Who do you think the best coaches in the National Football League history are? I will give you an idea. One was around for the very first Super Bowl and had a trophy named after him. The other is a gentleman and, some say, good, old western guy. Any ideas yet? Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry are two of the best in the history of the NFL because of everything they accomplished as coaches. Lombardi and Landry know everything there is to know about the game of football. Lombardi has always been known for his dedication to coaching by friends and family. He was known for saying "It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up” (Vince Lombardi). I believe this shows his dedication because he knows it does not matter how hard you fall in life, as long as you pick yourself up and keep trying it is all worth it. When he was in high school, he studied to be a priest before transferring to St. Francis High School, where he became a star fullback. He received a scholarship to Fordham University in 1933. There he studied law but in his heart he always wanted to coach football. His first coaching job was at ST. Cecilla High School in 1939, where he coached basketball, football, and baseball; he had championship seasons with all of them. He later left there and became an assistant coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He told all of his teams: “winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing” (Norwood). This means, if you do not win, no one will remember who you are. He taught his players that winning is the only thing and losing is not an option. Tom Landry had a different past, but he also always wanted to coach all of his life. He always dreamed of becoming a Dallas Cowboy’s football player, ever since he was a boy. When Landry played football in high school, he learned everything about the game of football and became a great quarterback. In his first season of high school they were district champs. Landry enlisted in the Air Force in 1944 and flew 30 missions as a bomber pilot (WWII.) When he was released from the war in 1945, he went back to his college career, where he played for the University of Texas. Just four years later Landry played professional football with the New York Giants. He then started coaching after his professional career. On the official website of the Dallas Cowboys, Tom said, “studying a goal isn’t the main thing. It is decided on how you will achieve it and staying with that plan.” (Tom Landry). Tom told all of his teams he has coached even though you set a goal, you must see how far you are willing to take it. The training in his past shaped him into the man he became and into the coach who reached his players. Even though Lombardi and Landry are both coaches, they are very different types of coaches. They had many winning seasons, Lombardi’s only losing season was when he was an assistant coach for the Army. That was the year the Army players were caught cheating, and they had to start all freshmen on Varsity. In the book Vince Lombardi/Pele Lombardi says “Don’t expect miracles” (16). What he was saying there is that you cannot always have a championship team, even if that is what he is best known for. Tom’s three losing seasons were his first three years as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. In the book, The Dallas Cowboys the Ultimate guide to America’s team, Tex Schramm says about the Dallas Cowboys, “Some of the things we’re doing are frankly mystifying” (112). What I believe he is saying after having losing seasons, you can go nowhere but up.
Landry and Lombardi had their own unique way of coaching. Lombardi was known to pad up with his own players so they could get tougher. When he padded with his own players he put on shoulder pads and a helmet, while going head to head with them. He was also one of the first coaches to watch film of the other team. This method is still used today and is very common throughout the game of football. Landry was the first coach to use the power offense, and he used it better than any coach out there. The power offense is where you have a fullback as a lead blocker for the running back. These two coaches may have their differences, but they also had many similarities. Lombardi and Landry had both been to the Big Dance (The Super Bowl) in their coaching career, where all coaches dream to be one year. They were both inducted into the Hall of Fame, and are known for having winning seasons throughout the NFL. Lombardi and Landry also won championships of their own playing the game of “pigskin,” as some call it. In high school, Landry started as quarterback, where he took his team to win the District Championship all four years. In high school, Lombardi helped his team reach the championship with his position at fullback. It earned him a full scholarship to college. Lombardi and Landry also shared the same clothing style that they wore at their football games: a traditional suit and tie. Both men looked very sharp at each game. Also, both Lombardi and Landry punished their players when they stepped out of line. Lombardi wanted everyone home by curfew, or they would be fined $50. Landry told his players if they did not follow the rules, they would not play in the games. Lombardi and Landry stopped coaching in different ways. Landry was fired by the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, and it made the local newspapers for weeks. He was fired because his three previous seasons were losing seasons and Jones was looking for fresh talent. Lombardi decided to retire from the game of football and take some time to relax. After taking all that time off, he decided to go back to coaching and he coached for the Washington Redskins for one year before doctors diagnosed him with cancer. Lombardi and Landry both lived very long and happy lives but both, sadly, died of cancer. Lombardi was diagnosed with Intestinal cancer and died September 3, 1970. Landry was diagnosed with leukemia and died February 12, 2000. They both fought their best to survive the cancer. There were thousands of people that attended both of their funerals. There are many reasons why people think Lombardi and Landry are the greatest coaches of the game of football. They have accomplished every possible goal in their coaching career. They will be forever known in football for everything they have contributed to the game, some even say they are the best coaches that will ever live.

