...The beauty in literate and film is the ability of the artist to mold themes and motifs to fit unusual circumstances and even give them multiple layers. The skill of applying a common trope to not just one obvious character but many within the narrative allows the story to relate to the human experience on a deeper level. Perhaps the most commonly explored trope is that of “sins of the past” specifically their effect on several generations. Director Guillermo del Toro represent this theme in his movie Crimson Peak through not just one main character but two, as well as through other unsuspected ones. Fully depicting the idea that everyone has sins and while the effects my not be felt immediately they will eventually effect someone or something....

...From visionary director Guillermo Del Toro, comes 'Crimson Peak' (2015) a very welcome return to an old school type of horror story, the Gothic Romance. starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston. It is early 20th Century and In the outcome of a family catastrophe, aspiring author, Edith Cushing (Wasikowska), falls in love with a mysterious figure by the name of Thomas Sharpe (Hiddleston), an aristocrat from Allerdale Hall. Moving to a decaying English mansion, Edith is followed by the ghouls and demons of her past that warned her as a child of the enigmatic 'Crimson Peak' all the whilst becoming cautious of her newly wedded husband and his devious sister (Chastain). The first thing to note about this film is just how aesthically pleasing it is. The beautiful cinematography coupled with the gothic mise en scène creates picturesque moments out of every frame. The visual contrast between each act of the film is also very well distinguished. The film opens up with stunning landscapes and architecture which reflects the class and sophistication of the characters present, akin to a Jane Austin novel or Shakespeare production. As the film progresses and character motivations are revealed the cinematography becomes much more low-key and darkly atmospheric. The use of red takes up a considerable amount of the colour scheme connotating the death, evil and destruction that lay in Edith's path. Snow is also used often to create a contrast with the red, this works...

...Gifts By Logan Tueller 1995 I have no memory of this gift. The day I was born, my mother gave me the best gift I still can’t begin to comprehend. She brought me into this world and for that reason, this is the best gift of my life. 1998 This is one of the earliest memories I remember. The day I received my best friend for years to come. My dear stuff animal lamb, which I consequently named Lamby. This present is among the most treasured I can remember and I still have that soft as tissue paper lamb in my room. 1999 Christmas is the best time for kids to receive the dream gift they have wanted all year. This year is when I got all my toy-like desires met. My dad and older sister always liked to play with my new things so I unwrapped everything and left all the toys in the box for five weeks and looked upon them with excitement and yet I had no desire to play with them. 2000 First remembered trip to Hawaii that I ever took. This trip I received my first skateboard which I had developed a newfound interest in since watching my cousins skateboard on their assorted ramps. I also learned how to surf on this trip which made me who I am today. 2002 At seven years old, nothing interests boys more than war and guns. This is the Christmas when I was given a Red Rider pellet gun and a tool belt so my life from then on consisted of breaking things and shooting things. 2005 I have been fishing before this time but my father and I packed up early and went to...

...I presented to Home Depot at 10930 New Halls Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63136. I observed the signage outside of the building were old and faded for the grills that were on display. I proceeded to look at electric stoves that had the orange sale signs. There was a lady on the...

...Stinky Stick Yesterday has passed but the more I see it, the longer it lasts. Whenever I see a stick, I could remember one of the most embarrassing experiences in my life. One day, in grade school, our teacher scolded us with her long stick pointing us. Trying to escape her angriness, I remained silent, imagining if I would be a fairy and would turn her into frog to stop like the one in fairy tales. Later, in the midst of my imagination, she lent me her stick and be the little teacher. Anxiously, I thought she was going to eat me! Hours passed and I felt like I was going to urinate so I asked permission to go out but she couldn’t hear me. Since she strictly told us that no one would go out unless permitted. I asked and asked and asked yet she never answered. Seriously, deaf or no care at all? I couldn’t help myself anymore. I gripped on the stick like a lizard and my body seemed to be drifting in a flow of current. My legs began to shake. “God, what am I going to do?” To soothe my agitation, I put it between my legs then ooh my goodness! My sphincter muscles could not carry it any longer. Suddenly, already I felt my mess flowing in the floor. Wet! The stick got stinky. I was like a star that day, the centre of attraction of my classmates’ big eyes, but really I wasn’t. I was in an unfavourable, wet and stinky skirt, socks, shoes and stick....

