ABSTRACT:
This paper examines the impact of crowdsourcing on search result ranking by identifying the relation between crowdsourcing and web search. Here the question arise, what are the reasons that compel me to search this category i-e crowdsourcing and search result ranking. To me, it is very beneficial for us as student of computing to know about the relation of crowdsourcing with web technology. How much is impact-able if we add it as ingredient in our searching results for finding good webpages is understandable after reading this paper.
Crowdsourcing is a term coined by Jeff Howe in wired magazine to characterize a way of using groups to solve the problem [1].The groups are usually online communities, such as member s of a blog or a visitor of website. An organization broadcast the problem to the crowd as an open call for solution. The crowd submit solution, and then sort through them, find the best one.
The organization selects and owns the ultimate solution, and sometimes rewards members of the crowd. As this paper also explain the application aspect of crowdsourcing when it merge with web-technology.
KEYWORDS:
Crowdsourcing, WEB 2.0, Social networking.
INTRODUCTION:
The last two decades have seen dramatic revolution in information technology: not only in computer power, such as the processor speed, memory size and innovative interfaces, but also in the everyday use of computer. The 1990s was the decade of the World Wide Web, built over the physical infrastructure of the internet, radically changing the availability of information and making possible the rapid discrimination of digital information across the globe.
Web2.0 is heavily oriented toward content generation by people who collaborate and share their content and information. In web 2.0, the internet is dynamic and interactive environment and provides a place to user for sharing things, such as photographs, and makes them instantly available to friends and other family members [2].
WHAT IS CROWDSOURCING
Basically Crowdsourcing is the combination of two words “crowd” and “outsourcing”. Which means outsourcing process done by a large crowd? The advent of WEB2.0 was firstly introduce through a internet Forum user [1].Crowdsourcing shares its basic principles with web-based social media, Where user gets feedback from other users on the topic of their choice [2].Peculiar to crowdsourcing, however, is that it consist of an actual externalization of product or service sourcing to the crowd of internet users that respond to the call. [4]

Two elements characterize crowdsourcing: an open call and a crowd. Firms don’t rely on the single supplier or on a small number of supplier, but they launched an open call. The strength of this model is based on the open centrality that means :”Participation is non-discriminatory” [5].Not only individuals can participate but also other firm ,non-profit organizations or communities of persons that want to manage themselves accordingly [3].The crowd assume a dimension and relevance as consequence of the open call. Basically, the configuration of the call and of return varies according to the firms objective and the activity. But in the sense, Crowdsourcing follows always the following main lines [6].”The organization identifies an activity that it doesn’t want to perform internally, Rather than outsourcing is the older way, to a predefined supplier, it uses the crowd, So it post the condition on the internet platform(on a website, or a platform run by an intermediation society) and fixes the terms for the participation of the crowd(agenda , rewarded).”

CROWDSORUCING PROJECTS fig2: some famous crowdsourcing projects web2.o began with two important enabling technologies wikis and blogs, Both of these technologies contributed to the initial momentum behind web2.0 because of their collaborative nature, and they have so popular that they are commonplace even among non-technical users.
Wiki
A Wiki consist set of Logically related pages that enables collaborative content creation. User are empower to create new contents and updating existing content online, which provides the convenient way to record People’s ideas and suggestion.
Wikis provide a many-many functionality in the sense that(unlikely a blog) no-one is deem the owner of the page; any one can create the wiki page, and anyone can edit the page (or create new pages). Some distinct advantages to use wiki * Good for sharing information * Their informal nature make it easier for people to contribute * Strong version control * Easy for many people to edit the same page or create new one.
Blogs
Blogs first gained traction on the internet around 2001, and that time they were called “weblog”. However, that term was soon replaced by “blogs”, and the people who wrote the blogs became known as “blogger”. Each entry in a user’s blog is called blog post.
Bloggers often write their comment about the topic that interest them, and blogger can be as factual or as a opinionated as anyone else. Bloggers also provide a combination of links to other blog posts or articles, video clips or image [2] to make it content more valuable. You can find bloggers who write commentaries primarily about daily news, political instability events, social issues, entertainment and virtually any other topic. To cap it, all bloggers help re-searcher to find valuable contents of their needs in minimal time duration.
The quality and popularity of blog vary significantly among bloggers. The number of readers of any given blog can vary from a handful of people (e.g. friends and relatives) to hundreds of thousand or even millions of people. For example, according to the .guardian.co.uk/ the post popular blog in the world which get millions of visitor regularly is huffingtonpost.com

There are many blogging tools available, and you are virtually guaranteed to find one that fits your specific need. Two popular blogging tools are Google’s Blogger and Word Press. Blogger is an online blogging tool and you can create an account in a matter of minutes, after which you can immediately create blog post..
Several years after the blog became popular , a phenomena known as micro blogging appeared and gained the momentum. A micro blogging is a very short and concise blog post that is limited to 140 character and involve the short comment about specific event , which might be targeted to an individual or a group several blogging initiatives are available such as open micro Blogger, jakuand status.net [2].
Other Web Tools
There are several web tools /Product through which people collaborate and share their information which is a source of valuable information during finding good webpages like * YouTube * Flickr * Twitter * Facebook * Yelp * Slideshare * Amazon Mechanical Turk system * Elance.com
All above mention products are unique itself and provide free services for internet user. For example Flicker is photo sharing application and provides a set of APIs (including RSS and Atom feed) to access its contents. It provides a platform for their users to share their photograph across the world. [4].
Similarly Facebook and Twitter is social media sites through which people engage with each other through chatting, posting and sharing their photos and videos of their interest. Indeed, social media marketing can serve as a tool for building brand awareness, reaching consumer opinion and crowdsourcing [7]. Identifying opinion leader (known in social media as a influential), driving traffic to brand websites, spreading specific message virally, developing customer database, instilling credibility and trust in brand, and enhancing the brand image among others.
Crowdsourcing is a great example of the unique benefits that can accrued to brands that think creativity about the social media landscape. Crowdsourcing refers to mining the group of customer for product development ideas. [7]
SOCIAL BENCHMARKING
Bench marking is the method for saving links to Web pages to revise it latter [8]. Social benchmarking services allow users to store their bookmarks on the web instead of locally on their computers. The main advantage of social bookmarking to retrieve your webpage anywhere and shared with other people. If tags are used bookmarks can be categorized for searches. The social nature involves sharing them publicly, so other people can be viewed and save them, facilitating knowledge building. On many social bookmarking sites, where more than one user saves the same bookmark, it is then given a rank. The more user with the same bookmark, the higher the bookmark receives [8]. On the social bookmarking sites usually top five or ten are displayed on their home page.
Crowdsourcing in social benchmarking
Now days, social benchmarking software’s are using power of crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing has gained the wide spread acceptance as the number of people connected through the internet. In principle, it is mechanism through which task are accomplished by large number of people, instead of being assigned to a specific individual or a group of people. So, as more people provide input, ranking or support to some solution offered by the crowd. Companies are also learning how they can ge””harness new technology to mine the collective wisdom of the crowd-tapping in to the new levels of ideation and innovation, and solution finding schemas”.

SUMMARY
To cap it all, crowdsourcing provide the effective platform for search result ranking .This paper clearly identified the users by using web tools increase their awareness about services and product which make their searching effective.
In last The crowd participation give you an idea about which website is useful and which is not .For example during World cup everyone put comments on Facebook page about matches, uploading related clips and news which provide you links leads to understand which blog or website best for watching world cup.
