...Running head: CRIME DATA COMPARISON PAPER Crime Data Comparison Paper Willie Clark University of Phoenix Crime Data Comparison Paper In this paper, I will take a caparison look at the crime index for two metropolitan areas in the United States using statistical information provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Uniform Crime Report posted yearly will display the two geographical areas I choose to compare for the study is Memphis and Nashville TN. I will compare the violent crime of murder rate for Memphis versus the Property index rate for burglary for Nashville and how the two, which are just two, and half-hours apart vary so differently. A little history on the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting or UCR created in 1992 and the International Association of Police Chiefs is credited for its influences dating back to the 1920s to push for complete crime statistic yearly in order to combat the increasing crime rate. In the Uniform Crime Reporting system, there are seven main categories identified, manslaughter and non-negligent murder, burglary, aggravated assault forcible rape, larceny, arson, and motor vehicle theft. The Uniform Crime Report first was in January 1930, the UCR reported 400 cities throughout 43 states, covering more than 20 million individuals, approximately 20 percent of the total United States population. The city of Memphis is in the southwest portion of the state of TN. The city has a population as of September...

...City Demographics and Crime Profile Social learning theory considers the formation of an individual’s identity to be a learned response to what a person has been raised around or adapted to. In Memphis, Tennessee, many people within this state are influenced to criminal behavior at a very young age. According to WREG Memphis Channel 3 news, Memphis was only just ranked below Detroit and Oakland, California, but the Chair of the Crime Commission Ben Adams said he isn't sure how accurate the rankings are. Cordarro Vaughn's a lifelong Memphian, and he was anything but surprised when he heard the FBI labeled Memphis the third most dangerous city in the country (Rufener,Katie, 2015). When we talk about events or attitudes to a explanation of beliefs people reside in Memphis, Tennessee would accept for explaining criminal behavior, it points out the general connection of socialization opposed to the individual mindset. The social learning theory believes that an individual’s identity is not the product of the unconscious, but instead is the result of modeling oneself in response to the expectations of others. Behaviors and attitudes develop in response to reinforcement and give hope to the people around them. While social learning theorists acknowledge that childhood experience is important, they also believe that the identity people is formed by the behaviors and attitudes of others. Another factor that contributes to Memphis crime rate is that much of the crime is the product of...

...Crime Data Comparison GEN 314: Criminology March 9, 2015 Crime Data Comparison study within two Tennessee Metropolitan Cities Utilizing the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR), this paper will compare burglary crime statistics between two metropolitan cities within Tennessee. This paper will discuss which area had more reported burglary incidents, what were the rates of crime for each area, did the rates change over time in either area, and what factors might explain the differences in the rates. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting The FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program was created by the FBI in 1929 as an official crime data-gathering program covering the entire United States. It was developed from a national initiative by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), whose goal was to develop a set of uniform crime statistics for use by police agencies and policymakers (Schmalleger, 2012, p.235). Under the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting program burglary is defined as an unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or theft. The use of force to gain entry does not have to occur to be classified as an offense to burglary. Additionally, burglary is broken into three sub classifications: forcible entry, unlawful entry where no force is used, and attempted forcible entry. A “structure” is defined as an apartment, barn, house trailer or houseboat when used as a permanent dwelling, office, railroad car (but not an automobile)...

...Executive Summary This report was composed to examine the demise of the sense of community in the City of Memphis. The communities in the City of Memphis are in distress due to the breakdown of family values, which are derived from the matriarchs. Currently, there is a need for women of all ages to get assistance with handling issues that sometimes affect the general overall health – mentally, physically and emotionally. Sometimes circumstances and forces beyond one’s control may put a female in a position of desperation and give her a feeling of solitude. Through “Reach One, Teach One, Girls United Across the World” outreach program, the goal is to provide a place where girls and women of all ages can and will join together to share their lives (both the successes and failures) with one another as a chain linked support system. The dynamics of this program will help with the difficulties faced and will assist each one of them with overcoming overwhelming and dismal obstacles, through a stringent support system. The objectives of this program will be to deliver direction and provide quality educational and training programs which will effectively meet the challenging needs of the participants within the program. These objectives will then, in turn, provide participants with the opportunity to make themselves more confident and effectively armed with tools that will help them become better citizens. The cost of implementing the programming will be dependent upon private...

...Appeal Process 1 Appeal Process James Green July 27 2014 CJS/220 Kenneth Breiden Appeal Process 2 When the appeal process starts it is when a case is brought before the higher courts, with the hopes of having the judge overthrow the lower courts rulings set forth by a judge or verdict of the case. In any appeal case both the prosecutor and defense has the right to appeal a case. In any case there must be sufficient evidence and legal grounds for defendants to appeal any conviction. A person who has be acquitted of a crime can not have an appeal filed against them, although the prosecutors can be filed for different charges filed against the accused. A person can not be charged with the same charge twice this will be considered double jeopardy. For example the George Zimmerman trial, George Zimmerman was acquitted on all criminal charges filed against him, but since there was such public outraged over the verdict the government tried to charge Zimmerman with other charges. The appeal process is part of the checks and balances system, which ultimately determine how they are factored into the criminal procedures and process. This system would be defined to allow are parties their legal rights, when it comes to due process in the first stages of the legal system process. Appeals can be considered ways of pursuing goals in specific cases, that can ultimately lead to law being changed based on decisions placed by the court. There are many ways...
