What is your cultural identity?

There are many different things that describe culture and ethnicity isn't the only one. One source stated, “People from multiple ethnic backgrounds may identify as belonging to the same culture” (Trumbull and Pacheco 9). You don’t have to be all the same ethnicity to belong to the same culture, you could all be something different and still follow the same traditions. For one to truly get a gist of their culture they have to examine it closely in order to better understand it. To most people one of the most important elements of cultural identity is food, because if you realize it, many people haven't even heard of the things we eat in the American culture. To begin with, mostly everyone in every different culture doesn’t eat the same food. Like one source emphasizes, “Ethnic recipes throw me into the same sort of quandary as that proposed ‘interracial’ box on the census form” (Williams 13). To emphasize on what the quote says, cultural foods are pretty much mixed between other cultures. As explained before many things are shared in cultures and many things are unknown in cultures. One source explains, “She puts the bag of macaroons into her pocket and wipes her mouth” (Isben 12). This really shows that sometimes a male dominant culture the male controls what the female does and they deterrent them from the bad things they eat. One of the main reasons men did this is because they didn’t want to be exploited by their wives. If they wouldn’t be so strict about it then the women would turn adamant and do as they please. Some of the men of the culture don’t want the women seeming like they are amoral. Some cultures discourage some foods and they don’t want their people eating it. Like in the Muslim culture they don’t eat pork. For someone who is learning about their culture and wanting to find more out about it food is one of the first things they learn
