Even if...

...What's great about doing creative presentations is not only that you get to work and mingle with other people but also because you get to learn new stuff as you create and perform the presentation. Another thing great about having creative presentations is its difference from the ordinary and typical classes. In a typical class, the teacher disscusses a certain topic to the students wherein the students are expected to learn from the teacher's discussion. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that technique but we have to take into consideration other students who may not be able to clearly understand some part of the topic due to multiple factors. One could be lack of attention span. Now, in a creative presentation the students themselves get to study the topic on their own and think of a way to share their gaied knowledge with their students. A way that is the student way, in that case all students can relate. Given that all students are able to relate it will give a better chance of students learning even more. Plus, since it is a creative presentation, we need not worry about students with little attention span. I'm not very attentive when it comes to disscussion because I prefer to do things on my own but with our creative presentation, I learned to work in groups well which is to me is a good thing. I believe that to say that a presentation is successful, one does not only need to make the audience understand youe topic but at the same time the performer should be able...

... After attending Oh wonder’s concert I was immediately hooked. In the first song they performed called, “Livewire,” I instantly noticed how well Josephine's and Anthony’s voices merged together. The songs had this mystical quality to them and “Livewire” showed that. Anthony’s high voice and Josephine’s low voice merged perfectly together. Another thing I noticed throughout the concert was that most of their songs had very little instrumentation. Some examples of this were the songs “Heart Hope” and “All We Do,” which used only piano chords and some percussion used occasionally. Although I am a person who does like to hear instruments, Oh Wonder’s minimal instrumentation had no effect on my my enjoyment I had throughout the whole concert. Instead of relying on instrumentation to carry their songs, Oh Wonder relied on meaningful lyrics that depicted the songs meanings. This I thought really showed their true potential when it came to authentic songwriting. Even though I did enjoy the concert as a whole there were some things that I thought could've been approved upon. One of these things was the flow from song to song. The thing that really hurt the transition between songs was the order in which the songs were played. For example, in their third song “Technicolor Beat” that was an...

...responsible for all of Compaq’s inventory. When Steve Jobs got sick Tim Cook had to step up and be the CEO of Apple. He had to do this three times while Jobs was out sick. When we look back at our studies on leadership, we see that there is a big difference between leaders and managers. I think Tim Cook is and would be a awesome leader to work for. This is what he said about leadership. Tim Cook "We want diversity of thought," he says. "We want diversity of style. We want people to be themselves. It's this great thing about Apple. You don't have to be somebody else. You don't have to put on a face when you go to work and be something different. But the thing that ties us all is we're brought together by values. We want to do the right thing. We want to be honest and straightforward. We admit when we're wrong and have the courage to change." So what has Tim Cook Done to get such a reputation? Well I think that what he has done since he has taken over is made things more about the customer. Tim Cook understand what it is to be and consume of a product that doesn’t work. He fired the engineer behind the operating system IOS 6. He has shifted his focus on his...

...The philosophers tell us that art consists essentially, not in performing a moral act, but in making a thing, a work, in making an object with a view not to the human good of the agent, but to the exigencies and the proper good of the object to be made, and by employing ways of realization predetermined by the nature of the object in question. Art thus appears as something foreign in itself to the sphere of the human good, almost as something inhuman, and whose exigencies nevertheless are absolute: for, needless to say, there are not two ways of making an object well, of realizing well the work one has conceived -- there is but one way, and it must not be missed. The philosophers go on to say that this making activity is principally and above all an intellectual activity. Art is a virtue of the intellect, of the practical intellect, and may be termed the virtue proper to working reason. But then, you will say, if art is nothing other than an intellectual virtue of making, whence comes its dignity and its ascendancy among us? Why does this branch of our activity draw to it so much human sap? Why has one always and in all peoples admired the poet as much as the sage? It may be answered first that to create, to produce something intellectually, to make an object rationally constructed, is something very great in the world: for man this alone is already a way of imitating God. And I am speaking here of art in general, such as the ancients understood it -- in short, of art...

