Critical Thinking In The Workplace

There are several examples to pool from in recollection to personal experience of applying critical thinking to a work-related decision. The importance and the benefits of critical thinking in the decision-making processes have truly paid off in my career. Over the course of twenty years working in the Railroad Industry has given cause for many facets of the critical thinking processes.

The first significant decision that I can remember making was to apply into the locomotive engineering school. I used the method of critical thinking to analyze this situation carefully. I had already been employed with the railroad for five years when I went into program. I was given some stern recommendations against going to the school. At the time, there was a mandate to cut back employees. So, whoever did not pass this six-month class of school would be out of a job completely. Not only did the course require you to pass with a 90% or better there was a section on the test that missing one section would cause you to score below a 90. Having been employed with the railroad for eight years already made this a tough decision to follow through with. This of course, was the cause of concern for many who chose not to pursue the license. I used discipline to get through the course and I used reasoning and evaluation to convince myself this was a wise decision.

The second decision that I made for myself was to move yet again. I had already moved a total of six times before and now I had to decide if a seventh move was the best solution for my career path. The other six moves were all within the Southern States. This next move would be all the way across the United States to the state of California. I used the good reasoning and deducting skills of
