...Creativity is the capability or act of conceiving something original or unusual. Innovation is the implementation of something new. Invention is the creation of something that has never been made before and is recognized as the product of some unique insight. Discovery Previously unknown, yet objectively extant objects or properties of objects in the material world are discovered INNOVATION:- Innovation is the introduction of something new something that deviates from established doctrine and practice. The act of creation, of making something new, is only the first step in a long path to historical change in materials and culture. What makes something innovative is not just that it is new, but that it takes root in some way, making changes in established cultures, doctrines, and practices, leading to historical significance. The theme of innovation is one that requires depth of thinking, it is about examining ideas, methods, and inventions, and not merely about events and individuals. We are expected to look at the need for change, how that change came about, the methods that were used to convince the public that it was necessary, and the impact it made. INVENTION Invention can be an aspect of innovation and, in fact, is often the first step in innovation. However, the crucial difference occurs between the relatively discrete creative act of invention and the far longer process of innovation. Innovation involves the process of convincing people to change their...

...Proceedings of the National Conference On Undergraduate Research (NCUR) 2013 University of Wisconsin La Crosse, WI April 11 – 13, 2013 Evaluating The Alternative Uses Test of Creativity Caitlin Dippo College of Design University of Minnesota Twin Cities 100 Church St. SE Minneapolis, MN 55455 Faculty Advisor Barry Kudrowitz Abstract The Alternative Uses Test is a means of evaluating divergent thinking abilities. The test requires subjects to list nonobvious uses for a common object. In our studies, participants were given three minutes to take this test using a paper clip as the object. There are several objectives of this research. Firstly, we are testing the hypothesis that the subjects who list more responses will have more creative responses. Similarly, we hypothesize that as one lists alternative uses, the items suggested first will be less creative/novel than the items towards the end. This data should provide insight into how people make associations while generating ideas. A secondary goal of this research is to develop an automated scoring rubric for this specific Alternative Uses Test to allow for a faster evaluation of creativity. Keywords: Creativity, Alternative Uses, Paperclip 1. Introduction Divergent thinking is a critical part of a creative design process. Design problems typically do not have one correct solution and often there are many solutions for a given problem. It is important to better understand how divergent thinking is evaluated...

...Running Head: CREATIVITY AND SCHOOL MATHEMATICS Mathematical Creativity Among School Children Gulsun KUGU Creativity Literature Review As a broad meaning, the concept of creativity has been expressed in not only social sciences such as literature, art and music, and but also physical sciences such as mathematics, computer sciences, biology and chemistry. Creativity catches scholars` attention so that they certainly define the notion of creativity and there are a variety of interpretations. Because of differences of definitions and characteristics of creativity, it is challenge to define creativity. According to Poincaré, creative acts occurred not in the process of doing unless combinations but in the period of useful combinations and small minority (Sriraman, 2004). Creativity also plays vital roles in mathematics. Lack of the definition of mathematical creativity has encouraged many of scholars in order to define it. To identify creative acts and creative potential is a challenge (Mann, 2009). Most of researches on the identification of creativity in mathematics focalize to make the development measuring creativity and to create instruments for such measurements. Current instruments made the measurement and exploring relationship between mathematical creativity and mathematical achievement, attitude towards mathematics, self-perception of creative ability, gender, and teacher perception of mathematical talent and creative ability. Because of that many...

...Creativity Date- 2016-01-22 Creativity is a way to give name to one’s own ideas. It is a journey of imagination from mind to get into the real world by the means of different phenomenon. Creativity means birth of imagination. Creativity is producing your ideas and work on them. Creativity is everywhere in everyone. But confidence and trust is needed to be creative. ...The ability to create or discover something that is novel and has some value for the society is called creativity. For example, the discovery of penicillin is formulation of the concept of relativity, creation of television, Tagore's work Gitanjali and the link are acts of creativity. The definition of creativity stated that something that is created should be novel and of some value. Novel means the unusual nature of the thing that is created whether it is penicillin, the concept of relativity or Gitanjali. The emphasis is on the production of something new. Equally important is the value which means that products of creativity should be of some value to human beings. Creativity can bring forth new products and procedures, remedy conflict and even create opportunity where none exists. Thus, creativity is and always be the most valuable asset. In general, every person is creative to a certain extent. However, everyone does not have the same ability to come up with better ideas provided by a more economical use of time. It is fine to have the ability to count on our creative subconscious for an occasional idea or solution. But to develop spontaneous creativity, we need to do away with assumptions, boundaries and unspoken rules, which are taken for granted. Often, finding a creative solution to a problem requires a creative look at the definition of the problem in hand. Hence, we need to look and think of the problem in different ways and from different angles before we start...

