Business Analytics for Managers
Import Data from CSV into Framework Manager 1. Save all your tables or .csv file under one folder. In our case we will use the Test folder saved on blackboard with three .csv files named TestData_Agent.csv, TestData_Customer.csv, TestData_InsuranceCompany.csv. 2. Now , locate the correct ODBC exe at “C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe” 3. Once the ODBC Data Source Administrator is open, go to the “System DSN” tab and click “Add”.

4. Select “Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv)” if you want to import from csv files. 5. Unclick the “Use Current Directory”, and then click Select Directory to define the path of your data source. Give data source a name as well. Let’s use TestData in this case.
NOTE: All the files under the specified location will be selected by default.

6. Again press ok and close the dialogue.
Now we will import this Database/csv files into Cognos using Framework Manager. 7. Now Go to find Framework Manager. C:\Program Files (x86)\ibm\Cognos Express Clients\Framework Manager\IBM Cognos Express Framework Manager\bin

8. Right click on 'FM.exe', and then select 'Properties'. Click 'Compatibility' tab. Check "Run this program as an administrator' under 'Privilege Level'. 9. Open Framework Manager and create a new project and give it any name, in this case CSV_MiniProject. Then click OK.

10. Put the username: “Administrator” and password:”win7user”. 11. Select Language as English and hit ok. 12. Select Data Sources and hit Next on the data sources page. 13. On the new opened-up page, click New to import a data source.

14. Then click Next to proceed.

15. Specify the Name of the new data source, in our case “TestData” and then click Next. 16. Select ODBC as the type of data source and then click Next. 17. Enter the name you specified the data source in step 5 and, scroll down, select No Authentication required and test the connection.

18. Close the window after succeeded. Hit Finish and Select the datasource that you have just created-“TestData” and hit Next.

19. Select the Schema and tables you created in the above steps and click next. 20. Keep the Generate Relationships page as default and click import and then hit Finish.

21. Test the query objects in Framework Manager. Select any table, in this case “TestData_Customer.csv”. Right click and go to edit definition and go to Test tab. Click Test Sample in the right corner and examine the result.

22. Rename TestData_agent.csv, TestData_Customer.csv, TestData_InsuranceCompany.csv to Agent, Customer and Insurance Company respectively. 23. Under Data Sources Select the data source ‘TestData’ and go to the property pane window on the right hand side. Make sure Limited Local is selected for query Processing option. 24. Create Cardinalities/Relationship between query objects or tables from Framework Manger. To do this, Select TestData Namespace and click Diagram on the right hand side pane.

25. Select any two tables to start. In this case Select Insurance Company and Customer together by pressing ctrl+click and right click and got to CreateRelationships. 26. We will set up M:N relationship between Insurance Company and Customer and validate relationship and click ok. Make sure to connect InsCompanyID columns in both of the tables as this will specify the Primary Key- Foreign Key relationship Between InsuranceCompany and Customer. 27. Repeat Step 25 – 26 and set up M:N(1..n) relationship between Agent and Customer. As the following screenshot, make sure to connect AgentID columns in both of the tables this time.

28. Final Diagram will look like below. 29. Select the entire column under Agent, Customer and InsuranceCompany and change the data usage setting in the property windows as shown in the screenshot.

30. Now we will create couple of Measure Dimensions under Test Data Namespace.

31. Click Add to add a new measure in the prompt window. Write “Number Of Customers” under Name. Type “count()” and drag the CustomerID item into the parethese. Then click the blue triangle icon to validate the result and then click ok 32. 33. Click Add again and this time we will calculate monthly income. Write the expression as shown in the screenshot to calculate monthly income for customer. 34. Rename the newly create measure dimension to “Facts”

35. Now go to package folder and right click it and create a new package and name it as TestData. Publish the package and open it in business insight advanced to test it.

36. Open this package in Business Insight advanced and run it in crosstab. Here are the Results showing cross tab relationship among Insurance Company, agent and customers.
