...Critical Thinking and Ethics Keisha Bruner Gen 201 2/29/16 Regina Miller Critical Thinking and Ethics There is always a balance with everything we do. There are steps and process we go through while deciding what we are going to do or say. Critical thinking is a process that best helps to break down an idea to decide whether it is reliable or even remotely accurate. In comes our ethics, were we use to help determine whether we as an individual have come to accept the response from our critical thinking. Both critical thinking and ethics have a codependent relationship that balance each other out at times when we need it. The Critical Thinking Process Critical thinking is the objective of an issue in order to form a judgement. According to my text book, it frees us from deception and half-truths. With doing that there of course is a process, and there are six steps to the critical thinking process. Step one is remembering, in this level asking yourself can you remember the key terms, facts or events. Step two is understanding, in this level you need to be able to explain an idea in your own words and summarize it. Step three is applying, in this level you need to be able to use the idea and produce a result with it. Step four is analyzing, in this level you need to able to divide the idea into parts, groups or steps. Step five is evaluating, in this level ask yourself if you can rate the truth, usefulness, or quality of the idea and give reasons...

...Critical Thinking Discussion & Summary Tina Cullors PHL/320 February 29, 2016 Bridget Peaco University of Phoenix Critical thinking is a way of making decisions both personally and professionally. Without critical thinking our decision making would all be knee jerk reactions and would cause chaos in your life. In discussion we will have identified what is critical thinking by identifying the premise and how we arrived to the conclusion. I define critical thinking as a process of how to analyze and evaluate the question, topic of conversation or situation, before forming an opinion or just reacting. Being able to make a clear judgment. A critical thinker is someone that does not make a conclusion on an instant with information presented. A critical thinker analyzes the information, and obtains necessary information to support the premise. Critical thinking is importation because you obtain an amount of information to make an argument that your find to be true that brings you to your conclusion with a convincing argument to justify your claim. I use critical thinking both in my personal and professional life. For example, if I am thinking of buying a new car I have to look at not how my decision will just impact my finances now but how my decision affects me long term; like can I afford to take money from my savings for the down payment and what will payment be for 36 or 48 months. As for my work when I am modernizing a school campus...

Fanger Sr. 06/27/11 There are many benefits and specific characteristics as well as important aspects to critical thinking and it has a direct impact on decision-making. In making decisions, the critical thinking process is important and your success and happiness in life will be increased by your ability to think critically. The process in which facts, information, and theories are gathered and analyzed is critical thinking. Effective decisions are made by using the critical thinking process. Critical thinking separates facts from opinions and also evaluates options, and is a valuable process which should be used by everyone. Critical thinkers demonstrate some characteristics such as courage, humility, empathy, integrity, and fair-mindedness. A critical thinker uses these characteristics to help them to make positive decisions that they will be happy about in the future. Critical thinkers know the limitations of their decisions when they are humble. Critical thinkers are also courageous enough to trust their own reasoning skills and they are empathetic enough to comprehend the weight of their decisions on others. Critical thinkers also hold integrity, which demonstrates honesty and realistic perception of end results. An important characteristic of critical thinkers is fair-mindedness...

...Critical Thinking Application Paper Laura Jones Mgt 350 January 10, 2010 Bill Shell Critical Thinking Application Paper A person uses critical thinking daily without realizing what he or she is doing. Critical thinking helps people make decisions, small or large. A person will use critical thinking on a personal level, such as buying a house or a car or even down to whether he or she should buy a shirt. In the business world, people will use critical thinking skills to make decisions that impact the company. As this paper progresses, I will be discussing what critical thinking is, the steps that are taken when using the critical thinking process, an example of how I used critical thinking in the workplace, and the benefits and importance of using critical thinking when making a decision. What is Critical Thinking? According to Dictionary.com critical thinking is defined as “the mental process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information to reach an answer or conclusion” (2010). Critical thinking in the ideal form is based on broad intelligent values that surpass situational division. By this I am meaning to make use of good critical thinking, one must use accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance to the situation, good reasoning, facts, and clarifying the situation (National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking, 2009). University of Phoenix has nine...

...information needed to base a decision on. In the first argument, one could say the trainer gets paid more than enough for his job as a trainer, and his cleaning the bathroom and gym to get extra compensation could be completely unwarranted. Also the amount of cleaning he is doing. If he only has to do small things and not much extra because of the size of the gym or frequency of use it might be possible all this “cleaning” could be very little extra. In the second argument the decision to buy a new car hinges on a few factors. Whether leasing or buying are the options, there are more options. They could buy a used car for a bigger discount if price is an issue. Sally wants safety for their children and Mark wishes for the car of his dreams, but there are more choices than just those two types of vehicles. Argument 3 misses one key factor when buying versus renting a home and that is location. This drives the prices either way up or reduces them. There are also other options for living than buying a house or renting an apartment. Argument 4 covers much of the important information needed in making the decision in which schooling is right for their children, however they do leave out one way of schooling and that is home schooling. This is very much an option for schooling children and more information on this option should be presented or made aware to the one deciding. The final argument addresses that Jenna is struggling in her class, but does not state how badly. Struggling could...

