...majority of people have some form of social media on their phones or computer. Online dating is becoming a big thing in society and it could possibly take the place of traditional face to face dating. While online dating does have some advantages traditional dating is still the better way to meet someone. Traditional dating is better than online dating because a lot of people have taken online dating sites and have used them to take advantage of others. When someone is online there is no way of telling whether or not the person on the other side of the screen is really who they say they are. There are a lot of people out in the world that lie while on dating sites, not...

...Felix Chevasco Professor: LoRe English 101 Date: 12/10/12 Traditional Courtship vs. Online Dating The Difference between Traditional courtship and Internet Dating When I was listening to my favorite talk show, Focus on the Family, they talked about the advantages of Internet dating. This allows the listeners, who got married prior the new millennium, to ponder the benefits of online dating, which were absent during their time of courtship. In traditional dating initial eye contact and study of the personality of the person is an important element in determining chemistry. However, what makes traditional dating best is the boundary and purpose that courtship provides. In contrast, online dating is more casual. In traditional dating, couples were introduced to each other by a friend and relative, or they met in a social activity such as their local church, school or family reunion. Nowadays, it is not necessary to meet people face to face in order to start a relationship. The internet changes our lives forever with chat rooms, social networks or online websites. More and more people are drawn to using the internet as a form of dating, with a high cost, and are unaware of the danger that you can face meeting with a stranger. Traditional dating is much better that online dating because traditional dating gives the couple the complement of courtship, commitment and purpose. Traditional dating is not only based in a feeling or a rush gut reaction. It gives the couple the opportunity...

This article employs psychological science to examine (a) whether online dating is fundamentally different from conventional offline dating and (b) whether online dating promotes better romantic outcomes than conventional offline dating. The answer to the first question (uniqueness) is yes, and the answer to the second question (superiority) is yes and no. To understand how online dating fundamentally differs from conventional offline dating and the circumstances under which online dating promotes better romantic outcomes than conventional offline dating, we consider the three major services online dating sites offer: access, communication, and matching. Access refers to users’ exposure to and opportunity to evaluate potential romantic...

...accepted the fact that in college, rape just happens. Since when and why has this turned so laissez-faire? It seems crazy to me that most colleges are well aware of the problem, yet do little to educate students on ways to protect themselves. Students in college are targeted more than others, so you would think that the people that run Grand Valley would make more of an effort to keep their student safe and educated. In the fall, there were four cases of sexual assault in a two-week span, so the students made a petition to get safety buttons placed on campus and off campus. The movement was presented to Grand Valley and they declined. After this I did learn that the security guards, absolute security, offered safe walks whenever, but they don’t advertise this. The only negative is that the people who need them the most are intoxicated and calling for a security officer, who could alert police, to walk you is not always a desire. Another reason why I am so passionate for this is that I’m pursuing a nursing degree, I have a strong desire and heart for helping others and keep them healthy and safe, so naturally I want to step in to help situations like this. That is why I am so passionate for making a difference in this and showing the importance of making a change and not just being complacent and accepting the fact that “things happen” in college and this is just one of them. I believe college students and people my age should be interested in this. They shouldn’t just think of themselves...

...The Effects of Teenage Relationships Different relationships affect teenagers in various ways. Friends impact teenagers almost the same amount as their parents. Teenagers go to their friends for help or to ask questions that they could not ask their parents about. Most of the time their friends give them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most cases they tell their friends how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a teenager to get a good education. Some start to fail in school because they are hanging out with their boyfriend or girlfriend instead of doing their work. Throughout adolescence, teenagers are positively and negatively impacted by several relationships such as friends, family, and love relationships. Friends have a big influence on teenagers because they can say and do many of things to teenagers who think they were friends. They also start rumors and take their friends girlfriend or boyfriend and have them cheat on their friend. Some go out to drink, smoke, or to do drugs just to have fun but some think of driving home and most teenagers do not even make it to their driveways. Some teenagers who are so depressed about their social problems even think about committing suicide. Most start to hurt others turn into “goth’s” by dressing in all black. Many of depressed people show how they feel by dressing differently...