...The boy’s arm was wreathed in red flame. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!” A wordless scream escaped the boy’s mouth. So hot – there was no room in his mind for anything but the heat, all thought being stolen by the crimson flame. He continuously rolled on the ground, attempting to extinguish the flame. Nearby, some children observed his pitiable state. I say children, but that belies the range of their ages. The smallest were young children of only four or five while the oldest were full-grown teenagers of fifteen or sixteen. Their sole common denominator could be seen on their faces. Scorn. This group of children joyfully surrounded the burning youth, laughing with mirth. An unfeigned laughter that came from the heart. Innocent. Naive. Cruel. The cruelty of a child who cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Like children who pluck off the wings of a dragonfly just to watch it struggle, they enjoyed the youth’s predicament as he painfully struggled the same way. “Pathetic”, said a boy who seemed to be the eldest among all.”Are you one of us?”. “You are a disgrace to Agres bloodline”.He raised his right arm and on his hand a ball of flame was formed. Suddenly water was thrown on the boy. “Stop it. That’s enough”, the owner of this voice was a beautiful girl. She stood in front of the boy protecting him with her body.“How dare you pick on someone who is weak?”.The boy had lost his conscious. “Are you alright? “asked the girl who was applying bandages...

...1. What was the result? Did you meet your design brief? If yes, refer to your design brief and explain specifically what you did that made you successful. If not, explain in detail, why you didn’t meet it. The result was half way. We didn’t reach the area. Our onager was using weight, and the first time, our pillar was not strong enough, so it broke the first time, so we changed our design brief, to add more wood on the pillar, and we tested it, it was strong enough to handle our long stick, but the problem after we change our pillar will be it can’t shoot far. The problem is the stick was too long and it need really heavy weigh in order to shoot far, but if we use too much weigh to shoot it far, then we will be not able to stop the stick at an angle in order to not let it just shoot the ball to the ground, if the stick is too long, we won’t be able to stop it at an angle, if it is too short, it won’t able to shoot far, I think this will be the main reason our or onager was not successful. 2. What worked well for you during this project? What would you do differently next time if given the chance? The stiffness of our onager will be the best worked I have done, after we tested the first time, I added many nails at all the important palaces, after, our onager won’t even break if we throw it. Also the base was very strong, never breaks. The things I will do differently next time will be I will chose to use rope instead of weight, weight is very hard to stop at an...

...Our Outperform expectation is even more compelling in 2016 given the spread widening that the sector experienced in the last six months, as the sector fundamentals remain strong. Another record year of auto sales is predicted and even if we do see declines from cyclical production peaks, breakeven profitability levels have been materially lowered, allowing both OEMs and suppliers to be highly profitable at cycle volumes well below what is forecast. The sector has engaged in prudent balance sheet management since the peak of the crisis; likely issuance (which will be biased to refinancing) should find more-than-adequate demand. M&A could inject some headline risk, and VW is still a wildcard that could cause a bout of spread weakness. We would see such volatility as presenting an opportunity, however, given the solid underpinnings of the Auto Sector storage. The positive side of the sector's story is its still strong credit quality even if the group did see some modest deterioration on that from increased M&A and pockets of end-market weakness. They're not bulletproof, however, and there are still a number of sources of potentially negative headline risk that we expect to be at play out in the coming year. Additionally, even if the economy does perform to consensus. we expect the expansion will be reliant upon the US domestic consumption story and it will be heavier going in the global arena in which the manufacturing conglomerates compete, particularly as regards to economic...

...According to AJ McCarron, The starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson tide from 2011 to 2013, college football players should be paid because “In some way they’re (The NCAA) taking advantage of college athletes that sign their name to a certain school.” A few other reasons college football players should be paid is that they could get hurt and might not have enough money to get a good start on life after college, colleges have extra money for equipment, coaches, and fields, and college football players spend a lot of time playing their sport and don’t have time to get a full-time job. One reason that college football players should be paid is that they could get hurt and might not have enough money to get a good start on life after college. Health. US News says Former college football players were more than twice as likely to have physical problems that limited their daily activities and exercise. Sixty-seven percent of these former athletes said they had suffered a major injury. (“For Many College Athletes, the Payoff Is Lifelong Disabilities: Study”). These players focus all of their time on football, sometimes forty hours a week, and they blow out a knee, or roll an ankle, ruining their chance in the NFL. Shouldn’t they at least have a little money to cushion them out of college and get them on their feet? That’s the first reason college...

...Success is not an eventual pinnacle. It is an odyssey that has multiple peaks, and at each peak one must strive to attain his goal and culminate his efforts into something fruitful. Different people have myriad opinions about success. Some relate it with money, some with power. However, for me “success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best, to become the best of that you are capable of becoming.” It consists in being content with what you do!! Success is something one assembles from components he discovers in his soul and his imagination. It can be achieved by knowing, understanding, believing in oneself, and executing the apposite actions required to achieve it. “The truth is that all of us attain the greatest success and blithe possible in this life whenever we use our native capacities to their greatest extent.” “Do not aim for success if you want it! Just do what you love and believe in, and…it will come naturally.” Sorrowfully, success has been commercialized with fame and popularity. “The common idea that success spoils people by making them vain, egotistic, and self-complacent is erroneous; on the contrary it makes them-for the most part- humble, tolerant, and kind.” Setbacks also help in achieving success. It is very aptly said that discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success. Multi-faceted success doesn’t lie in not...
