...Dating and Mating In today’s society we are faced with a secular view of dating and mating. These views can be seen by turning on the television, or opening your email. Television shows like Jersey Shore, promote random sex, and multi partner relationships, while the internet is inundated with dating sites and pornography. The dating practices today focus on more of an intimate relationship than an emotional or spiritual bond between both parties. Sex today is more of a game, than a special moment between a man and his wife. The line is very blurred between biblical and secular dating and mating views, although it should be clear and distinct. The Lord guides us to keep the dating process pure by not mating till marriage. In the Hebrews 13:4 we are told that pre-marital sex is wrong, “Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery” (New Living Translation). As a born again believer I feel the only way God will bless the marriage is to avoid sex until marriage. As Christians we should put our love and obedience to Jesus ahead of their own desires. These common beliefs should be the foundation for love respect and self-sacrifice that a great relationship is based upon. Finding a partner in Christ is one of the hardest steps to overcome when starting the dating process. Juliet Klee states, “You need to be dating only someone who shares your level of commitment to your faith...

...Running head: The Dating and Mating Process 1 The Dating and Mating Process God’s View and the World’s View Donna L. Herrera The Dating and Mating Process 2 Abstract This paper will explore two different principles of dating and finding a mate. The first will be a biblical view of finding of dating and finding a mate. Two Biblical references are used to support my opinion on the dating and mating process, how we should use God’s word through scripture to define relationships and the way we should live our lives. The second will be a world view of dating and finding a mate. I use my own personal experience and years of working with teenagers as a youth pastor to help express my opinion on how I feel the world view defines dating and looking for a mate. I refer to David Elkind (1984) wherein he suggests that teenagers have had to become premature adults. As hard as this to believe I feel that this is still true today. This paper is based on my sincere heartfelt feeling on this subject. The Dating and Mating Process 3 The Dating and Mating Process God’s View and the World’s View The Bible really does not address dating as it is viewed in our world today. I have heard it argued the Bible speaks of “courting” in Proverbs 18:22 which states that, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.”(NKJV) The argument is the word find implies seeking or looking for a wife. I think...

...Dating and Mating: A Secular finding, with a Biblical perspective. The debate of the dating and mating issue has been a hot topic that’s been discussed for many Years. Questions as to what leads us to choose our mates? Where do our thoughts come from? And what is behind our decisions? The secular world has seen a rise and fall of marriages in the last 30 to 40 years. In 1970 the average of people married was at an astonishing 72 percent. While in 2005, we saw the percentage of people married drop to 59 percent. (Friedman, 2005) Why the decline? Have we changed so much in society where marriage or commitments don’t really matter. The answer is yes! It all stems from our society putting God in the back our lives, and doing whatever is pleasurable, and happy. Having a mate on the other hand, that you’re committed to takes time, energy, and patience. God tells us in Genesis the terms husband and wife. Gods plan wasn’t for us to have many relationships, or marriages. It was designed because of the nature we have. Joshua Harris, in his book, "I Kissed Dating Goodbye," describes his ideas on why he feels dating is overrated. He talks about his disenchantment with the contemporize Secular dating scene. He feels that if God has a mate for him, then God will deliver them together for His purpose. Secular views on dating and mating are simple: If it’s broke, then leave. While The Christian standpoint stands for the vow that it was based upon. I always...

...The dating and mating selection process as been looked at from two angles, the male and female approach to mate selection. Men are considered more physical beings and their initial reactions are initiated by physical attributes of the other sex. “Our natural yearnings are our genes’ way of reproducing themselves” (Psychology. pg. 147, Meyers). Men look for beautiful skin, curvy body, attributes we contribute to a great child bearing mate. From personal experience I believe this to be true, when I look at a woman that I find attractive, the hips, complexion and healthy appearance are vital parts to finding her attractive. The text explains these views as viewing woman as fertile mates. As I believe the hip factor for myself and other men, is a factor that plays out as a woman being able to carry a child and deliver a baby through the birth canal, compared to a woman with small hips, that ordinary I wouldn’t be attracted to. Women on the other hand chose mates on how they relate to the individual. Women look for attributes of the male being a good provider for their offspring along with being around to raise the kids. Of course women were compared to picking their mates wisely because of the factor they have to nurture one child at a time, where on the other hand a male can disseminate and spread his genes without adversely being effected. This statement could be true to some but these days of child support, I would have to believe that men and women are choosing...

