Darrin M. McMahon’s essay, “In Pursuit of Unhappiness”,was published in New York Times on December 29, 2005. His essay addresses the idea that we must be happy by starting with the famous phrase, “Happy New Year”. Human beings have a desire to be happy and are constantly searching for it. McMahon specifies that even with better living conditions than ever before, the level of enjoyment has not went up at all. The philosopher, John Stuart Mill, voices his opinion in the essay by saying, “Ask yourself whether you are happy, and you cease to be so” (785). He confirmed after winning the battle of depression. These were the people I was totally comfortable showing up for a seven am rehearsal, makeup free and in my pajamas. I would not overthink it at all. I never felt like I had to try too hard or be someone I am not. These people were much more than friends. They were my family. From mid-July to late November, I probably saw them more than my own family because of practice three to four times a week, a game on Friday and a competition on Saturday.
Coming to college, I was worried i would not have that close knit group of friends. I had always heard about Greek life, most of it not being good things. A few of my friends were going through recruitment and convinced me to do so. Even if was not crazy about, it would look good on my resumes in the future. So in the past week, I went through sorority recruitment. On the first night I was nervous and scared, but come bid day, I could not wait to meet my sisters.
