...particular genres of film changes through time in tune with the prevailing human social mood. Human social mood is determined by the human herding instinct which is generated by the limbic system of the human brain and is an involuntary, unconscious, “hard-wired” human condition. In order to establish the correlation between highly successful movies and human social mood we require a quantitative measure of human social mood, this is provided by the “Wave Principle” which measures the wave behaviour of the major stockmarket indices. These indexes are a qualitative measure and ‘barometer” of social mood. We will discuss principally, highly successful movies, as these are believed to be most representative of the public mood since they reach the largest audience. Successful movies don’t just happen, but rather they result from having perfect empathy with the prevailing mood of the public en-masse. Highly successful movies, include groundbreaking movies which define a genre and we will look at the historical correlation of these with public mood. We will discuss numerous examples of how social mood has influenced the production of blockbuster movies over the past 70 years and how these movies have captured the public mood and imagination of the times. We will then discuss, in more detail, the manifestation of the ongoing severe “bear” market in equities since 2000 within the film industry. Specifically, we will look at the recent blockbuster ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008) and how This film differed...

...Sulfate and gum Arabic can produce an ink that can be substituted to commercial ink. In conducting the experiment, the researchers gathered nipa fruits, these were cut into small portions and weighed into 200 grams. The reduced fruits were soaked in a mixture of 100ml distilled water and 1 gram Ferrous Sulfate (FeSO4) as solvent, vinegar, and salt. Theset-up was boiled for one hour. After boiling the mixture was filtered to separate the black filtrate from undissolved particles. On a laser bond paper the ink produced was tested after being refilled to a pen and was compared to other synthetic commercial ink available in the market. The conductivity and transmittance time , drying time and luminance and adhesion were tested and compared. Results of the test showed that the experimental ink with a proportion of 200 grams nipa palm fruit husk, 100 ml distilled water, 1 gram ferrous sulfate and ½ tablespoon of salt and ½ tablespoon of vinegar produced an output with the highest conductivity and transmittance time, drying time and luminance and adhesion. With the cost of production much lower than that of a commercial ink and having no significant difference in the mean property to the commercial ink the Nipa Palm Fruit Husk Ink proved to be more economical to produce. Acknowledgement The researcher earnestly wishes to convey his heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation...

...Billie Holiday, was made famous with its dark meaning and the astounding performance that was brought forwards. With nothing more than a fine piano, a few brass instruments, and the haunting pain heard in Ms. Holiday’s voice, this piece of music was truly a gem of modernism. Billie Holiday did an amazing job with the simulation of pure distraught that was easily conveyed to me. The sense of sadness and lamentation is truly genuine and the tone can only be recreated by Lady Day herself. Historical context Holiday’s piece of music was released at the end of the American Great Depression, which resulted from a crash in the stock market, causing a deep depression in the economy for the following ten years to come. During this time, unemployment rates skyrocketed out of control and people began to lose their homes and most of their possessions. This period of time was a clear contrast to the previous decade and the wealth that came from the 1920s. However, this proved to not be a complete detriment to the arts. The music industry had almost arrived at a full collapse, but this era in American history helped pave the way for jazz and blues to become a new light in otherwise dark times (Ward, 2000). Black musicians were arguably some of the most influential people during this time, with men and women like Louie Armstrong, Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington, and of course, Billie Holiday herself. Artistic experimentation was encouraged during this time, and people had begun to use that to their...

...among males for brides lighter-skinned than themselves. Males were also more likely than females to state a preference for skin color in their prospective brides, and to use qualitative words like ‘beautiful’ and ‘lovely’ to describe their preferred match. Most significantly, the ‘success story’ wedding photos consistently had lighter-skinned brides than grooms. Darkskinned women were almost non-existent in these ‘success stories.’ This research points to a technology-abetted intensification of colorism. That is to say that the powerful profile ‘menu’ options and the visual imagery of predominantly lightskinned, ‘successful’ brides illustrated on current websites visually reinforce the invalidation of dark skinned women. ...stylistic exaggeration, and stubborn refusal of massification. Hebdige emphasised that the opposition by subcultures to conform to standard societal values has been slated as a negative trait, where in fact the misunderstood groups are only attempting to find their own identity and meaning. The divergence away from social normalcy has unsurprisingly proliferated new ideas and styles, and this can be distinctly observed through the existence of fashion diversity. Ethnicity, race, class and gender can be physical distinctions of subcultures. Furthermore, qualities which determine a subculture may be aesthetic, linguistic, sexual, political, religious, or a mixture of these factors. The expansion of youth styles from subcultures into the fashion market is a real network or infrastructure of new kinds of commercial and economic institutions. The creation of new and startling styles will be inextricably linked to a process of production and publicity inevitably leading to the diffusion and spread of the subversive subculture trends. For example, both mod and punk innovations have become incorporated into high and mainstream fashion after the initial low-key emergence of...

...Dietrich Mateschitz became aware of products called "tonic drinks", which enjoyed widespread popularity throughout the Far East. His idea to market these functional drinks outside Asia evolved whilst he sat at a bar at the Mandarin Hotel in Hong Kong. In 1984, Mateschitz founded Red Bull. He fine-tuned the product, developed a unique marketing concept and started selling Red Bull Energy Drink on the Austrian market in 1987. This was not only the launch of a completely new product, in fact it was the birth of a totally new product category. Meanwhile Red Bull is present in 164 countries. Since 1987, around 30 billion cans of Red Bull have been consumed, more than 4.6 billion in 2011. The responsibility for the success of the world's No. 1 energy drink is shared by the company's 8,294 employees around the world (compared to 7.758 in 2010). The Red Bull headquarters are based in Fuschl am See, not far from Salzburg, Austria. ...Babylon is a film from 1980, which was directed by Franco Rosso. Its about black youth growing up in Brixton, South London. To many it stood out because it reflected the very dark, depressing realisms of Britain at the end of the 1970s. Back then it wasn’t really received by the public, probably because it revealed the hard naked truth of Britain, but now it’s known to be one of the best British films ever made. Its about a young Rastafarian rapper who has hopes to rise above the trails of his daily life and succeed at a sound system completion. Around this time Margaret Thatcher becomes the new prime minister of 10 Downing Street. She was regarded as one of the most important prime ministers of the 20th century being credited for breaking ‘post war consensus’ in British politics. Thatcher re-invigorated capitalism, allowed for market forces to ‘let rip’. All of this, as well as increasing inequality between the rich and poor and also in some ways between the whites and the ethnic minorities. This is fully reflected in Babylon. A way in which social developments associated with Thatcher’s Britain that is reflecting in Babylon is police brutality. An example of this was when blue in the film gets chased b police for no reason and then beaten up. Then later accused of something he did and taken to court. Police brutality was prominent around this time, mainly due to the police’s racism. The black youth had had enough. At the end of the film blue stands his ground. This police...

RED and PURPLE pens seem more profitable than BLUE and BLACK but overall profitability is down. Jane Mendez was disappointed with the financial results. Jeffrey Donald, the manufacturing manager, said life was simpler when they just produced BLUE and BLACK pens. Difficulties started arising when they started RED pens. They needed to stop production, empty the vats, clean out all remnants of the previous color and start production of red ink. Direct labor cost is 300%, while a few years back it was only 200%.