...Done by Georgy Volkov Topic: Dallas Cowboys Stadium In order to complete the task, I first write out the financial information: The team value - 851 000 000 $ Total Revenues in year 2002 – 198 000 000 $ The cost of construction of the new stadium - 650 000 000 $ Time to build the stadium - 2 years (2003 and 2005). Costs will be paid in two parts of 325 000 000 $ in year 2004 and year 2005 Rights of the name - 18 000 000 $ per year until year 2035. Stadium rent - 8% of the stadium revenue Private funds - 500 000 000 $, amortization is 15 years, interest rate is 10% They also took a loan from G-3 - 150 000 000 $, amortization is 15 years, interest rate is 7%. Inflation rate is 2,5 % The tax rate is 20 % (I took it so, because there was no information about the tax rate in the case and at that time NFL was tax-exempt. However, this exempt will end in 2015, according to WSJ - http://www.wsj.com/articles/nfl-to-end-tax-exempt-status-1430241845 ) Depreciation is 15 years at 43.33 000 000 $ per year The maintenance costs will be 7 000 000 $ per year In the conclusion I would like to say, that without the help of City of Arlington, the loan form G-3, it would practically impossible for Dallas Cowboys and its owner Jerri Jones to build the stadium. Even the Texas governor passed the bill for people to vote in order to decide, whether to raise the taxes or not to pay for a stadium complex for Dallas Cowboys. Also, I would like to add, that...

...sales and personal seat licensing, to numerous types of media coverage, to sports apparel, to performance effects, to even beverage endorsements, the valuation of a professional sports team is not a simple task. In 2010, the 32 teams in the NFL generated over $8 billion dollars in revenue and were valued at a collective $33 billion. Those staggering numbers are generated through a multitude of different econometric analysis and different approaches to valuing the net worth of a team. Cost-asset based approach, income approach, and market/sales comparisons are a few ways that analysts and investors can value a team. For purpose of specificity, I plan to focus on the novelty effects of the Dallas Cowboys new Cowboys Stadium on revenues and the overall value of their organization. (Dallas Cowboys are privately owned, thus public financial information is not available so other resources were used) Does a new stadium have a positive effect of an NFL team? Well, that question kind of seems vague and challenging to answer. Inevitably it would seem that players would want to play harder in a newer facility, thus improving the performance of their game, in turn spurring larger attendance rates which would generate more revenues. However, it is not as simple as that, as there is much to analyze in term of costs that would affect an owner to make such a decision. In regards to a specific method of valuation to analyze the question at hand, the Income Approach is the most efficient measurement...

Dallas Cowboys Team

...However, I find the Dallas Cowboys to a great example of a team. Especially the 1995 SuperBowl team. Jimmy Johnson and owner Jerry Jones loaded this team with talent that had been built. Although Jimmy Johnson wasn’t the head coach any longer, their Cowboys were still championship ready. They had stars like Emmitt Smith, Try Aikman, and Deion Sanders on the 1995 championship team. Although they started out with a major loss to San Francisco who were the new revival to the Cowboys, who beat them the year before in the NFC Championship game. The Cowboys seem to have lost their swagger that year, but with a team effort came back at the end of the season to regain their title. Larry Brown said called Troy Aikman their leader was a pure protection (America’s Game 1995,N.D 2016). However, this team fell apart after Jimmy Johnson left. On the other hand, they were able to become goal oriented again and followed their leader late in December after losing a few big time games and won the1995 Super Bowl against the Pittsburg Steelers...

