Finding the picture in a shoebox of me and my boyfriend, smiling, looking happier than ever, reminded me of July 4th 2017, the day I met Cristal G (not addressing full name for privacy purposes) , at the time a 17 year old West Roxbury High School junior who liked basketball, hanging out with friends, and playing video games. Cristal, mainly acknowledged as Chris, is 6ft tall, Portuguese and black and lives with 3 out of 5 siblings. He's very outgoing and can make friends with anyone that walks into room. He's comical and also very hard working. Chris is my inspiration considering the aspect that although he has had some rough and tragic events in his life and didn't exactly fit the qualifications of a “perfect life”, he was able to look past …show more content…
“I was tired… I had guns pointed in my face”. It was about 5am when the SWAT Team swarmed the Archdale Projects. Chris was asleep in bed when the SWAT Team broke down his front door with a battering ram, and rushed into his room with multiple flashlights and beams pointing his way. “ I thought they were going to violate me to be honest..” said Chris, since there was about 8 white male officers and 1 black male teenager in a 35 square foot room. “.. so I just did what they asked me to do. I was heated cause they pushed my face on the floor… knees on my back while I was cuffed up”. This caused Chris to be titled as a juvenile offender and detained in DYS for 5 months with a bail of $2,000. Throughout his experience in DYS he then realized how much of a negative impact his had on his life and decided to do something about …show more content…
Since he acknowledged and accepted that he had a rough start in life and went down the wrong path, he is able to show not only his younger siblings but his older sibling also that he is able to overcome what ever negative past he had, and focus on the positive present and future he is still trying to acquire. He does this by showing his siblings that he changed his life around by being engaged in school, sports, and work more now than he ever way. He says “ I realized when I got out that I didn't want my little brother following in the same path as me so i had to do something about

...LVMH: King of the Luxury Jungle SEPTEMBER 2009 Profit from temporary W&S woes to bag the stock at discount prices LVMH is the strongest player in the luxury goods industry, a giant in an industry where fixed costs make scale paramount; the only "two-legged" balanced player, leading with mega-brands in both Leather Goods and Wines & Spirits; enjoying stable group EBIT margins as a consequence Champagne consumer demand weakness, de-stocking and oversupply in 2010 are well understood; W&S concerns have depressed the stock close to 20-year trough multiples and in the same range of smaller and more volatile hard luxury players and other peers; an opportunity in our view On top of LVMH's unrivaled industry position, markets seem to under-appreciate cost-saving opportunities, brand-portfolio rationalization, higher FCF from lower W&S inventory investment, above-average mega-brands' results or support from first-mover EM inroads In a medium-term growth environment, LVMH has the chance to be a key consolidator in the luxury goods industry: a mega-merger with CFR would be a strategic master stroke, placing it ahead of any M&A counter move by competitors SEE DISCLOSURE APPENDIX OF THIS REPORT FOR IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES AND ANALYST CERTIFICATIONS LVMH: KING OF THE LUXURY JUNGLE 1 Portfolio Manager's Summary We have few doubts about the opportunity of investing in LVMH for the medium to long term. Business Correspondence

...FOREWORD At no time during the last three or four decades have the communication skills of individuals in the business world come under closer scrutiny than today. And never before have those who work in the business world needed better, more effective communication skills. The emerging technology appears to be increasing, rather than decreasing, the need for effective communication skills. As more individuals have ready access to desk-top equipment to process written communication, fewer support personnel will be readily available to provide editing assistance. Therefore, welldeveloped communication skills among originators are more important to success than ever before. This book is suitable for several different audiences, including undergraduate and graduate students. The organization of this manual is a logic sequence of chapters including both business communication and correspondence. The first part is dedicated to business communication and the second to business correspondence. The special features found in this edition are: 1. Examples of effective letter writing. Studies have shown students studying written business communication can learn as much, if not more, from ineffective examples of written communication as they do from effective examples. 2. Varied application problems in the writing-oriented chapters. The number of problems has been increased. While the majority of problems require the writing of a letter or report, some are designed...

...Social Change and Modernity Edited By Hans Haferkamp and Neil J. Smelser UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA PRESS Berkeley Los Angeles Oxford © 1992 The Regents of the University of California INTRODUCTION Hans Haferkamp and Neil J. Smelser Haferkamp is grateful to Angelika Schade for her fruitful comments and her helpful assistance in editing this volume and to Geoff Hunter for translating the first German version of parts of the Introduction; Smelser has profited from the research assistance and critical analyses given by Joppke. 1. Social Change and Modernity Those who organized the conference on which this volume is based—including the editors— decided to use the terms "social change" and "modernity" as the organizing concepts for this project. Because these terms enjoy wide usage in contemporary sociology and are general and inclusive, they seem preferable to more specific terms such as "evolution" "progress," "differentiation," or even "development," many of which evoke more specific mechanisms, processes, and directions of change. Likewise, we have excluded historically specific terms such as "late capitalism" and "industrial society" even though these concepts figure prominently in many of the contributions to this volume. The conference strategy called for a general statement of a metaframework for the study of social change within which a variety of more specific theories could be identified. 2. Theories of Social Change Change is such an evident feature of...
