Growing up in the small town of Pearland, Texas, Daniel Escobar was the kid who teachers would harass for skateboarding in the school grounds after the last class would end. Pearland Junior High South was a place where no one really knew who they were just yet but Daniel always seemed to have it together. He quickly attained the title of that care free kid who had no respect for authority and played by his own rules. I did not know it from observing him after class but his persona was one of a future rock star. Those close to him call him Dany. Dany is a first generation Colombian American who learned to call Pearland his home. Pearland Texas is a town right outside of Houston known to occupy the upper middle class. Growing up if your clothes were not name brand, surviving would be made very difficult. Dany was a different case though. He was always the one to go down his own path and go his own direction even if it meant being alone.
Dany had been playing guitar sine he was thirteen and over time became a proficient musician, “I started playing because I really liked music and it got me through my day by day process.” Although they did not have a direct impact on Dany, some of his distant family members played music before him, “being Hispanic, all the…show more content… This is why the genre had such an impact on Dany. Although to me he seemed to be all right, taking his own path, in reality he was secretly fighting his depression which led him into isolation. Growing up it was hard for Dany to fit in with everyone else, “I think that part of this was due to the fact that I had to keep up with school work while also trying to learn a language.” Even after learning English Dany’s grammar still remained choppy. Dany strayed away from the crowd because that’s what became normal to him, “I didn’t try to make friends or anything because with being alone for so long you start to feel safe because no one can hurt
