If we consider syncretism within the arenas of philosophy and religion, we can see that the melding of earlier cultures has had a lasting effect, even today. As cultures recombine with one another, they often create a new blend of teaching and belief systems from the two different cultures. However, some western religious syncretism occurred in China during the mid-late 1800s, its hybrid form not only refashioned a new belief system but also coauthored a massive rebellion known as the Taiping rebellion. While Hung Hsiu-ch'üan and his cousin baptized themselves in a well and Hung Hsiu-ch'üan called himself the other son of God, they called upon (Hooker, 1996) gender equality and sobriety, absolutism in the government and hierarchy established and even in worship during the Opium wars and rebelled not only against the foreigners and the despots then arising in opposition to foreign extraterritoriality but also to the Manchu rulers they blamed for the burgeoning group of people in the poorest class. ...Cultural Enlightenments Activities (CHRYSLER MUSEUM) It was my first time visit the Chrysler Museum here in Norfolk, and it was one of the most wonderful experiences I have ever experienced. The reasons why is because that I learned so much about painting and sculptures that have never seen before. I think that the sculptures were more detailed and more presentable than the painting, but all the paintings were still good too. One of the first things that caught my eye when I first enter was a big man statue standing, and it was about 8 feet tall by an American artist named Gaston Lachaise and it was one of the biggest art craft in the museum that I saw. Another one was the best of the savior by Gianlorienzo Bermini and was made in Italy. The paintings were colorful, but some of the paintings in the museum that I didn’t like such as the zinc yellow by Franz Kline (American artist). It was white and yellow stroke but I thought that the style was poor. The portrait of Miles Sherbrook by American artist John Singleton Copley was the other painting. It shows Miles Sherbrook and his business and it looks reality to me. One of the arts that I really liked was the Wounded Indian, by Peter Stephenson. The Museum I chose to visit was the Philadelphia Museum of Art, I have always wanted to visit this particular museum and I hope that I will. On September 4th 2012 I visited the Online Museum of the Philadelphia Museum of Art After navigating through the site looking at different works of art and sculptures, I felt so lost in all that I saw it was as if I was transported back in time, I could visualize the painters at work, and it was as if I could feel their passion radiating from these canvases, the vibrant colors, the elaborate brush strokes and attention to minute details all brought across the message of these paintings I spent close to two hours looking at paintings dating from the Baroque period all the way into the modern age but the paintings that really caught my eyes were those from the 17th century. Of these the ones that made an impression on me were: 1. “Virgin and child with Angel” painted in 1642 by Simon Vouet in France. This portrays a virgin half sitting, half crouching with a cherubic infant on her hips while her focus was on the basket of fruits that she was eating from, oblivious of the angel to her right that was playing with the infant in her arms.
