In Dan Kindlon & Thompson's Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys (1999), the concept of lifelong mental abuse towards boys is brought to light. The most significant notion Kindlon & Thompson (1999) spoke of was the way parents and schools do not acknowledge the emotional needs of boys. Most adults stereotype boys, therefore unconsciously shaming and belittling them. This analysis of the early educational years for boys deeply resonates with me. Although I am not a boy myself, I have two brothers. I have an older brother, who, as a matter of fact, hates school and dropped out of college, and a younger brother who is going through the awful motions mentioned in this book currently.
