Nick Carraway moves to New York in hopes of finding a job there. Nick has connections in this town, like his cousin daisy, and her husband, Tom. He moves into a home next to a wealthy Jay Gatsby, an extravagant man who loves throwing ridiculous parties. As the summer progresses, Nick finally gets invited to one of these parties, where he learns Gatsby is in love with Daisy. Nick helps set up Daisy and Gatsby, and they start spending time together. To go along with this unique style, we see an unusual structure demonstrated throughout the novel. In William L. ...is never the finished product, the glass shattered for me. I love reading, it is my world, my passion, and my entertainment. After reading that essay I thought of my favorite author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and wondered how many drafts he had to write before “The Great Gatsby” was complete? I could visualize him sitting at a typewriter and cursing, wondering why his thoughts were not correctly translating on the pages. I found solace in this thought, and with this knowledge I began to write my first assignment on critical literacy and what it meant to me. Before I began writing the first draft of assignments, I would write down every thought that came to me on my topic. From that point, I would search each idea I had in tell my finished notes morphed into an abundance of data. Knowing that I had one idea out of many gave me a security net. Even having a plethora of topics did not ease the struggle of producing an essay. Similar to what Lamott described, writing even one sentence, feels like a North Korean torture tactic. Sadly, this is just the writing portion, this does not even begin to describe the anxiety felt over grammar, proper sentence structure, and correct MLA/APA formatting.
