A Russian leader Radchenko, has gained control of a missile base and threatens to start bombing the United States of America. The USS Alabama is armed with nuclear missiles and sets out to stop this attack. As the submarine travels toward Russia many ethical dilemmas unfold. The overall dilemma of the Crimson Tide is that the Alabama receives an Emergency Action Message, ordering the launch of its missiles. Intel from satellites show that the Russian missiles are being fueled for deployment. The boat begins the process to launch ten missiles. During this time a second radio message begins to be received, but is cut off by the attack of a Russian...

...According to AJ McCarron, The starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson tide from 2011 to 2013, college football players should be paid because “In some way they’re (The NCAA) taking advantage of college athletes that sign their name to a certain school.” A few other reasons college football players should be paid is that they could get hurt and might not have enough money to get a good start on life after college, colleges have extra money for equipment, coaches, and fields, and college football players spend a lot of time playing their sport and don’t have time to get a full-time job. One reason that college football players should be paid is that they could get hurt and might not have enough money to get a good start on life after college. Health. US News says Former college football players were more than twice as likely to have physical problems that limited their daily activities and exercise. Sixty-seven percent of these former athletes said they had suffered a major injury. (“For Many College Athletes, the Payoff Is Lifelong Disabilities: Study”). These players focus all of their time on football, sometimes forty hours a week, and they blow out a knee, or roll an ankle, ruining their chance in the NFL. Shouldn’t they at least have a little money to cushion them out of college and get them on their feet? That’s the first reason college...

...football program at a very high level. Their cross-state rival, Auburn University, is located in Auburn, Alabama. With a recent National Championship win in 2010, Auburn University was ready to be a formidable opponent to the University of Alabama in the next few years. However, in the 2012 season the University of Alabama overpowered Auburn University in every aspect of the game. In the 2012 football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide fished the season number one in the AP poll and came home with a National Championship. The Crimson Tide ended the season with an almost perfect 13-1 record (7-1 in the SEC). The Tide’s only loss that season came to Texas A&M, a top SEC team led by their Heisman quarterback. The University of Alabama had nine players selected in the NFL draft with three players coming in the first round after the 2012 season. Alabama kept all of its coaches from this previous season. Nick Saban returned to the Tide in 2012 for his sixth season and finished with his third national championship. The recruiting class for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide ranked number one in the nation in 2012. The class had a total of 13 players recruited in the ESPNU 150 which 3 would start for Alabama. The Auburn Tigers, Alabama’s most hated rival, on the other hand ended the 2012 football season in embarrassment to the school and fans. The Tigers completed the season with a humiliating 3-9 record (0-8 in the SEC) and didn’t even make a bowl game appearance. This was the worst season...

...Nick Saban If Nick Saban were running a company instead of a football program, he would be a top manager. Alabama football is big business, and it will continue to get bigger under Saban. “In 2006, the year before he arrived in Tuscaloosa, the athletic department brought in $67.7 million in revenue, mostly from football, and spent $60.6 million. Last year revenue was $124.5 million and expenditures were $105.1 million -- leaving a $19.4 million profit, according to figures compiled by USA Today. During Saban's tenure, Alabama has expanded the capacity of Bryant-Denny Stadium from 92,000 to 101,000, including the addition of new luxury (i.e., more expensive) seating”(O'Keefe, 2012). It was an obvious decision for the school to give him a two-year contract extension along with a significant raise earlier last year. With a salary package that averages $5.6 million a year over the next eight years, Saban is among the highest paid coaches in college football. “Nick Saban, the undisputed emperor of college football, has everything he could ever want in Tuscaloosa: Three national titles in four seasons; a great shot at another one a year from now; the best players; no static from anyone, including the browbeaten reporters who cover him; and the whole world kissing his feet”(Silver, 2013). Nick Saban is no doubt one of the best college football coaches in America. His passion, work ethic, persistence, and humility have got him to where he is today. These characteristics started when...

...Gifts By Logan Tueller 1995 I have no memory of this gift. The day I was born, my mother gave me the best gift I still can’t begin to comprehend. She brought me into this world and for that reason, this is the best gift of my life. 1998 This is one of the earliest memories I remember. The day I received my best friend for years to come. My dear stuff animal lamb, which I consequently named Lamby. This present is among the most treasured I can remember and I still have that soft as tissue paper lamb in my room. 1999 Christmas is the best time for kids to receive the dream gift they have wanted all year. This year is when I got all my toy-like desires met. My dad and older sister always liked to play with my new things so I unwrapped everything and left all the toys in the box for five weeks and looked upon them with excitement and yet I had no desire to play with them. 2000 First remembered trip to Hawaii that I ever took. This trip I received my first skateboard which I had developed a newfound interest in since watching my cousins skateboard on their assorted ramps. I also learned how to surf on this trip which made me who I am today. 2002 At seven years old, nothing interests boys more than war and guns. This is the Christmas when I was given a Red Rider pellet gun and a tool belt so my life from then on consisted of breaking things and shooting things. 2005 I have been fishing before this time but my father and I packed up early and went to...

