Critical Thinking There is often the problem of an emotionally charged argument when discussing ethics. Because of this, the ability to think critically on the presented subject becomes an important tool. When used effectively, this ability allows the individual to set aside any personal bias to the subject that would otherwise cloud their argument. An emotionally charged statement has the tendency to be accompanied by any number of differing fallacies that are irrelevant to the discussion at hand. These fallacies could very well damage your argument when the opposing side discovers and exposes them. These fallacies also do not help to advance your argument to the audience, but rather sends their attention to an topic that is irrelevant. Most people would argue that an individual’s ethics are learned simply through their experiences in life. I would have to agree with this determination in the idea that any experience that the individual would have, whether it is a physical, emotional, mental or community experience has some impact on how the individual chooses to view their environment. These experiences would start to form the basis of a person’s opinions and beliefs. For instance, a child’s ethical and moral views could be influenced by their parents while growing up. At first, this would form the basis of what the child would feel is the right way to think. As the child grows though, they could experience differing views from friends, teachers, mentors and even through mass media that might change what moral and ethical views they hold on to. These changes in views could also arise from taking a critical look at the views they currently hold, and finding that their reasoning for holding those views is flawed. Still even further, a physical experience could sway their views on a subject if the event is particularly traumatic. These examples show