...Creativity Pilar Melillan HUM/266 May,27 2010 Dr.Raphael A. Mizzell Creativity "To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.” Henri Bergson A creative self-analysis paper is an opportunity to develop and remembered great deal of experiences about think how to generate new uses for outdated items. To answer a statement, such as what makes one creative and in what ways one demonstrate creativity, one would say that recognizing creativity on every detail and aspect of personal life is an example of it. For instance, how to place objects around de house, the different food combinations we prepare, how we dress, and how one-resolve daily tasks are the basic ways to demonstrate how creative we are. In addition, what makes us creative? One would say that just being alive is to be creative. We need to think how to do or resolve circumstances almost at each step we take. We need to figure out how to rearrange previous situations to propose new solutions. To offer new uses for old objects one must use imagination; to expand one’s talent and improve on natural skills one must have the drive of inventiveness; as a person learn how to work or apply different techniques, one becomes resourceful. Competent, expert, and knowledgeable individual will propose or produce unconventional solutions and new uses for conventional items. On the other hand, differences between being creative, which...

...Creativity can be defined as an idea or solution to a problem or situation which is original and distinctive to other work to which can be compared (Runco, 2004). It affects many varying domains that play a substantial role in society e.g. business, innovation, arts, sciences and education (Simonton, 1997). The concept of creativity was not fully recognised until the practical developments of man aided with the economy and also the standard of living –for example the invention of the steam engine and the telephone (Sternberg and Kaufman, 2010). However, it wasn’t until the late 18th century that ‘imagination’ was accepted independently as the leading factor in creativity (Engell, 1981). Many psychologists believe that the imagination is limited due to both internal and external factors that I shall outline in my essay. Cognitive processes and knowledge are fundamental factors when attempting to comprehend creativity. It is generally agreed that obtainable knowledge greatly contributes to creativity, and the quality of creative thoughts are affected by a person’s knowledge and the way in which the aspects of this knowledge is processed (Munford and Gustafson, 1988). Some psychologists believe that there is a threshold level that above an IQ of approximately 120, there is a strong association between IQ and creativity, but above that level this hypothesis is not supported (MacKinnon, 1961). A low IQ suggests that a person would struggle with creativity – regarding both the...

...Creativity in schools Traditionally the role of teachers has been to tell students what they need to know and then evaluate how well they have learned this. Student´s role has been relatively passive. This approach does not leave much room for creative or critical thinking and does not allow learners to take full responsibility for their learning. With the paradigm shift in education, creativity has become more valued. The modern world is changing quickly and a person who can think creatively and find innovative solutions for everyday problems can adjust more easily. This essay describes very broadly only a few of the factors that influence student creativity in schools. There is no standard definition of creativity. However, the main two criteria are the singularity and usefulness of the creative activity’s result. Creativity has been grouped into two main categories: Big-C Creativity and little-c creativity. Big-C encompasses mostly people with very unique talents and/ or skills (Mozart, etc) and scientific discoveries, paradigm shifts, etc. Little-c is a term for a much more widespread kind of everyday creativity. For example finding new ways to use ordinary items. A more specific example: turning a car into a sauna. Little-c creativity is the kind of creativity that everyday life in schools should pay attention to and develop. The type of thinking that is associated with creativity, is divergent thinking. It often happens spontaneously and generates lots of ideas...

...Find your dream What is creativity? Most people associate creativity with music, art, and writing. Some people describe creativity as a process of producing new tools, services, or creating something original.. Creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson introduces his idea of creativity through people’s misconceptions. First, Robinson suggests that creativity does not correlate only to “special people”; who have extraordinary or unique natural capabilities. Robinson holds the view that creative people are individuals who have achieved high levels of performance throughout their life. Moreover, Robinson suggests that creativity doesn’t have to be associated with particular activities such as the arts. He states, “Scientists, technologists, business people, educators, anyone can be creative in the work they do.” Additionally, he claims that in business people frequently equate creativity to problem solving skills. Yet, Robinson states, “Creativity can be as much a process of finding problems as solving them.” After reflecting on the traditional beliefs regarding creativity, the author establishes his own definition which is “Imaginative processes with outcomes that are original and of value.” He says that any creative process has to have outcomes or products that are novel and unique. In order to approach a new product or give rise to creative insights, Robinson suggests incorporating prior experiences and ideas into a new form, and looking at opportunities from different angles...