Cowboys

...The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team in the Eastern Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They are based in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas. The team currently plays their home games at Texas Stadium in Irving, but they are scheduled to move to a new stadium in nearby Arlington in 2009.[1] The Cowboys joined the NFL as a 1960 expansion team.[2] The team's national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive games in front of sold out stadiums. The Cowboys' streak of 160 sold-out regular and post-season games began in 1990, and included 79 straight sellouts at their home, Texas Stadium, and 81 straight sell-outs on the road.[3] An article on Forbes Magazine's website, published September 13, 2007, lists the Cowboys as the most valuable sports team in the world, with an estimated value of approximately $1.5 billion, ahead of the Washington Redskins ($1.467 billion) and the New England Clint Murchison, Jr. and Bedford Wynne were awarded a National Football League (NFL) expansion franchise on January 28, 1960, located in Dallas, TX. At the annual meeting, they purchased the team for $600,000 (Bohls 1). They were given the status of a “swing team” meaning that they would play every other team in the league their first season of play. They were displaced in the Western Division Standings. Murchison’s and Wynne’s next moved was to high their front office personnel which were:...

... with seating capacity of 54,000, simply would not suffice. Forecasts showed increasing interest in the program and complaints by loyal fans and big-money athletic club boosters revealed the need for premium-class seating and luxury amenities not found in a 1950s-era stadium. But the choice of what to do was anything but clear to President Wisner. His vice president of development, Leslie Gardner, had presented three options: (1) expand the existing stadium to 75,000 seats, adding numerous luxury skyboxes and upgrading most of the yardline seats to include comfortable backings; (2) build a brand-new stadium three miles from campus on land, worth about $3 million, donated by a team booster; and (3) signing a 10-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys football team to rent their stadium, 28 miles away, for a fee of $200,000 per game. Each of these options had clear benefits—yet each had at least one very strong negative as well. Expanding the current facility carried a $12 million price tag, with an annual fixed cost of about $1 million and with a variable cost of about $1 per attendee. If the job were not completed in the nine-month off-period between seasons, the team would be left without a home field on which to play in 2004. This meant reneging on contract dates with powerhouse teams that were signed some 3 to 4 years earlier. Contract violations are not a matter taken lightly in the NCAA or the Big Eleven Football Conference. Page 3   Southwestern University’s Location Decision  ...

...annual league meeting in Miami Beach. The Cowboys were to play as a "swing" team, playing every other team one time during the first season, although listed in the Western Division standings. On September 24th the Cowboys host the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Cotton Bowl in their first official game. The Cowboys held the lead into the 4th Quarter but watched helpless as Quarterback Bobby Lane led the Steelers to a 35-24 come from behind win. The Cowboys would go to lose their first ten games before earning a tie with Giants in New York, in the next to last game of the season. The Cowboys would go on to lose their final game of the season to close out their inaugural season winless at 0-11-1. 1961: Now in the Eastern Division, the Cowboys started their second season at the Cotton Bowl on September 17th still seeking their first win in franchise history, playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thanks to Kicker Allan Green's 27-yard Field Goal, the Cowboys won 27-24 win, to start the season 1-0. Informative Speech On American Football

...Good Morning, my name is Nathan Hood. You have family members around you, a busy kitchen, everyone is eating chicken wings, pizza, popcorn, and beverages. If you have all these things in one place, you’re all having a super bowl party. Today I will inform on the rules of the american football as well as the history behind this sport, and the exciting and controversial game of super bowl. First I will discuss the rules that the american football has and I will also include the scoring system. Secondly I will talk about how american football has evolved from rugby and soccer. Lastly I will talk about the most talked about game, the super bowl and about how the people spend their time watching the game. The rules of the american football are very simple. According to american football there are two opposing teams, the offense and the defense. The offense stretches score points on the defense, while the defense tries to obtain position of the ball, and keeps the offense of the other team from scoring. There are four ways to score in a football game. The main scores of points the player will get is by scoring a touchdown. Another way to score is by kicking the ball between the goal post and the team will obtain one point. The field goal is another way to score, even though the player could not reach till the ending zone, it still has the opportunity to score between the goal post and they will give you the three points. The most uncommon way of scoring is by safety, this happens...