But overall I have more checks in this category then all the others. The category I feel I least resemble is the “open” category. I feel that I am not as joyous as I should be. I need to work on that. I am not very “open minded” and “unbiased” with a lot of different religions and maybe I need to work on that also. Also I wish I was more “patient”. Critical Thinking 1. ...Do you have what it takes to run a business Business owner’s discipline is the first critical element for success. It is important to launch a business, it is a basic requirement to prioritize objectives and it is fundamental to establish the appropriate cultural values in the company. Most consultants would agree that companies that did not get off the ground were due to discipline issues with the entrepreneur either on the planning stage or during the critical take off stage. It is almost impossible to launch a business without having the virtue of discipline, before starting up the entrepreneur needs to develop an idea and then evolve it into a business plan. The entrepreneur must then plan, conduct research, explore different alternatives, analyze different roads to follow and finally with a well developed plan he or she might launch the business. It is in this initial process where many entrepreneurs with little discipline get lost in the details because they deviate from the core business idea or simply because their lack of organization prevents them from making it to the business launch stage. A good friend of mine has been trying to leave his full time employment to open his business for almost two years, his practice is growing, he is well qualified, his clients are happy but somehow he has not been able to follow up his business plan to generate enough revenue to make it a real business. It does not take a genius to see that he starts lots of initiatives but he...

...who have needs that are distinctive in the way they deviate from the ‘average’ customer. Def ‘the identification of sub-sets of buyers within a market who share similar needs and who have similar buying processes’. There are many possible factors that might influence an individual’s choice of product/car (personalisation). The critical approach involves breaking down the ‘problem’ (how to persuade the customer to buy) into sub-problems. Criteria for effective segmentation…What is an appropriate basis for segmenting one market may not be appropriate to all markets. We consider 4 criteria when assessing the effectiveness of any segmentation: *usefulness to a company’s marketing planning; size of the resulting segments; their measurability; and their accessibility. This exercise is only useful to a company if it allows them to penetrate a greater proportion of its market that was not possible before taking out the exercise. Companies must be careful not to homogenise segments, as buyer views are always varied and diverse. Segment size-as they segments become smaller, you are closer to achieving marketing philosophy of satisfying each customers needs, but if they become too small they become uneconomic to provide for. In finance eg car insurance this is easier eg over 50, classic car driver. At the other end is a paint manufacturer, must be more general, amateurs, professionals, adventurous. Each line of product would take a lot of work in the production line, and persuasion...

...During previous generations, most individuals wedded and started families by the age of twenty-four. But today, many people are waiting until later in life to make critical life decisions such as starting a family, getting married and establishing a career. Consequently, by delaying such choices until a person's thirties, many argue that it may have an adverse effect on how a person's life turns out. Emphasized are the dilemmas twentysomethings face surrounding uncertainty; uncertainty of where to live, who to marry, and what career path to choose. However, the most favorable decade to make such decisions is during a person's twenties. The choices people make in their twenties do profoundly influence and shape their lives, by choosing to establish a career early on will enable a person to attain financial security comfortably and start the family they desire with stability promptly in life....

Our new line of Hybrids shows our corporate commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability. The following marketing programs outlines the ways in which Toyota will evaluate the macro-environment, determine a target market for the Hybrid line, as well as our plans for the product its self, a pricing strategy, our placement of the product as well as promotion efforts. One of the big questions is why? Why did we create this product; well it is simply because there was a massive demand for it. Oil prices are through the roof, and consumers do not want to spend their paychecks at the pumps. In 2008, there was a huge spike in the oil prices. This spike has temporarily decreased but oil prices are predicted to rise again soon. Both consumer households and government are demanding us to create a new product that is affordable and sustainable. Consumers are not only demanding this product from us, they are also demanding a change in the market; a change in the way companies are manufacturing their inventory. With the hybrid...

The standard answer is “the difficulty of evaluating the various solutions and choosing the best one.” In some cases, this may be true. But two other difficulties are equally troublesome: identifying problems and issues before they become crises, and getting beyond common, unoriginal solutions to creative ones. The first chapter in this part introduces the creative process. The other chapters expand this introduction, showing you how to search for challenges, express and investigate problems and issues, and produce many and varied solutions. By the end of Part II, you will have developed a proactive approach to problems and issues and learned how to stimulate your imagination. ...Relationships Synopsis Marketing is all about creating brands that connect with customers, and few marketers have done that as well as Nike. During the past several decades, Nike has built the Nike swoosh into one of the world’s best-known brand symbols. During the 1980s, Nike revolutionized sports marketing. It powered its way through the early 1990s, aggressively adding products in a dozen new sports, including baseball, golf, skateboarding, wall climbing, bicycling, and hiking. In the late 1990s, however, Nike stumbled and its sales slipped. Nike needed to rekindle the brand’s meaning to consumers. To turn things around, Nike returned to its roots: new-product innovation and a focus on customer relationships. This time, Nike shifted toward cutting-edge digital and social marketing tools to interact with customers to build brand experiences and community. Nike is now building communities of customers who talk not just with the company about the brand, but with each other as well. Thanks to efforts like Nike+, along with a host of other new digital and social media approaches, Nike has built a new kinship and sense of community with and between the brand and its customers. The company’s outstanding success results from much more than just making and selling good sports gear. It’s based on a deep-down connection between the iconic Nike brand and its customers. Discussion Objective This discussion will explore the essence and strength of the Nike brand, and the company’s ability...