...aThis group activity, Cascades, is really interesting to me. Since I am very interested in field survival, I read books about how to survive in wild. I also really enjoyed watching the TV series “Man in wild”, which is crazy with some useful skills such as how to find water and how to light a fire without any lighters. Based on my personal experience, I have determined that water and keeping warm is the priority to survive in this situation. Because a man can survive for a long time by simply drink water, which should be enough for 5 days. And since these six people were trapped in such a heavily snowstorm day, to keep body warm is really important. As soon as I determined the key elements of this situation, I started to think about how to make water and how to make us feel warm and comfortable. As soon as I chose the necessary items for water and fire, I gave up the rifle immediately, which I know it is really useless because there would not be any animals to hunt and we didn’t need a gun to protect ourselves. It was easy to choose the top and bottom items, but I was kind of hesitated while choosing the middle class items. When discussing in a group, each person had offered their ideas and they all have different priorities than the others. We basically brought out items like which one was the top one and which one was the second. During this progress, all of us were trying to persuade each other because they were all so filled with passion like one of my group member was so...

...because it is so much bigger and so much more complex than it was 15 years ago when Steve Jobs came back to the company that he had co-founded. Should it change? Sure. They will have to adapt to a new reality of being big, of having more scrutiny. For example, their secrecy will become more and more difficult over time, and I suspect they will try an intelligent approach to adapting to that difficulty rather than just trying to hold things off as long as possible. Knowledge@Wharton: We'll come back in a bit to the issue of secrecy about which I have a few questions. But for now, why don't we talk about Tim Cook and his leadership style? Do you have a sense of how Cook is putting his stamp on Apple and how he should, in some ways, think differently by not emulating Jobs in everything he does? Lashinsky: One thing that Cook has going for him is that he is not Steve Jobs, and my impression of the man is that he is not confused at all about this. He is extremely different from Jobs in almost every way. He is not an emotional person. He doesn't have a creative or artistic background the way Jobs did. He's passionate about Apple, he's passionate about business, he's passionate about operational excellence. I think eventually he will put his stamp on Apple, in that it will be more professional,...

...WHY BEING FAMOUS IS NOT THAT GREAT Ah, fame! We love celebrities and wish that we were like them. So that we can get paid loads of money, have everyone know what our names, know our life stories, have everyone love us and of course the greatest gift of all, entertaining people. When I was a teenager, I dreamt about being a famous filmmaker. I was always writing stories since I was child and I was getting more and more into writing when I got older. And I thought filmmaking was the thing for me and that was what I wanted to do more than anything in the world. But when I told people this, they all made fun of me. Even my so-called "friends". No-one took me seriously. So my filmmaking ambition didn't get off the ground. I thought I should give up my creativity for good. What's the point of telling stories if no-one cares? Then I realized, you don't need fame as filmmaker or author to show people how creative you are. So that's why I turned to posting stories on this site. And I get a lot of views from all over the world and that makes me very happy. Now that I'm an adult, I'm actually glad I never became a big filmmaker or a celebrity. And here's why: No matter where you are, people just won't leave you alone. If you want your privacy, there is no chance. You want to have a nice quiet meal in a restaurant. Just you and your family, but fans keep interrupting you asking for your autographs. It is nice to make a fan happy, but when you have to do it over and over and over and...

After the movie ended Kevin took his snack break and headed towards the concession stands. From the corner of his eye he saw Mark with his crew walking into the theatre. Kevin stood there staring like he saw a ghost. Mark and his crew walked over to Kevin and started making fun of him. “Hey man, what’s that all over your shirt?” Mark chuckled, beginning to dump a bucket of popcorn on Kevin’s head. “Dude, what was that for?” Kevin yelled back, “I didn’t do anything to you.” “I don’t care, you’re in my way,” Mark smirked. Kevin turned away and headed for the bathroom, “What a jerk,” he mumbled under his breath. In the bathroom...

...last minute. Some of my strengths include that I have a very strong work ethic and great communication skills. I have passion for literature it allows me to be somewhere mentally rather than physically. I can imagine myself as an actual character in that particular piece of work. I also have a passion for history because it allows me to learn about the past an envision my future. My communication skills might need to be refined so that I can be more focused when talking to large crowds. Recognizing my personal strengths wasn’t as simple as I thought. Knowing and understanding my skills, personality traits, and job qualities is a very important thing in today's work society. Once these characteristics are understood and identified, I then could begin to think about my weaknesses, which are generally more difficult to admit. The thing I loved about this class it focused more on my strengths as opposed to my weakness, which I thought, was ironic. Realizing my own weaknesses, and being able to admit them is the first step in creating a positive learning experience especially when that’s asked in an interview. While in my internship I could see myself as well as my team members assessing our strengths as opposed to weaknesses, it allowed us to the to focus on the positive and work better together. Resulting in a well-balanced learning team. Having a well-balanced learning experience is an important milestone in recognizing and building work ethics, skills, and...
