Culminating Field Experience: Final Reflection

Directions: Reflect on your professional journey. In an essay, describe the three most important things you have learned and will utilize during your first year of teaching. Also, reflect on your observations of student learning. Include specific examples from your culminating week of instruction.

Introduction

It is not easy to choose what are the most important things I have learned in the Teacher Ready Program. My wife is a teacher as well. I have been discussing with her the content of the course and she thinks it covers a wide range of skills and abilities every teacher should learn. She even considers that there are some topics in the program that she would have liked to learn when she did her program. I think the program is really well structured and all of the lesson and modules are necessary. In any case, the three most important things, I consider, I have learned can be grouped into the following categories: classroom procedures and classroom management, how to unpack and scaffold …show more content…
I think one of the most important things I learned about classroom management, are the “procedures”. “Procedures” are different from “rules”. A “rule” is a statement about what to do, or not to do, in the classroom, while a “procedure” is a series of steps to be followed. Normally “rules” are for undesirable behaviors that have set consequences while procedures are expected classroom behaviors. Procedures need to be in place before learning can occur. If students don’t follow the procedure, we don’t need to discipline them, we just need to practice again and again. Since I started do implement consistently in my classes procedures, the misbehavior incidents decreased considerably. We need to communicate to our students what are we expecting from them and be consistent in apply
