The Artist, David Gerard, created a marvelous art piece called The Rest on Flight into Egypt. The painting was crafted in 1510. The artwork depicts a “holy family” that emerged from a forest on the way to Egypt. The mother is holding baby Jesus while the father/husband, Joseph, gathers food. (The actual portrait shows the mother breast feeding the child, however that is not school appropriate.) The art piece was also inspired by the bible verse (Matt. 2:13-14) This specific biblical verse explains how an angel was sent from god to Joseph. The angel explains how Joseph must help get the mother and child to Egypt because Herod is out to murder the child.
