There is a great deal of uncertainty in act one which makes the audience feel disturbed and uncomfortable. The talk of the Cut, the role of the government and their society in general makes act one a lot more disturbing to watch than act two. Paul and John’s constant mention of the Cut could make the audience feel uncomfortable because of the fact they don’t actually know what it is. “…it’s a ritual, a custom, something we…” – John is referring to the Cut here and he is describing it as though it’s a traditional thing to have done in their society, the use of the word “custom” implies that the Cut is something that their society expects the majority of people to have, the fact that the audience don’t know why makes the thought of the Cut disturbing. ...I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at One Bistro. I have been going every Wednesday since the first week; I believe that makes a total of three times. I have only been able to go and volunteer on Wednesdays due to my work schedule. I get to One Bistro before they open, usually around ten o’clock. I haven’t had much interaction with the customers but I have had a chance to talk to some of the workers who volunteer for there meals. I have set tables, cleaned dishes, and cut and bagged bread. Normally when I first get there I help set tables. The dishes are normally done, except for on my first visit. After I’m finished with the tables I get the tedious task of cutting and bagging bread. This bread is not a nice soft, cuts like butter bread. It is very hard and crusty, like a brick. The first time I was asked cut the bread, I came away with a huge blister on my finger. As far as Service-Learning goes I enjoy it. It is a great way to get involved and get to know new people.
