Chapter one
Daniel currier was one of the millions of soldiers that fought in the civil war he did not die but if it was in the name of freedom from the war and from the south he would have gladly. I am glad that I got to know this man even though he lived over 150 years ago.

Chapter two

Daniel Currier was born in Bradford, Vermont in the year 1819. (Vermont in the Civil War) His mother's name was Sara Currier and she was married to a blacksmith named Abel Currier. Sara took care of Daniel, their only child and maintained the house. (Census Bureau, 1850) Daniel grew up in a nice family. Before the war he was married and became a farmer. Inside was a change of socks, writing paper, stamps and envelopes, ink and pen, razor, toothbrush, comb and other personal items. (Learning NC) $20 is what he was paid per month for being a private. The state of Vermont paid each soldier $7 and the federal government paid them $13. (Coffin, Pg. 25) Daniel enlisted and became part of a company and served with his friends from home then 10 companies from across the state became a regiment. (Soldiers’ Lives During the Civil War) Daniel left Brattleboro, Vermont on October 24. There, they brigaded with other Vermont troops and moved to Ball’s cross-roads, VA and then went to Hunting Creek where they set up Camp Vermont. They stayed at camp for almost two months before they went to their first battle at Fairfax Courthouse on December 28, 1862. (Vermont in the Civil War)

Chapter four
Daniel Currier was in the battles of Fairfax Court House, VA and all 3 days of Gettysburg, PA. They did not achieve their goal at Fairfax Court House, but they delayed the attack on Richmond, Virginia so the Confederate soldiers to build up their numbers. Currier participated in the battle of Gettysburg where they lost the battle to General Robert E. Lee. He had been part of the union army and away for only 9 months. It must have been a joyful reunion with his wife. After the war he had two boys and they had one that was a laborer and the other helped around the house being only 15. Daniel currier died april 27, 1883.

...July 2nd, 1862, Daniel Currier and the 16th Vermont Infantry were under heavy fire at the Battle of Gettysburg. He was a farmer in Norwich, VT who enlisted to the Union Army in 1862. Gettysburg was one of the bloodiest battles in the war, but he survived so he was able to raise a family. According to the 1860 census, when Daniel was forty-two years old, he was a farmer in Norwich, VT and married to Lurena Waterman Currier, who was thirty-seven. He married Lurena on March 21, 1860. The value of his land was one thousand dollars, and the value of his personal estate was three hundred dollars. The population of Norwich at the time was approximately 1,759. Lots of economic development was happening. Norwich University was there, and that was where many soldier were trained (Howard Coffin) Logging was most likely one of the popular industries because of the proximity to the Connecticut River.