My argument strives to show that water-borne infectious diseases can be prevented and controlled through proper management, supply, and provision of safe drinking water. I will acknowledge members of government and NGOs who have recognized the importance of alleviating water scarcity. However, I will illustrate why, despite that the action has been taken in various forms of projects, initiatives, and setting goals, many constraints against success remain in poverty ridden and socioeconomic insecure regions, such as Madagascar. Madagascar, a large island lying off the coast of southeastern Africa in...

...NewCorp Scenarios Legal Brief Many organizations in the United States of America do not have the budget for staff counsel within their company. NewCorp is a business that has found themselves in legal matters and is seeking an assessment on ways to handle these circumstances from a consultant in the organization before refering matters to an attorney and incur costs. This assignment reviews three scenarios involving NewCorp. We will examine liabilities the organization and complainant are subject to as well as any statutory or case laws relevant to support the findings. Legal Scenario One Legal scenario one explains that NewCorp relocated an employee named Pat to manage the real property division of the business. After 90 days of employment NewCorp determined that Pat was not an appropriate fit for the position and terminated him with 30 days of severance pay. Pat feels as though he was wronged because he was not given the opportunity to improve through a corrective action plan as promised upon hire. Because of this, Pat believes that NewCorp should not be able to discharge him at will and believed that this action was taking place because of statements made outside the workplace. NewCorp and Pat both have rights in this scenario. Fortunately for NewCorp they are located in Vermont that is considered an “at will” state. This means that an employer can terminate an employee for any reason at any time as long as it does not relate to a Title VII protected class that includes...

...employee too. Employment laws must be fully understood in order to identify when someone’s action will cause legal matters that will harm to the company. Legal Encounter 1: Pat vs. NewCorp The legal principals related to this encounter are, what does the policy hand book states, what is employment at will, and was Freedom of Speech violated. Pat would be the plaintiff because of wrongful discharge by NewCorp. NewCorp did not follow the employee policy hand book when terminating Pat as a manager. NewCorp will be the only defendant in this case because Pat’s manager is a representative of NewCorp. Terminating Pat without following the employee handbook was not the correct action that should have been taken. According to the employee policy handbook, Pat should have been written up and given a plan to correct his wrong actions as a manager. If Pat did not correct his wrong actions as a manager within a specific and reasonable amount of time, then NewCorp would have the rights to terminate Pat from his position as a manager. According to Moynihan, K, (2005)“Focuses on the ruling of the Vermont Supreme Court that a contract provision allowing an employer to terminate an at-will employee with or without cause does not insulate the employer from a claim based on the violation of public policy in LoPresti vs. Rutland Regional Health Services Inc. Allegation of primary care physician Leigh LoPresti that Rutland terminated his employment because he did not make referrals to the three...

...defined as physical or emotional abuse behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control another (Domestic Violence, 2009). Domestic violence is not just an issue that women have to worry about, as it affects all types of relationships – married couples, unmarried couples, heterosexuals, gay, lesbian, and even those who are just casually dating. Name calling, keeping a partner from contacting their family, sexual assault, stalking, and intimidation are just a few of many forms of domestic violence. Although both men and women can become victims, not more often than, it is women who suffer from this type of violence (Domestic Violence, 2009). Discussed within this paper will be the effects of domestic violence on society, motivations on altruistic behavior and how intervention, and prevention will affect society and individuals. History of Domestic Violence Domestic violence became a more prominent issue during the women’s rights movement of the 1970’s (Moser, 2007). Shortly after the first women’s shelter opened in 1974, hundreds of others opened across the United States offering women a safe place to stay with their children, and often offering services that attended to the emotional, financial, and vocational needs of women and their children (Moser, 2007). In the 1970’s and 1980’s when officer assistance was needed a home because of domestic violence, often a warning was given to the parties,...

