In today’s society we need information systems in order to function locally, nationally, and especially globally. Businesses are investing a large amount of money into information systems and for good reason. According to the textbook, “In the United States, more than 21 million managers and 154 million workers in the labor force rely on information systems to conduct business (Laudon & Laudon, 2014, p.12).” I believe that the IT department should have responsibility for identifying and defining tasks for the successful introduction of IT systems. I believe in this due to the fact that the IT department is the brains behind the technology and they know what issues to address. Information technology is an investment, an investment to save the company money in the long run. With that being said, it takes professionals in the field of technology to make sure that goal is reached. Yes a manager is important to a company; however I never worked for a company where a manager of a particular company ran the company, as well as the IT department. These two need to be separated so everything can run smooth. In conclusion, information systems will be the future of companies. Millions of Americans rely on information systems and companies are investing a lot of time and money into this. The IT department needs to take control and be able to identify and define the success of introduction to IT systems.
