The wellbeing and health of children and young people should be paramount within all settings. Children’s needs should be understood and easily identified by carers within the setting, and this can be done by building relationships with the child itself or with the parents. A child’s well-being can be influenced by many factors such as the amount of time they spend on technology equipment, healthy eating, physical activity as well as emotional attachments or relationships. Forming relationships is crucial for children and young people. They should form strong relationships and attachments to important people in their life such as parents, guardians or early years practitioners, as this will support them emotionally. It has been proven to have a link with attention difficulties, where children are unable to focus on activities for long periods of time and jump from task to task. As well as finding it difficult to focus attention, screen time can also affect their social interactions. Children who spend a lot of time using screens may find it more difficult in social interactions, making them feel lonely and separated from the community, lowering self-esteem and overall well-being.