...Dating and Mating: Secular View vs. Biblical View Brandon Gilford L22164457 Liberty University PSYC 101-D02 LUO Introduction How do you find your perfect match? How do you find your partner for life? And when you meet that someone, how do you know you've made the right choice? These are questions we all ask at some point in our life during the dating and mating process. There are many different views and answers to these questions, but in this paper I want to focus on the secular world views and the biblical views and how both views contradict each other. The Secular View on Dating and Mating Popular or mass culture (including advertising and self-help books) is the most obvious and direct influence on the attitudes associated with the pursuit of romantic relationships (Paul Hollander, Expert Advice on Dating and Mating, p.1) Romance today is now filtered through a media that says marriage is a joke, gay marriages are considered normal, and divorce is your way out. In seeking a mate the world tends to go to the internet dating sites, and social networks for direction. People are also swayed by what the media says is ideal to pursue through TV shows, movies, and talk shows. In today’s world love means sex, and if you’re not sexy then you can’t possibly find the love you are searching for. So the world puts all of there focus completely on things like age...

...Stephanie Hazelton Psyc 101 Pro. Lydia Tchividjian July 9, 2012 Being a Christian has made my dating and mating process experiences highly different. I had a hard time at first with dating as a Christian. I would go out on dates and completely cast guys out because of little things that they would do. I was being very self righteous in my opinion. So I decided to let my hair down a little, but when I did that I ended up losing my virginity to a man that was not meant to be my husband. I had to regroup myself and get my life back on the right track. Through much prayer and mentoring with a close friend, I got back to the place I needed to be. These are some of the main reason why there are some big differences with dating and mating as a Christian and as a worldly being. Dating and mating as a worldly being tells you that meeting someone that fits with you is a great thing. If you fall in love with that person it’s a great thing, and the best way to show that love for each other is by making love to that person. The pre caution that you should take is making sure you use protection. The world tells you that there is nothing wrong with these actions. I know better than that. In the bible it tells us that sex is suppose to be between a husband and his wife. Our bodies are supposed to be a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto Christ.(Holy Bible) Now how can we be a living sacrifice if with are just freely sleeping with any and everybody that we feel we are...

...use. Although many are Christians, we still do not follow very well they ways in which God wants us to choose a mate. God’s view on the subject remains the same. However, the secular world’s views change, sometimes very frequently. In a perfect world, in God’s views, we would select our mate by the proper means. Dating, in the bible, is commonly referred to as courtship. Courtship, by definition, is “the act, period, or art of seeking the love of someone with intent to marry” (www.thefreedictionary.com). You are to make sure you marry a believer or else you risk your how you could raise your children. Also, the wife must submit to her husband, just as the church submits to God, because the man is the head of the relationship. We are to love our spouse, but we are to love God above all others (Matthew 10:37). We must refrain from degrading our bodies with premarital sex and are to “save ourselves” for our husband/wife. Upon marrying, we are considered one and unbreakable in God’s eyes. However, we live in a far from perfect world, a world that involves adultery, jealousy, lying, etc., just to name a few. As imperfect as our world is, often our dating and mating rituals are just as poor. We far too often engage in moral wrongs, like premarital sex, and having children out of wedlock. We, as a society, are generally more concerned with what a person looks like and how much money they have, instead of what their values and morals are. When involved in a relationship, many are...

...Critical Thinking Portfolio Task Topic 1: Meaning of Life: Economics of Life Rebecca Marshall – 08099405 Online dating has increased in popularity over the last few years with the most recent RSVP Date of the Nation Report (2014) showing online dating as the second most preferred way to meet a new partner compared to the 2012 RSVP report which showed online dating as the fifth preferred option (Medianet, 2015). There are a number of benefits to online dating that may have contributed to its rising popularity. A network externality will occur as more and more people become familiar with and confident in using online dating platforms, expanding the pool of potential suitors. Specific group dating sites have also been created that provide a mechanism for assortative mating (homogamy) preferences whereby individuals are able to select potential partners based on similarities such as environment, education, socio economic status, aesthetics and a range of other categories, increasing the chances of finding a suitable partner while keeping search costs low. To further reduce search costs, signalling, such as sending an e-rose, can be used by individuals to narrow the pool of potential partners to those of particular interest, increasing the chances of acceptance by 20% (Lee & Niederle, 2014). However, online dating also has its negatives as information is shared in an environment where cheap talk can distort the information, such as appearance attributes, due it...

