HSF just held their annual alumni hall of fame at the Gala in New York City and one of the recent inductees was 52-year-old Daniel Laureano. Being selected first was not always the case for Mr. Laureano. When he was younger it took the inductee 3 tries to receive the HSF scholarship. The first time he was rejected, the second time he was revoked, and the third time he was awarded. From an underperforming student in high school he turned his life around to become an accomplished scholar. Mr. Laureano was inducted to the HSF hall of fame because of his upbringing, his representation in STEM, and his involvement in the community.
The growth of the candidate came from his family, hardships, and education. Growing up to humble beginnings in Dallas, TX from parents who migrated from Mexico to the U.S. However, the part of the city he grew up was not the friendliest environment. Inner and outer hardships affected a young Laureano in academics. During high school, he was an underachieving student with borderline grades. After graduating, he entered the military and used it as an aid in his life. The training gave him structure, maturity, time management, leadership, and mental strength.
