...The Infamous Cyberbullying in Cebuano Teenagers. A month ago, my cousin introduced me to a website known as the ‘’Ask.fm’ which allows the user to get asked and post questions from anonymous users online. She seemed to be very excited about it. But unlike her I wasn’t really interested about the site because I chose to stick my nose with Twitter and Facebook. A week after, one of her friends sent me a friend request in facebook and before hitting the accept button, I took a peek at his timeline first. What really caught my attention are the screen captured pictures that her friends posted along with the caption “ this is the anonymous person behind the bashes’’ tagged along were the other people whom I’m pretty sure that were also bashed by the same basher since their comments apparently told so.. But what triggered my curiosity the most is the picture of the traced account of the basher. It looked familiar until I realized that it was my cousin’s. Eventually, I found out that using her anonymous account in Ask.fm, she asked her friends offensive questions and bullied them. We all remember that when we were in elementary and high schools, teachers would have to stand on the play ground during break time and monitor the bullies, who would try to take another child’s lunch money, or to take a note being passed around in the classroom that would read something like “I will see you on the play ground after school.” We all passed through this kind of bulling. This kind of bulling used to be performed by physically bigger students and it was not also that much serious. However, over the past few years, with the improvement and tremendously changed of networking technology, the way of life and interaction among people has been altered completely in both...

...My social issue: Cyber bullying The social issue in Brevard that I am going to be talking about is cyberbulling. Cyberbullying is when a person, typically children 8-18, are harassed, threatened, humiliated, or targeted over the internet. This has become relatively common with the advances of technology. Cyberbullying probably commenced in the mid 90's when internet use became typical. Cyberbullying and face to face bullying are very contrastive. For instance when a cyberbully releases something slanderous into the world wide web, they have an audience possibly the whole world. In addition it is very difficult, if not impossible, to delete and completely remove anything from the internet. Another difference between a cyberbully and a face...

...I have never seen bullying while in school first hand, but I have heard about it happening in my middle school/high school. Bullying is a very real thing that does happen, more in situations where there are a more diverse group of students, but nevertheless, it happens everywhere. Now with facebook and social networking, a big problem of cyberbulling has risen which is becoming another major problem. I do agree that a good amount of bullying happens behind closed doors, because a lot of kids want to do it when no adults are around so that they don’t get caught. And now with cyberbulling, it is even harder for teachers and others to understand or figure out what is happening. But if a teacher does witness something wrong, or if a student comes to them for help, they should absolutely do something about it. And that goes not just for teachers, but all people whether it is parents, friends, etc. It is very common among teenagers to “bully” one another and the bully’s always say they are “joking around”. Regardless of if they are, they don’t understand the effects that it has on the victim, and it is teachers, parents, and bystanders job to convey the negative effects bullying can have on people. When people get older, they sometimes say “I wish I was nicer to…”, because they don’t fully understand the toll it takes on the victim until it happens to them or someone they know, or until they get older and understand more. I think we need to teach students about the fact that even...

... but now the victim can’t escape due to easy internet accessibility. Cyberbullying is leading to extreme levels of suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, and a feeling of loneliness. Online bullying gives opportunity for provocative remarks to be made, which can lead to extreme emotional responses from the victim. Kids as young as eleven have been targeted by bullies (Wilson). Often bullies will provoke their friends and peers to attack the victim. Big social media companies such as facebook, twitter, and instagram have taken actions to help aid in the fight against cyberbullying. Features such as report buttons and being able to flag comments are just a start to stopping the growing issue. Not only is the victim being affected by cyberbulling, but so are the family and friends. Bullying leads to drastically decreased involvement in social behavior, which leaves the family clueless to the things going on in their child’s life. Children are not fully developed at the age this commonly happens, and are not yet mature enough to completely comprehend the effects their words have on other people. Things such as threats, humiliation, degrading, stalking, harassment, indecent filming are all becoming illegal due to the increased use of the crimes online. Social media companies and police urge the victim to save all evidence, remove themselves from the situation by blocking the threat, and report the issue.