...Dating: God’s Way Against the World’s Tiffany R. Jones Liberty University Abstract The subject of dating according to the way of the Lord is isn’t something that is often approached. However, it is very important that Christians apply biblical principals when approaching dating relationships. It is unfortunate that even believers have dismissed the way that the Lord intended for us to establish relationships. As a result, there are an increased number of couples that have become comfortable with dating and choosing to avoid marriage. Whether it’s a dating relationship or a simple friendship, the God should be the foundation. By making sure that things are done the way that the Lord directed, there will be many more healthy relationships in the world. As important as the topic is, dating isn’t one that is discussed in churches today, at least not in the ones that I have been a part of. Many ministries deal with single people and married couples, but seemingly the stage in between goes untouched, leaving those in this stage to fend for themselves. Although dating isn’t mentioned in the bible per say, I believe that there is distinct difference in the way that the secular world presents the dating and mating process and how God directs us to select our mates. The bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:14 (New International Version), “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness...

...believe that there is the right kind of person and that would be the Christian person. While trying to find a reference on why we mate and date, I could not find a reference hat complete summed everything up in a good way. But according to an article from Wikipeda, We as people tend to date only to see if can be compatible or intimate in a long term relationship or as a husband or wife. In cultures there are different way to date or “rules” we could call them. Some cultures they skip the dating and go straight for marriage, while other cultures may replace dating with courtship, which is taking thing very slow and getting to know your partner in a very intimate way. I personally believe what the bible tell us when it says that we are not supposed to be unequally yoked. Meaning that we are not supposed to date anyone that is not on the spiritual level that you are on. I also believe that dating someone should not only be based on outward beauty but on what is on the inside. References 1.mating . (n.d.)....

...My Compare and contrast paper is about what the secular world presents about the dating and mating process and how the Lord directs us to date and mate. I will be speaking about several different areas of dating from a secular world and what the bible tells us about how to date and finding our mate from GOD aspect. I also will give my personal opinion on how I believe most people pick their mate. The world always paints a pretty picture of how marriage should be. The women finds her prince charging, he rescue’s her from danger, they ride away on a horse into the sun light they get married and live happily ever after. It might be the little rhyme kids use to sing, “Adam and Ashley sitting in a tree k i s s i n g. first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage. As the saying goes, finding a mate does not always go in that way, shape or form. Society says,” men feel most attracted to women whose waist are smaller than their hips which signifies her fertility” (perilloux et al., 2010) meaning she has a “coke bottle shape”. Woman should have perfect body, muscles, tall, deep trembling voice. They should dress nice, have a good job, live and drive the best. If you come across someone who doesn’t fit this appearance you have settled for less. Secular world presents that we should engage into intercourse with a mate to express our love into an even deeper matter. A survey was taken from 289,452 students entering college in the United states about...

...The topic of relationship styles has generated much debate about whether monogamy or non-monogamy are more suitable and beneficial for long-term relationships. Taken together, Conley, Ziegler, Moors, Matsick, and Valentine (2013) discussed the benefits and outcomes between monogamous and non-monogamous relationships, whereas Potârcă, Mills, and Neberich (2015) extended the same topic by targeting relationship preferences among gay and lesbian. People’s tendency of moving towards monogamy at the end of the life cycle can always be observed regardless of individual and cultural differences; however, I believe only truthful and ethical relationships may contribute to intimacy, emotional support, and healthy partnership. Many assume that our long-term...

...Finding Love Online Literature Review Sonja R. Cherry-Kelly WRTG 391 25 June 2013 In today’s fast pace world access to technology has made life a lot easier. America has come to rely on technology as a mainstay in their life through the use of gadgets such as the computer, smartphones and tablets to name a few. The ability to pay bills online, shop for clothing and food, communicate with family and friends through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have most people young and old taking the leap of faith onto the internet bandwagon. In fact, having access to such a vast array of information has open up a plethora of opportunities to include finding love online. While most people welcome this opportunity to find their true love using this alternative there are those who do not share their enthusiasm. Neil Postman the author of Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology believes that America has become too reliant on technology and as such has become a slave to it. He writes that the acceptance of technology as the master means that “a new kind of social order” is inevitable and will lead to “rapid dissolution of much that is associated with traditional beliefs (1992, pg. 71). “ Postman’s beliefs regarding America’s obsession with technology has not stifled people in their pursuit of romance; despite the risks involved such as scams, identity fraud and the stigmas that have been identified with this type of romance, people continue...

...The 1960s to the 1980s were known as the “Sexual Revolution.” This is where we see a drastic spike in the number of people engaging in premarital sex (usually with several partners). There wasn’t much of a difference in the dating world at this point, but we start to see the roots of the modern "Hookup" culture during this era. In 1960, the first oral contraceptive pill was marketed in the United States. This definitely contributed to the rise in premarital sexual encounters due to of its minimal risk of failure. Lyndon B. Johnson even endorsed the use of the birth control pill. There were a series of studies done by M. Zelnik and J.F. Kantner in which they followed cohorts of young women aged fifteen through nineteen, and surveyed them...