...Growing up in the south, you learn were known for one thing: football. Football is way of life here that’s passed down from many generations. When the name Paul “Bear” Bryant is said I can’t help but think of “ambassador” to college football of his era. The question that came to my mind was what do I exactly know about Paul “Bear” Bryant? I knew he was the University of Alabama football coach who built a dynasty in his tenure there, but what truly did he accomplish and what made him a leader of his generation? Paul “Bear” Bryant was born a leader. I was intrigued he earned the nickname, “Bear” at a young age by agreeing to wrestle a bear from a traveling circus (bio.com). This showed his bravery and courage to never back down from a challenge at a young age in life which is something a great leader must possess. While playing football at Alabama, Bryant made the decision he wanted not only to be a head coach, but "a great head coach,” and believed there were no shortcuts to success (Mink). Bryant accomplished many astounding aspects as a college football coach after his football career. He won six national championships for the University of Alabama (1964, 65, 67, 73, 78, 79). In his 38 year coaching career, he only had one losing season that ended with a then college football record of 323 victories. He won 15 conference championships and was named College Football Coach of the Year three times (bio.com). Bryant was also awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Ronald...

They also had broken merchandise toward the back. I entered the store and there was no greeter at the front door. There were opened snack sitting placed at the sitting area for the greeter but the floor area was clean. I chose to look for a new stove and proceeded to that area. I did not see any workers on the way to the appliance area. Once I arrived in the appliance area they did have colorful signs and balloons that caught my attention to the sale they were having. I proceeded to look at electric stoves that had the orange sale signs. There was a lady on the...

...Master Diver Diving Equipment Open circuit demand scuba is the most commonly used by recreational divers, but closed circuit and semi-closed rebreathers are now available. Test Pressure: the pressure to which the cylinder is subjected to during hydrostatic testing. For a 200 bar cylinder it is 300 bars, for a 232 bar cylinder it is 348 bars. If internal inspection reveals corrosion, it may have to be cleaned by tumbling. The tumbling process involves filling the cylinder approximately half full of an abrasive material such as carbide chips, or aluminum oxide chips, and rotating it for a number of hours. A dual valve for a single cylinder, known as a Y-valve, or an H-valve, allows a diver to mount 2 regulator systems on a single cylinder. The first stage reduces cylinder pressure to an intermediate pressure (or low pressure) of approximately 90-150 psi (6 to 10 bar). The second stage reduces the intermediate (low) pressure to ambient pressure. Because of their tendency to fail in a closed position, upstream valves are rare in modern scuba regulators. In a Balanced Valve regulator the operation of the regulator is independent of the cylinder or applied pressure. (Breathes the same at low tank pressure) The internal valves of scuba regulator first stages are available in 2 basic types, diaphragm and piston. The main valve of a Pilot Valve regulator is opened and closed with air pressure, rather than mechanical leverage. Some regulators may...

...Tides and the Moon Name AST/101 Date Teacher Tides and the Moon I was recently tasked with examining the relationship between the Earth’s moon and the Earth’s tides. I took that to mean literally: how are the tide levels of Earth’s bodies of water affected by the Moon? When approaching this question I want to do so with the scientific method in mind. The scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge (Goldhaber & Nieto, 2010). The scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments. It is also a good tool when we are searching for cause and effect relationships in nature. We already know the primary question being asked: How are the bodies of water on Earth affected by the Moon? To begin to answer our primary question we next ask: what causes tides? There are several kinds of tides. The ones that break upon a beach every 10 seconds to a minute are caused by sea level disturbances out in the ocean produced by such things as storms. Also the various circulation currents of sea water can have velocity components directed toward the land which will bring water up onto the beach. As this water travels toward the beach from deep water to shallow water, its amplitude will increase until it finally “breaks” as a full-fledged breaker, suitable for surfing, etc. Underlying this minute to minute activity is a slower...

...The Birds “… The vast quantity of birds flocking above towns, villages, and outlying districts, causing obstruction and damage and even attacking individuals”(du Maurier 68). The above statement is the plot which is presented in both the story and the film. The main plot is the same in both the story and the film. In the story and the film the birds attack with the tides. They rest on low tide and attack on high tide. Abnormal flocking patterns are also a common detail. This means that birds of prey are flocking with the birds that they are hunted by. In both the idea that women cannot handle stressful situations is presented. In the story Mrs.Hockens said to her husband “You’re no to go, you’re not to go and leave me with the children. I cant stand it” (du Maurier 85). “Her voice rose hysterically. He hushed her, calmed her“ (du Maurier85). In both the main characters go into their house to protect themselves but before they do that they board their houses for extra protection. Unfortunately in both the story and the film they did not do a good enough job boarding up their houses because the birds get into an upstairs room. The main character takes precautions like boarding up his house while many other characters don’t take the attacks seriously. “She’s another… Se doesn’t care” (du Maurier 75). While the story and the film have similarities there are more differences that present them self. One of the main differences would be that there is a completely different cast....

...BACKGROUND Both mangroves and salt marshes occur in the intertidal zone: the area between terrestrial land and open salt water. Areas above high water level are increasingly restrictive on growth, and although some mangroves persist they commonly diminish in size and are soon replaced by saltmarsh communities more tolerant of hypersalinity. PART 1: ABOITIC FACTORS The main abiotic factors that will determine the structure of the salt marsh community are the salinity of the soil, the water content in the soil and the substrate type. The impact these abiotic factors have on the structure is ultimately determined by the topography of the land. The unusual topography of the land determined the salinity concentrations in the soil: the land forms a shallow basin in the center and is surrounded by a slightly higher landform. When the salt marsh is rarely inundated, the water is drawn to the center of the ecosystem due to the abnormal topography of the land. During the process of evaporation, a majority of the water content is removed from the soil and transformed into water vapour, leaving behind highly concentrated salt sediment. Another key abiotic factor is the substrate type. According to the data collected, sites B and D have fairly low water content in the soil, while the remaining sites recorded a much high reading. The soil at sites B and D appeared dry, especially on the surface, and replicated fine grain sand – this particular substrate cannot retain a high water moisture...