...Why GMO’s are Beneficial Are genetically engineered/modified organisms dangerous, neutral, or beneficial to human health? Genetically Modified Organisms have been used for thousands of years, dating back to the times where farmers were using techniques such as grafting. Studies have shown that opposition to GMOs are on the rise. Despite the many negative connotations of altering the genetic material of a plant, it has been statistically proven that GMOs have not posed harm to human health (Digging for seeds of truth in GMO debate). Through the utilization of GMOs, humanity has the opportunity to benefit our health through creation of potential vaccines, ability to create a sustainable food source to end human hunger, and the ability to create more nutritious disease and pesticide-free foods. GMOs have been very helpful in creating vaccines for many diseases. For example, during the 1980s, humanity was blessed with the first genetically engineered vaccine to fight STDs. Benjamin Hall of University of Wisconsin and then-postdoctoral researcher Gustav Ammerer fused a gene-controlling antigen that fought HIV and Hepatitis into yeast cells. With this biotechnology, they were able to create one of the first vaccines to fight Sexually Transmitted Diseases (A Triumph of Biotechnology). This has proven highly important, because without the use of such technology, this life-changing vaccine would not have been created. In another case, INB Biotechnologies of Philadelphia created...

...Rosa Parks and the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott HIST102 American History since 1877 The civil rights movement in the United States was a struggle against the racial discrimination and segregation the African Americans faced prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Dating back nearly 100 years, when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, black people in the South had been fighting for equality from the moment they were freed from slavery. There were many events that contributed to the civil rights movement. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was established in 1909. Jackie Robinson broke the color lines of Major League Baseball in 1947. In 1954 Congress overturned the Plessy vs Ferguson ruling, determining that segregated schools naturally unequal. In 1963 more than 200,000 blacks and whites marched to the nation’s capital to protest racism and hear Martin Luther King Jr’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech. In 1964 the Civil Rights Act was passed, forbidding racial discrimination in schools, employment, hotels, public transportation, etc. Following the Civil Rights Act was the Voting Rights Act in 1965, which was instrumental in the expansion of black voters. There were many more events that helped shape the development of the civil rights movement and in the following information will discuss one in particular: The 1955 arrest of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott. Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913. She worked...

...Personality Overview PSY/405 Theories of Personality What is Personality? Personality is what makes people behave in a certain way, think a certain way, and feel a certain way. It basically sums up who we are as an individual. "Although no single definition is acceptable to all personality theorists, we can say that personality is a pattern of relatively permanent traits and unique characteristics that give both consistency and individuality to a person's behavior." (Feist and Feist, 2009, p. 4) There is so much more to personality than just emotions and thoughts; we also have theories of personality. First there is Erik Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development, and then there is Carl Jung’s Jungian Theory of Personality. There are so many personality theories that can describe a person’s personality, and they are all taken into effect to determine what one’s personality truly is. Assumptions The Jungian Theory describes the explanation and structure of the actual human psyche. Jung divided the human psyche into three parts and they are as follows; ego, personal unconscious, and the collective unconscious (Boeree, 1997, 2006). The Jungian Theory is one of the most complicated theories because it offers a lot of information, and some of the information that is provided is very hard to understand. Carl Jung described the human consciousness by its preference of general attitude, and that would be extraverted (E) and...

...Social Dysfunction created by Social Media April 14th, 2011 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Social Dysfunction created by Social Media Social media uses the Internet to communicate, which divides and catalogs individuals into specific groups: small communities, neighborhoods, personal and professional friends, and similar interests. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, make communicating and connecting with loved ones simpler, easier, and faster. With this convenience comes a lack of physical contact. Why take a risk to engage in a meaningful conversation when you can easily send a text or leave a voicemail? The excessive use of social networking has truly distorted the meaning of intimate human connectivity and changed our daily interactions. This has created the need for individuals to find a healthy balance between their online and offline worlds. What is Social Media? The term “social media” is used often in this day and age. We tend to use it everyday, it is a major factor in our lives, and yet, a clear definition of the term does not exist. What exactly is social media? Upon researching the definition, and there were many to choose from, I realized that social media can mean different things to different people. According to About.com, “Social media includes the various online technology tools that enable people to communicate easily via the internet to share information...