...The creativity of man Abstract emotion is what separates man from animal. Humans are special. Just as nature exists naturally, so does our ability to feel emotion and so comes people's ability to love. With love will come the ability to feel lonely. Only Humans know that they are alone and Solitude becomes one of the greatest fears in life. Human;s natural existence revolves around communion. While emotion makes us special, human construct also is an ability that separates us from any other animal. Society and its concept is a creation of people. The idea of money and the financial world is all made by man. It is powerful and what makes our world move the way it does, but this does not mean a financial oriented world is the best way or ideal way to live. Living this way is not the right way. What this only brings is conformity and stress and creates a bleak and deadened world of a narrow spectrum of paths to take. Creativity is lost and however much money you have, money will not be anything without humanitarian world to support it. Money is not enjoyable without artistry and constructed beauty. It will value nothing, and values nothing compared to the vast imagination. The New York public schools system is planning to cut the humanities program from schools to bring up the deficiency in the more important fields such as “mathematics” and other core classes. While doing so may bring more knowledge in those fields, if one sees the bigger picture, it is only hurting our country...

...In your own experience, how has your creativity developed through using digital technologies to complete your coursework productions? Creativity has been defined in several different ways by various media theorists. In 1997, Bentley explained creativity as ‘The making of the new and rearranging of the old’. This is something that throughout the course of the project from the preliminary tasks to the main products I have been able to do. At the start of the course, we analysed the contents pages and front covers of college magazines and had to create our own original college magazine. However, despite creating a new product, we still had to take inspiration and follow codes and conventions from the college magazines we had previously looked at. This included looking at the colour schemes and house styles generally used in college magazines, as well as the fonts, the placement of text and objects on the page and the content to try and create a product that looked new and interesting, whilst still conforming to the norm of what a college magazine typically looks like. I used the colours red and yellow, which I believed as primary colours, if used correctly would look ‘peppy’ and suitable for a college magazine, which I accented with black and white to keep the overall look more simple as unlike music magazines which generally appear to be cluttered, the content on college magazine covers is scattered sparingly. As a result of this, our work could be an example of using pastiche...

...Does creativity always lead to innovation both at individual and organizational level? If Yes, how and If Not, Why Not? I would have to say not all of the time. The effects of today’s work environment means that organizations need to improve their competitive advantage and quickly respond to the changing technology and the markets. An organization’s ability to continuously innovate its services and products is essential to its success. However, the ability to promote innovation is highly dependent upon those potential ideas and solutions you’ve found to address the problem. Continuous innovation means that organizations have to be able to manage their creative processes effectively to ensure the innovation process has a good supply of ideas and solutions. “We would need actual evidence on the creativity levels in the population to know if, in fact, these aspects that seem to be incrementing people’s creative capacity are actually doing so. This is, of course, a very complicated challenge and there might be several reasons not to pursue such a project. But, specifically in education, such a project might be worthwhile. Assessment of creativity in education might be beneficial in providing an adequate incentive to the system to actually promote creativity, and to be able to monitor progress. Creativity needs to be measured taking into account its complexity and multidimensionality. Certain indicators at the aggregate level presented above can be seen as proxies of domain and...

Idea Generation techniques, evaluate and choose the best. Creativity can be defined as the ability to develop news ideas and a new way of looking at problems and seeing them as opportunities. Innovation is then applying these creative solutions to enhance the lives of people. These concepts are important to businesses as firms that are classified as being innovation, show 7.4% higher profits. The 7-stage process is as follows; 1. Preparation: Involves essentially gaining knowledge of different fields, cultures, and countries. Reading, travelling, studying and listening, can do all this. “Creativity favours the prepared mind” 2. Investigation: this involves getting an in depth understanding of a particular field. For example if you are developing apps and games, you would want to have an extensive knowledge of programming in order to develop an idea which brings something new and innovative to the table. 3. Transformation: Involves spotting differences and similarities between certain things. Convergent thinking involves spotting the similarities and these combined can often make a better product/ service. A middle ground between concepts may be the most effective. 4. Incubation: this involves walking away from the problem or task and allowing your mind to subconsciously soak in everything...
